  7. Saturday June 30th see’s the return of Huge Australian duo – THE ASTON SHUFFLE ! Undoubtedly the next wave of Australia's emerging electronic elite, The Aston Shuffle’s ascent to the top of the Australian dance music totem has been nothing short of startling. Only a few years ago the duo of Vance Musgrove and Mikah Freeman were the sole toast of the Australian capital, before their unmistakable blend of big dance floor vibes and aurally striking hooks landed them on the radar of eager listeners and tastemakers alike. Fast forward to 2011. The Aston Shuffle kick start your weekend in style with their weekly 'Friday Night Shuffle' on Triple J, they're the reigning No. 1 DJs after triumphing in Australia's biggest DJ poll; the inthemix50, they've released their debut long-player 'Seventeen Past Midnight' to critical acclaim (featuring what Rolling Stone call "the best dance single to come out of Australia in a decade", "Your Love"), and they've proudly debuted their live show; a sensory altering and visual-heavy production that has fast redefined the traditional role of the "DJ" in Australia as they step out from behind the decks and immerse themselves in the realm of live, heads-down and hands-in-the-air techno musicianship. So what comes next for Australia's latest emerging electronic threat? Their creeping radio smash "Start Again" is just the latest taste from an album with plenty more where that came from, two of their latest mixes have just been let out of the cage for both The Subs and Sneaky Sound System With wind in their sails and fire in their bellies, The Aston Shuffle are determined to prove they're just getting started. 12. The announcement that Sydney Bass Heads have been waiting for – Friday 29th June Chinese Laundry Bass Mafia bring you one of the most exciting DnB artists of the moment, TANTRUM DESIRE Tantrum Desire has been a name on everyones lips for a little while now, and they hit our shores for the first time this month for what promises to be one of the biggest sets of 2012 South East Londoners Jay Faleye and Devin Smith - AKA Tantrum Desire - met in 2004 at a small pirate radio station through the love of drum & bass music. In early 2008, with a fanbase that was growing through word of mouth, the duo was contacted by one of the biggest pioneers in the game – Simon ‘Bassline Smith', who seeing the variety of styles in their DnB penned an exclusive deal with Technique Recordings. Tantrum Desire’s debut 12” – ‘Xenomorph’ /‘Last stand’, which immediately pivked up by likes of Zane Lowe and played on BBC1. This established their trademark sound in the scene for big baseline synths and immense intros. Things started to get even more serious after the release of Tantrum Desire’s well known anthem of 2009 ‘Here they come’, which featured on the ‘10 Years of Technique’ celebration Album. The track straight away stood out from the crowd and was rotated by many major DJs in the scene, getting weekly plays and breaking into Top 10 Charts on mainstream radio stations such as BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and Kiss 100, they also hitting charts on Trackitdown, Beatport, Drum & Bass Arena and more. In 2010, Tantrum Desire released their first EP, ‘Runaway Bass’. The 4 track piece was purely a smasher for the dance floor environment, created in manipulated styles. ‘Chill’ – their first drumstep taster, featured one of dnb’s top vocalists ‘Youngman MC’. By mid 2011, Tantrum Desire released another 4 track EP on Technique 'Foreplay', which included the anthems 'Play Tonight' and 'Pay Your Own Way'. The package included catchy vocals, including voice of Jon Reline, one of Jay's good pals. Growing in popularity from the great success over the past year, Tantrum Desire are on roll and in high demands with requests flying in to remix the likes of LaidbackLuke, Ministry of sound, Matrix & Futurebound, Shimon, & more! Now established as a respected name in the drum & bass scene, Tantrum Desire always look to take things to the next level, always working to evolve that trademark sound. The progress has already begun in the fields of working projects that integrate house, electro and dubstep influences, whilst still maintaining the focus of drum & bass, to be reflected in an artist album in the not too distant future! 19. Chinese Laundry are proud to welcome back French wunderkind SURKIN!! Since playing his first ever show in Sydney at Chinese Laundry in 2007, we’ve seen Surkin rocket to mega stardom, and now returns to Chinese laundry as one of the most highly regarded producer/djs out of the French house fold. As a former four-to-the-floor hater (rap was all he cared for until 2003!), Surkin got into dance music through Detroit ghettotech, and thanks to P2P sharing in the community he started to dig deeper into club music, focusing on Miami Bass, Chicago ghetto-(and non) house music. Originally from the South of France, the now Paris-based Surkin dropped out of art school only a few years ago to pursue music, and he hasn’t looked back. Since then he has played everywhere, from small clubs and warehouses, to huge festivals (Fuji Rock, Good Vibrations, Primavera, Coachella – twice! - Stereosonic, SummerSonic...) across North America, Europe, UK, Australia and Japan. As a DJ, he’s known for his quicksilver, transistorical mixing style, layering hysterical vocal house, cubist tracky UK bass, French touch sounds and US ghetto cuts. He’s also a noted remixer (Boys Noize, Klaxons, Paul Johnson, Foals, Justice, The Juan Maclean...) and was asked in 2009 to reinterpret the score of one of his favorite games, Bionic Commando (Capcom). In 2011 when their label Institubes shut shop, Surkin joimned forces with Bobmo Para One to set up their own label, Marble, championing a sound combining a straight forward four-to-the-floor ethos with more disjointed, yet hyper proficient grooves. Apart from themselves – they form a trio called Marble Players who already did two critically acclaimed EPs, and High Powered Boys – they quickly signed upcoming producers Sam Tiba, Canblaster and Myd, from the Club Cheval crew. In October, Marble will release Surkin’s highly anticipated debut album, just called USA. It’s a stunning, exuberant record, working perfectly on dancefloors but also while driving the city or hanging in the streets. It’s a phantasmagorical, epic record, based on imaginary memories of eighties urban America, a world Surkin has only known through pop culture and other distorted perceptions. So it’s clearly not about paying servile homage to some lost and mourned era, and all about activating personal aural fantasies of a past that’s actually never happened. Surkin is basically doing extreme customizing of existing sounds, adding his euphoric touch to early house, NYC freestyle, Miami bass or YMO electropop. And the result is an exhilarating ride into a novelty-rammed soundscape. Full Line Up Surkin (Fra) Kraymer A-Tonez Cheap Lettus Whitecat Murray Lake Morgan Cassette Brothers Grimm DJ Eko Joe Barrs Doors Open 9pm Drink Specials between 9pm t0 11pm $5 Budweisers $5 Vodka & Mixers $5 Dirty Laundry shots
