  1. tbh im going to go with chris on this one. at least try and hook up with a mate or other dj's in the area to have a practise on them before you play there, its honestly alot diffrent to vdj. so if your going into it with no hands on experience, id say no, but if you can get a fw practise sessions in somewhere and you get the skills down (just basic mixing so you dont trainwreck it) then go for it. no point jumping at your first chance, fucking up then ruining having a chance of ever playing there, you want your first impression to be good, if not they wont keep you and if people here of your fuckups i doubt other places will. Its best to be safe then sorry

  5. Side chain compression/Ducking in Logic Pro Ok bit of a Tutorial on how to use sidechain compression. the way i do it anyway. Im going to assume the reader is close to a complete beginer but knows a few basics.. Firstly your going to need to make your drums in ultrbeat. Ultrabeat is a drum machine(once it is open you will see a bunch of keys down the left hand side with a drum name coming off it. each key has its own drum hit) Making the drum beat To do this make a new intrument track, choose the ultrbeat (make sure you choose the multioutput version). then up the top there will be a little bar saying default, click on that for a drop down menu. at the bottom of this menu there will be 3 more options with arrorws for extra options, choose the top of the three, from memory it is called drum kits. from this new menu find and choose "drag and drop samples' this will reset ultrabeat. you will now see that the keys down the left hand side are all empty with no samples loaded, each key from the bottom up should be named as 'sample 1, sample 2 sample 3 sample 4 etc. double click on this text to rename. Now go to your library and find the drum samples of your chooseing, and drag and drop them onto their own key each (there should be a little sample box in the bottom left to drop your sample into, if done right the waveform should appear. you can assign a new drum sound fro every key. For me i ussualy use a kick drum for sample 1, a snare forsample 2, a second snare or rimshot for the 3rd sample, hats in the 4th 5th and 6, and 7th and 8th i use percs. Ok now next to each key name down the left hand side you should see 'Main' ok what were going to do know is assign each drum their own mixer channel(keep in mind you can only do this for 8 drums as there is only 8 single mixer tracks[from 17 to 24]). For sample 1, click on the text 'main' and a drop down menu shuold appear, choose the number 17. For sample 2 click on main and choose 18. and so on untill the first 8 samples have been assigned to a number 17 through to 24. Now go to the 'mixer' icon, find the ultrabeat channel, and down the bottom of the channel there should be a little + icon. click this and more channels will start appearing, keep clicking untill no more appear. you will see the first few channels named '1-3, 4-5, 6-8 and so on. the channels you want are the ones named '17, 18, ...24' now each drum track has their own channel. you can no go to the piano roll and enter paste in your beat. the piano keys you could see in Ultrabeat corespond with those in the piano roll, Sample 1 being C1 in the piano roll, then going upward from there. You know how your drum beat SIDECHAIN COMPRESSION Ok now we are ready to do some sidechain compression...Assuming you already have a bass synth loaded with a melody. Firstly go to your mixer, find channel 17(as this is the channel for your kick providing you did what i do and put a kick drum in for sample 1) go the 'sends' area of the channel, click on it for a new menu, choose 'bus' click on 'bus1' Ok a new channel should of appeard at the end of your mixer called bus1. click and hold on the 'input' over where it says 'bus1' untill a menu appears. and choose No Input. Ok now on the channel for your synth, your going to add a compressor to it. with this compressor, turn the ratio to about 5:1:1 or upwards. turn the attack and release down. and somewhere along the bottom there should be 2 box's 1 named 'peak'. make sure the peak box is ticked. Now in the top right hand corner of the compressor you will see the words 'sidechain' with a drop down menu, click on that and choose 'bus1' Lastely go back to your kicks channel in the mixer, Next to where it says 'bus1' there should be a small circle that would of appeards when you first added the bus. click on it and drag upward, you will see the circle start to fill up with colour, e.g acting as if you were turning the knob up. now when ever the kick is played over the synth there should be a sidechain effect. go back to the compressor and play around with the release/ratio/gain and threshold for the disired effect. hope this works for you guys, cause it took a fuck load to write up haha P.S ill re check it when i get home for mistakes, i wrote it all from memory at work.
