function is function mate. Unless this firm is different to all other corporate functions the crowd will be a cross section of ages, incomes, attitudes and tastes from the executive director to the girls from the typing pool etc. Do the meeting with the boss before you decide anything. Be prepared to act confident whatever he says then do your research. Personally I reckon he'll say top 40, chart and "a bit of everything good." In my experience the best you can normally expect from a corporate is to please most of the people most of the time, using classics, cheese and anthems...most people won't be happy if they don't know the songs... then once the crowd has thinned later on you may be able to work out a type of music they kind of agree on and actually get some mixing in there.

overit is a bit overwhelmed over here... cheers for the rep and I'll do my best lads, but that webinar idea... that is spinning me out. Sounds like a great idea, and something I could deliver. But I will need help sorting the IT side, and ensuring I get paid etc. Not that you few would have to pay, you can be guinea pigs if that's cool? Anyway before any of that the school is getting there: we wanted to wire in a few extra plugs sockets but while we were up in the attic laying the cables we realised the whole ceiling was unsafe so have had to step back a little, rebuild, re-decorate and ish. such is life. It's all good

would start like this, apologies is just text, but just to get started: 1)Do you want to be a turntablist (i.e. scratching and juggling) Yes = you need turntables but can still use DVS. No = go to 2 2) Do you want the organic sound of vinyl? Yes = you need real vinyl on real turntables No = go to 3 3) Do you want to play venues? Yes = you prob want to use pioneer CDJs so you are familiar with what most venues have No = go to 4 4) Have you considered a controller? Yes = start flame war No = start flame war agreed: tricky flowchart is tricky flowchart

shit man, i dont have time to listen now, but need to post so I get notifications to remind me to tune in when I can. Nowt like seeing an old master on their homeground buddy
-
ah wkd man, i'm stoked you like, thanks so much for listening and commenting P.S. that gangstarr track is a remix, I love the rap but the original tracks prod wouldn't stand up next to those other new prod tracks. I really need to expand my own accappela collection innit. BTW: Did you notice where I pressed the play/pause button on the wrong deck half way through a song lol! Ruff as it comes mate
-
ah mate, they may not be beats for you bro. No juggling involved on this one, just some new tracks mixed up. Couldnt think of a better name for it than sum beats. But you never know, you may like, let me know.

+rep source. Nek minut: "which setup should a beginner choose" flowchart please.

sorry, please ignore my comments above. I dunno why (derp/stoned) but I read your OP and honestly thought you were wanting to be a true turntablist, u kno, with scratching and juggles and stuff. Those are the only DJs who really need vinyl control wether it is DVS or just wax. The guys who use vinyl only (without DVS) but play dance are doing it mainly for the sound quality. If you go that route the mixer and sound system you play through are as important as the choice of piece of vinyl. You will never get that sound from DVS or any digital system. I re-read this morn and realised you want to be an EDM DJ. In which case I agree with the majority of posts above: buy a controller to get you started, it's cheapest, most verstaile, and should keep some resale value while you see if you really like playing the game. Just chk your laptop can handle the minimum tech spec for the software your controller comes with.

In the past I have tried to redo mixes after an original jam session to polish them up... thing is I can't get the time for the practise, and without a crowd playing songs in the same order a 2nd time feels boring. From now on mixes get posted as they got done: off the cuff and ruff, just the way they sounded 1st time the record button was pressed.

I am not a turnbtalist either. But it was turntablism that got me on the path of wanting to use decks. I used 1210's for decades and still do to mess about... But for gigs I am now using a controller. This is mainly because I have let my turntablist side slip. There are controllers which do a reasonable job of emulating the sound of vinyl. I use a Numark NS6. I still use it to do basic scratches and transforms plus the odd simple juggle. Only a few controllers actually have motorised platters, which are essential for the real feel of turntablism. If the platter doesnt give back to you with that sensation of torque you are just wiggling a platter, not working with it. Check out: http://www.numark.com/product/ns7. and denon do a few that play CDs and act as controllers. Neither of these setups are cheap. Serato is the best of the DVS systems by far. Traktor is great for timecode but doesn't quite carry the weight of serato for turntablism. The Rane mixers with serato are outstanding units for scratching. But both these systems are still playing digital files, so you won't get the 100% vinyl turntablist sound, even though it will "feel" exactly the same. That said serato is accepted at DMC world championships which has stood as the last bastion of turntablism for years. One thing to keep in mind is to check that your laptop will reliably run the software that any controller or DVS comes with. If I were to start a practise routine dedicated to turntablism again, which by the way I wish I had time for, I would be happy with Serato on 1210s with my DJM909. I wouldn't attempt it on a controller but I wouldnt force myself to use just wax either. So my 2c - I guess I'm saying stick to yer guns, get the techs and serato, be a proper turntablist, best of all worlds

Haha, glad you can hear it. The idea was ok but the prod was shit. I'll try do a real yorkshire voice one for you but next time i'm in chat remind me, I'll be in the right frame of mind about then.

Anyone claiming to be in a country other than yours (eg because they work on oil rigs, in the military, on fishing boats etc) and who will need a third party to arrange delivery is nearly always bent. Most people trying to rush you into a quick sale are normally sus. If they advise you that they will send you a link to use third party software such as paypal or google checkout this should set alarm bells ringing. It will not be the real google or paypal but a fake site only available via the link they send. ^These scams are not country-specific. All the money ends up in Dolans pockets.

I know exactly what you mean mate. I used to get a pal to sneak in and press record when I was flowing, otherwise it may as well have been a trainwreck button not a record button. Now I just dont give a shit, my mixes are ropey but I know they work on dancefloors, i get paid, I get overit lol! but i meant this q: You'll get more knowledge posting that somewhere else mate

ez, soz i never said hi b4. I'm 38, I earn my living djing but to make it work I do pretty much any gigs for money so mobile and teaching as well as the odd one I actually enjoy. Also 2 kids etc but live in UK. What i'm saying is you aren't alone amongst all these young uns. I would post that mix and the questions about it in a new thread in the mixes sections. Or: even though it sounds odd maybe it would be worth posting it in beginners? I know you are no noob but you may get more replies/helpers if you post in beginners. And I guess beginning again is kinda like a beginning.

I didnt realise you were trying to help. ...You repeated exactly what I said in the OP was the problem I had already noticed. This made me think you were doing another Solmmis troll. SO, back on topic pls.... Does anyone have any accapella/other ideas to help inspire me to finish the above mash up?
