This really needs a new thread guys. The issue with dennis was he wouldnt talk about anything else, and he couldnt understand any point of view other than his own. The issue here is this thread should be about bad advertisements for DJ business. /off topic

Do you think the price of 1200's will go up over the years?
overit replied to ruggs's topic in Turntables & Stylus
^exactly iconic sound modules are iconic and sound iconic. iconic technics is iconic but sounds like any other turntable. so i dont think the techincs will raise in price anyway near as much asTB303 etc. -
^fair point. I still rep his achievement... it did take a flash of genius to figure it out i guess... but I won't rep him personally. you know: like I appreciate Hitler got the trains to run on time. But i wont be leaving any flowers in his memory.

Bad News... Turns out since this old whale died that heaps of women have come forward saying he was a dirty pedo kiddy fiddler. He was investigated a few years ago when he was alive but no one testified. Now he is dead all those witnessess and heaps of others have come forward saying they were scared to say anything before because he was such a respected celebrity and charity worker. Worst still it appears the BBC, two hospitals where he volunteered, and a girls school where he "helped" all either covered shit up or turned a blind eye. There is huge investigation going on now involving nearly 200 different women, all of whom were children when stuff happened. So not such a great bloke after all. More like a dirty pedo whale. I wont be repping him no more

TB-303's are the worst. talking about $2500 for a unit that cost about $500 when it came out in 1982. I reckon these are a different thing though. The roland units have iconic sounds that still cant really be reproduced by digital means. Technics are iconic to look at but not really essential in a studio for the sound quality. -
^ haha, dont go there source. I posted a mixcloud link in mobile djs to try and explain why/how I mix it up at weddings... nek minut mixcloud shows me who has been listening. Guess who?

yer, i'm kinda counting on it. I have my 1210s earmarked as paying for a holiday on the day I retire LOL! They have been gigged a lot but always transported in flightcases. They have twice been fully (professionally) serviced which included replacing the damned audio cables which always get scrappy. They have never been modified with dumb lights or other ish. In fact they are as solid and dependable now as when I bought them 16 years ago. They are now happily mothballed in my studio where they get used maybe once/twice a season. I don't think they will appreciate value anytime soon. But give it 20/30 years and who knows what kind of old skool revivalists will be about looking to relive the past. plus of course: the rarer they are the more they are worth. -
Not really my bag due to the drum pads being in the way of the platters. I have noticed they have included XLR outputs which is a major improvement on the DDJ T1 RCA only and puts this up there with the DDJ S1 and NS6/7. I guess the biggest thing to test will be the software and how serato have addressed platter sensitivity for the first time without using timecode. They did well with ITCH so I'm not worried. Also will be interesting to see how velocity sensitive those pads are compared to the akai pads everyone tries to copy. anyway... yesterday I settled a sponsorship deal for my djschool with a local music shop so I should be first in line to have a bash when they get one, which makes you lot 2nd to know if no one else gets there 1st

^LOL Kris. Now... back to topic.

That will remain entirely up to the individual DJs. In the EDM "club culture" scene sure, the pioneer media machine has pretty much got it sown up. But i know heaps of DJs who want to take their own mixer because they like the scratchfader or effects. I know heaps of others who like to take an extra deck, an fx unit, a sampler, a DVS etc etc. If the club has a built in booth with "industry standard" equipment and it is impossible to move it all out of the way the DJ sets up somewhere else (eg on stage). DJs are performers and so just like live bands many will not even consider what is "industry standard" as they will only use what they have rehearsed on. But regarding build quality of controllers compared to CDJS and mixers: The pots, buttons and faders on my NS6 are easily equivalent to my CDJS, I wouldnt have bought it otherwise. The sound quality is also equivalent. The keylock leaves a little to be desired but that is a software not a hardware issue. Regarding general build quality of the unit as a whole: consider this: a cdj is a user interface of buttons, platters and pots. It is also a motor to spin a disc, a laser to read the disc, a processor to convert the disc signal into audio. a controller reads exactly the same data from a laptop hardrive, needs no motor, laser or processor. So can afford to be built less heavy and sturdy: it has heaps less to protect. Both are simply units to control digital files. It is no surprise one "feels" better built than the other. It has to be to protect all the crap it needs. Just because controllers feel lighter/less sturdy doesnt mean they dont have the staying power of cdjs, the top end units have equivalent sound quality and user interfaces as top end CDJs and mixers, they just have heaps less components and moving parts to protect so can afford to be lighter and less solid. BTW; vinyl IMO is as different to both as electric guitar is to acoustic and I would never try and say different. But vinyl thru DVS: just another control medium. So IMO everyone can choose what suits them best. There can be no definitive decision as to what is "the best." Only subjective opinions based on what you are used to and what you want to use the unit for. Other users on this forum know I will wage war on this... not to protect controllers, as already said I use everything dependnig on the gig... but I will fight tooth and nail to ensure beginners reading these threads do not get misled by opinions which are dressed up as facts but are actually irrelevant.

i've never got excited about any equipment. I get excited about music, being creative with music, and playing to crowds. As already stated the equipment is simply the tool for the job. But "the general lower quality of controllers" WTF gremmis luv? As technology advances there are now as many top end well produced controllers as there are turntables, and easily as many cheap rubbish turntables available as there as cheap controllers. I guess you are judging this comment on the quality of 1210s, pdx 2000s and pioneer's flagship CDJs? Forgetting perhaps all the gemini, numark, skylab, citronic belt drive decks that try and capture the beginner DJ market? Shit product is shit product bro.

I did. benefits are: no more carrying vinyl or CD. search function on software instead of leafing through vinyl/cd collection make sit easier to find tracks. Ability to sort a playlist on the fly so next required song is instantly available and ability to alter/have multiple tested playlists on hand. is more lightweight. Has less set up time. I get four decks on my NS6 for the price of 1 CDJ or 2 technics. Platters not that different to CDJs for scratching/sensitivity No chance of skipping due to wobbly tables (on vinyl) or due to battered CDs reduced cost of purchasing vinyl/burning CD when broken. ability to record internally, drag recording str8 into digital deck and add overdubs to jam ideas. Because I bought a mac to run my controller I also now have a mac. Cost of mac plus controller was less than 2 CDJs not including mixer. Downside: sound quality is not as good as vinyl. (but is easily equal to CDJ) doesnt have the +rep I get if I turn up with vinyl Platters not as responsive as vinyl. Occasional chance of a crash ( I've been gigging a year and a half with my NS6 and havent had one crash yet, plus my controller works as a standalone mixer so if the worst case-scenario happened I can plug iphone thru an aux in while I reboot, this was tested once when i had plug pulled by accident, worked fine.) SO for me for certain gigs the NS6 has far more pros than cons. If a pair of CDJ 900 or 2000S are in a club I take a USB stick (i also use rekord box) If I'm at home or doing an old skool set I take vinyl or Traktor scratch and use vinyl control. if a club only has cdj 1000s or 800s or has a crappy mixer I take my NS6 anyway. You just choose the tool that suits you for the job. you need to do.

It's certainly been a sweet life so far BTW Lurk6r: I never knew you did latin classes too, I've done a lot of gigs which follow on from such nights and most of the dancers and teachers from the latin lessons stay on after for more... great crowd to play with and it sounds like you are building a good thing the way you are approaching this coco jambo of yours +rep.