  6. i have these, 1 ear no longer plays sound, it comes in every now and then, very frustrating
  7. shoutbox shoutbox shoutbox shoutbox shoutbox We need one. PC vs MAC

Bit of a late entry here. but meh. striaght away im giong to say im a mac man. But I like both. Pc because of its gaming Mac because for me i can use logic and logic FTW. on my PC i opened 4 versions of massive and it crashed my computer ( i had a reletively old HP) paid alot for anti virus protections and.....we got fuckloads of virus's anyway. but still, playing cod4 made up for that. the mac, i can open 10 instances of massive and still flow nicely. i dont need a mac for gaming.....i have a ps3 so that ruins the pc's vote for ite epic gaming skills. like said before, macs look so much cooler haha. although that HP is looking miiiighttttty fine if i mite say. there is no actually better computer, it comes down to personal preferance, what you actually want your computer for. For me i want to make music and play games. i have the ps3 for gaming, and i like logic which is a mac product. i have no need for a PC. this ios a debate that will never be won, because everyones needs from the computer vary i love lamp
  9. maybe you could knock up...some noise.....LUL.
  10. haha nice rhyme man
  11. my top 3. 1. 16bit - jump 2. Joker - tron 3. doctor p - sweet shop (old track, but ever time i hear it, it still makes me want to punch a old lady in the face or something)
  12. Well this is a some info for newbies and also a Question to other people. the main reason for this thread is for more epereienced dj's to shed some light on this topic to up and commers looking to get into clubs. partly because some new guys at candy's came on the 10:30 set and droped warp 1.7 straight away, after coming out of disco. they ended up getting kicked off. now mine isnt perfect, it could even be completely wrong, but its working for me and getting me teh gigs. What music to you play for certain timeslots? i havnt played all timeslots yet but i have an idea of what id play in each. 8:00-10:30 (disco, funky house) 10:30-1:00(jacking house, fidget bit of dutch) 1:00 - 3:00(dutch house/party music(e.g samir's theme and tracks alike) 3:00-4:30(intence dutch house, bit of dubstep. and heavy electro. 4:30 - 6:00( all of the above cramed into 1) haha out of those times ive done the opening set, closing set(about 50 times ) and the 3:00 till 4:30 set.
  13. go go gadget is probaly the only one of his tracks i still listen too, i recon its fukin sick haha!. when rusko was cool
  14. haha just realised how that could of came across really wrong. i mean suger that yall put in your tea, on your cereal. the type of suger that coke has 18 teaspoons of per serving. da good stuff
  15. he isnt crap, he just makes shit music, (could be completely wrong here but) hed be one of the most knowledgable producers in dubstep, dosent he have like numerous masters in audio engineering and bunch ofthat shit??. like he knows what he doing well, just puts his knowledge into shit things
  16. Burial users acid and he is pretty much the best producer in my books, every DAW does the same thing, bar warping (ableton woot), Im sure you can change the BPM of each individual track in acid, its a fair must have if your a sampler. i was loling at the fact i was saying they use the drug acid. i know a few people that use acid sucesfully, rusko(who i actualy dont like anymore) uses acid
  17. all this shit talk is making me want some shit
  18. Welcome mayne. youve found the right place to ask Q's and learn.
  19. im not to sure man ive never used acid in my life. could you try automating the master tempo if there is one? can you change it back to the original tempo after its been imported and sped to 140kbs. make a new track for it? ive no idea whats im talking about im just firing off ideas that may make sence to you acid users (lulz)
  20. try get some gigs at a diffrent club? is there any gigs you get where you can just blast out your favorite tunes. i absolutly hate playing tracks i dont like, weve almost been banned from playing in wollongong because we didnt play mainstream and some close friends of ours who are alot bigger then us actually were banned, they had to have a meeting with RDL(guys who run wollongong nightlife pretty much) to get permission to play at event my friends are putting on, think its all sweet now haha. when we get asked to play more mainstream, we dont, we stop playing full on bangers, and we will go a little more chilled, like drop some funky house or jacking house, which is fine with me, i fukin love hijack, he has been in my top 5 producers/dj's for the longest period of time, others come and go but he has been there from the start. im going to stop because im completely off topic and just rambling on at my own will haha.
  21. Edit: i bought them through lightsounds,.
  22. haha All sweet man, was just too big for my computer screen hah. Btw man. when buying cdj400's was the first version of this given out with them? i seem to remember getting a complimentary cd with my decks, if it was circut breaker, they were the first tracks i ever mixed haha
