Will probably be spending the day at Record Store, seeing as it's record store day, but might have to pop down at some point to have a dig.

It's up to you really, it's a very handy controller, but it's also a lot of money to fork out on something you might end up giving up on. But if you've got the spare cash and you see it as something you'd be into, go for it.

A Maschine?
-
Hardware is not essential these day, and most DAWs come with everything you need to start writing music, you just need to get in there and keep at it. The Maschine is basically a MIDI trigger that you use with the coupled software, you can smack out a drum pattern on it, or trigger samples, and a whole lot of other fun shite. But is isn't needed for production, it's just a personal preference thing. A synthesizer is an instrument made up of oscillators, filter and all sorts of fun doodads. Go into one of your DAWs and open one of the inbuilt instruments, and that is a virtual synthesizer, which does arguably the same thing as a hardware synth.

Vinyl talk: Do you rather EP's or LP's and why?

EPs, I tend to just buy albums digitally unless it's something special. -
ADJF user database: Facebook/Soundcloud/Myspace etc.

HAHAHAAHAHA, my legacy... fuck -
Shouldn't be a problem, it's only an issue when you're opening up in older versions.

Top 10 Most Common Production Issues for starting Producers
ChevChelios replied to street's topic in Music Production
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm not sure about that. I'm with you on that, I think compressors are relatively useless for most things in EDM, cause unless you're playing things in live from a keyboard or audio source, there isn't going to be any crazy spikes in dynamic range cause there is no human error when drawing MIDI shit out. Bus compression is a good thing though. -
Fairly ignorant post if you ask me. Firstly, have you been to a Dubstep night recently? Cause people dance like madmen, sure they're dancing like they're at a hardcore gig, but still dancing none the less. I find this statement ^ absolutely ridiculous, I've heard that song dropped at VOID events countless times, and people go off, and from my experience, people that go to the "old school" and "chill" Dubstep nights, dance longer and harder than the teeny boppers at all the new shit, sure they aren't punching holes in the roof and shirtless bro hugging, but thats not its about is it. The trance thing is personal preference, but progression is progression, and although it may create a few bastard childs, shutting it down is worse than letting it grow, if you don't like it, don't listen to it. Mid range bass is still bass mate, get a bass guitar and play up the fretboard, still sounds like a bass dunnit? Bass in EDM is just replicating the part played by a bass guitar in acoustic music. Lastly, you can't choose fans, and a whole bunch of drug infused headcases is better than one lonely skanker, your fans determine the success of the music, and "nu skool" fans like to spend dey money, and more power to the people taking advantage of that.

While human ears can't hear above 20kHz, cutting off at 20 affects the harmonics of the frequencies below it, usually dulling the overall mix, the reason cutting out lower frequencies doesn't matter in that regard is because those frequencies are already dull, all low cutting does is take out a lot of the power, which is usually wasted anyway cause people don't usually have speakers that can translate it anywho. As far as wasted energy on the high end, thats no real problem, chuck a spectrum analyser on your master and look at the high end, it will almost always be taking up nowhere near as much as around 100Hz, so cutting at 20kHz won't really do much for your headroom, and is really doing more harm than good.

Haven't had much experience with Fruity plugs, but I'm sure they should suffice for now cause most after market EQs and compressors are more or less gonna do the same thing, I still rock Live's in the box plugs and they do me fine, only thing I've bought is a Sugarbytes WOW filter. But if you have your heart set on somethin that looks fancy, check of FabFilter's plug ins, not too familiar with their compressor but the EQs are great. Don't really have any compressor recommendations other than Waves, cause I don't really use compression very much.
