Webinars, what are they and how do I set one up?
overit replied to overit's topic in DJ Headquarters
okely dokely auserinos. I've set up a google+ account and downloaded an app which helps google stream my webcam and audio. If any of you are still willing to be my guinea pigs and if joining google+ and downloading the app isn't too much to ask you then: Please send me a PM with your email. I guess it's best if it is a gmail account already set up on google+ as this will save steps later on. Then I'll try and arrange a date/time when we can sit at our decks and see if this ish works. I'm guessing the first few goes at this will be mostly verifying audio quality, streaming quality etc so thanks in advance for anyone willing to help me work this out. We'll get to some mixing as soon as we can. Currently sat looking at my own lonely face in lonely chatroom.jpg -
yer, so have you took any of mine? I need to clear the dropbox space so grab 'em if you want them mate. also let me know if you want that latest "sum beats" trainwreck i did.

USB on small screen makes it very hard to browse for songs in large playlists. CDs = lots of burning. Try both.

'kin brilliant. cheers all research on. -
bang on source. I know you know so just for the record: "riding the pitch" is the old skool technique of beat-matching without nudging to avoid any wobbly increases in pitch. Vinyl only users may need to learn this. these days with digital keylock on dvs and cdjs this technique is a lot easier. You can nudge the platter and change tempo with the pitch quite dramatically. It will not be audible as an increase in the pitch of the music.

...wasnt sure if this should be in DIY or HELP boards but opted for this one. Moderators please move if you're bovverred. I am wondering what would be involved in setting up and running webinars? 1st things first: This is how I want a webinar to work: Subscribers would be able to see and hear me and my decks from anywhere in the world. This way I could demonstrate techniques and discuss queries. I and all subscribers would be able to hear all subscribers and hold group discussions. I would be able to see any subscribers (or at least their hands on their decks if they were shy) and let all other subscribers see them too so we could watch and discuss their techniques on the decks. I guess it would be hard for everyone to see everyone all the time as more than 8 subscribers would take up too much screen space. I guess I would have to switch which subscriber is visible on screen at any one time. I guess some subscribers would only need audio not camera but they would not get as much from the sesssion if I couldnt see what they were doing. I guess after a testing period I would want to start charging subscribers (if they werent in the adjf circle of trust that is) 2nd things 2nd: I will have the opportunity to host these webinars from my purpose built teaching room when it is ready. In this room we have CCTV for child protection/security reasons. Could I hook into the cctv system to get various camera angles? So what I need to know: is there some software i need to do this? any hardware? Is it all easy for end users to operate? How would I make it secure if I wanted to charge people? is it stable and reliable for paying customers? and finally: is it a good idea, would any of you be interested? is it too much work? all input gladly appreciated.

+rep eggs I used to do this to phatten up a live recording of frank sinatra singing "let's take it nice and easy". Using a beat from a dj rectangle battle weapon. both bits of vinyl worn out now. Sometimes I would trainwreck so bad lol! but IMO it is so important to modern DJing to keep flying the flag for this type of instrumentalist approach to using turntables. If anyone wants to get started trying this technique try using your decks to beatmatch any basic quantised digital loop (i.e. a modern song) to a beatles or rolling stones original recording. Both bands' drummers are notoriously bad at keeping time when doing drum rolls or fills so you have to stay on your toes throughout. My toptips - cut some of the bass and nudge and bend the rock track, not the modern loop. Keep the drum loop from the quantised track most prominent in the mix. If you start nudging that phat modern Kick drum everyone will hear. If you nudge the scratchy old rock recording you will get away with more. Then come tell me you didnt feel the energy transfer through your speakers when you got it right.

I havent misunderstood anything. Your point of view is different is all. I would not approach anything willy nilly. I would approach the recording of a live take like a rehearsed musician who knows exactly what "feel" he is attempting to achieve after hours of practise and consideration. I may record it in several takes and edit these in the software. But I would not use ableton warp at all. I guess it is up to wrxfiend to try both techniques and see which suits his projects best. -
dude, vestax distribution has always been a joke over here too. But if it comes to it and uk prices are best then see if me buying it and shipping it for you works out cheaper than getting shipping added to a retail purchase. I'd be happy to buy and ship for you. obv i would need the money deposited in my nigerian bank account 1st

Accapellas over beats.....help required
overit replied to wrxfiend's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
sorry was in a rush earlier, pretty vague. I'll try and explain a bit more: with real hiphop and real raps knowing the digital BPM won't really help. The rapper achieves the flow by being lazy or quick and using analog timings to add energy and interest to his song. If you load an accapella into most software it will do it's best to quantize this and will thus remove all the feel. If instead you get into manipulating vinyl with drags and nudges to add your energy to the accappella, thus helping it fit over a different instrumental, you will get closer to the real feel. You may find you have to hold the whole vocal after one verse because the song structure of the instrumental won't match due to a break or whatever, you may find things fit really well. I know of producers who record their accapellas direct into software from vinyl decks so they can manipulate it by hand, thus avoiding the software doing any quantizing/warping and maintaining the original rappers flow as much as possible. in other words they do a live mix but instead of using two decks they have the instrumental in the software and record the acceppalla from the vinyl live to a new track in the software by actually mixing it in real time. Hope that explains it a bit more, would be much easier to demonstrate irl. -

it's all about feel mate. Knowing the tempo of the original tune will help but a rap is all about flow and your productions or mixes should be all about the flow you create. Practise using your decks to mix vocals over instrumentals so you can manipulate with your hands. When you get an idea as to which accapella and which tracks work well together you can transfer these to your prod. Feel it buddy. the old skool way. -
haha, and i totally forgot about it too. think i put it up while you were in france old bean. all's good.

Fireface are great but I have more ears-on experience with motu 828 and so they tick all my boxes. Durable, reliable, crisp. Sapphire is great for the money too.
