  4. Friday 31st August Chinese Laundry Bass Mafia are proud to present an artist regarded by many as one of the finest electronic music producers of his generation, PHOTEK. A fixture on the UK jungle scene since the early nineties, Photek a.k.a. Rupert Parkes is best known for his role in developing the “intelligent” drum & bass genre. Over the course of his career as Photek, Parkes has developed a sound that is simultaneously individual, innovative and accessible, earning him much respect and popularity amongst critics and music fans alike. The strength of the sound finds foundation in Photek’s incredibly detailed drum programming, which is then augmented by his sophisticated sense for combining abstract sounds with jazz and classic techno influences. This will be a really special night in the cave with Photek promising to play a broad and diverse spectrum of bass music ranging from 110 - 170 bpm. Set Times Laundry 10:00 - Struz 11:30 - kyro & Bomber 01:00 - Vengeance 02:30 - Kombat Cave - Hosted by Symmetry 10:00 - Damien Osborne & Nick Robins ( Symmetry) 11:30 - Boot ( The Abyss ) 01:00 - PHOTEK (UK) 02:30 - Andrew Wowk http://www.facebook.com/PhotekMusic http://soundcloud.com/photek/ http://www.dj-kicks.com/photek-dj-kicks/ http://www.kmag.co.uk/editorial/feature ... w-0711.htm L.A. based and British born Photek enjoyed considerable success throughout the 1990s and into the new millennium with his own mutant breed of jungle and drum 'n' bass. Much of his early work (under a variety of aliases) proved to be big club favourites, but it wasn't until 1997 when he released his now-classic debut album 'Modus Operandi' that Photek truly arrived. Its style is the apex of his '90s sound science – atmospheric, but at the same time very cold and paranoid, consisting mostly of jazz-influenced, highly complex drum patterns and sequenced double bass lines, sometimes with minimalistic synth melodies on top. Three years after Modus Operandi, Photek delivered follow-up album "Solaris", which featured the legendary Robert Owens, and surprised many a listener with clear Chicago house and techno influences. Four years between releases and he switched styles again, with 2 killer EP’s and with an extensive touring schedule taking him from Glade to Glasto, a new Photek sound was introduced to the world, combining a rich past in jungle with his well-known love of ambient textures, his experience in cinematic soundtracks and a fresh enthusiasm for the current tempos that are lighting up the world’s most exciting clubs. His Avalanche EP explored dubstep with inspiration from the harsher, heavier side of the genre, with huge LFO basslines that snake and undulate slowly, ferociously bulldozing their way through, while ‘Aviator’ saw him venture into brooding, minimal dubstep, edged with grimey beats. Photek’s DJ-Kicks, released April of this year, has been hailed as one of the highlights of the series. He’s hit the road to support the release, including prime slots at the Movement and Together festivals, and we are thrilled to have secured the legendary producer for an exclusive Sydney show at Chinese Laundry . 8. Saturday August 25th can not come soon enough for us at Chinese Laundry August has been a bumper month with us hosting some of our best-loved acts of all time... and to finish off this huge month, for the last Saturday we’re going big, and bringing back the one & only Jody Wisternoff, launching his brand new artists album “Trail We Blaze” with another epic 4 hour set at in the Cave. Jody, who is also one half of Way Out West alongside Nick Warren, has been a regular visitor to the Cave over the last few years & is one of ours & definitely one of the crowd’s favourite acts, with a huge turnout every single time to see one of the nicest guys in the business do his thing. Think back to the reggae/hip-hop soundsystems sound of Smith & Mighty and Full Cycle’s drum & bass legacy, right through to today’s bass/house innovation from Julio Bashmore, Eats Everything et al. Born and bred in the city, Jody Wisternoff's 25-year musical journey has had connections to just about every aspect in one way or another. Back in 1986, a precocious Wisternoff managed to gatecrash the finals of the DMC Hip Hop Championships at just 13 years old; later releasing a hip-hop track on Smith N Mighty's XXXX label, gigging with the Jungle Brothers and getting interviewed by Tim Westwood. Three years later, he was controlling the 5,000-strong crowd as a DJ at the famous 90s rave Universe, before helping to pioneer the early UK rave sound as part of West Country breakbeat outfit Sub Love (with Full Cycle’s DJ Die, later a member of Roni Size’s Reprazent crew). By 1993, Wisternoff had hooked up with fellow Bristolian and superstar DJ Nick Warren to form Way Out West. In the years that followed, the duo pioneered a cinematic progressive breaks sound – scoring a top 15 hit with “The Gift” in 1996. They have since notched up four top 40 hits and headlined Glastobury’s dance arena. As remixers, the sought-after pair have touched up classics from Orbital, Inner City and Sasha. But while so many veterans lose their lust for musical discoveries, Wisternoff remains more inspired by new sounds than ever before. As anyone that listens to his monthly Intensified podcasts will know, the Bristolian's finger remains firmly on the pulse of all that is classy and cutting-edge in electronic music – be it the classic Detroit techno of Carl Craig, the warm electronic grooves of Maceo Plex or the leftfield house shapes of Julio Bashmore. Blending elements of house, nu disco, progressive, techno and bass, the upbeat “Trails We Blaze” condenses Jody’s personal journey through music into 12 diverse electronic grooves; referencing his classic and contemporary musical loves. Representing Jody’s modern take on Balearic grooves, tracks like the “How You Make Me Smile” (feat. Pete Josef) and the nu-disco influenced “Just One More” are both soulful and sophisticated; perfect for balmy summer nights. The album isn't without its darker shades, though. Harking back to his years lost in Bristol bass bins, the hypnotic techno groover “95” and the hip-hop indebted “Red Stripes” both reference Jody's love of vintage jungle, while revamps of the Pete Tong-endorsed “Starstrings’ and the Beatport number 1 “Cold Drink Hot Girl” update two of his most classic solo tracks. A journey that lives up to its title, “Trails We Blaze” is as clean as a mid summer sky, but still captures the complex beauty and deep textures of little fluffy clouds.

  10. Boss Bass is back baby - and this Friday 24th of August, we have a headlining name that is on the lips of everyone in the know worldwide …. Boy Kid Cloud!! A multi talented beatmaker whose dedication to the UK bass scene has seen him gain thousands of fans online, garner blog posts a plenty and booking requests from some of the best clubs and underground parties around the world - and it’s finally our turn here in Sydney ! Supported by your favourite Boss Bass residents you know this night is going to be big & Bassy Set Times for this Fridays massive Boss Bass Laundry 10:00 - Hydraulix 11:30 - Who Am I 12:30 - Victims 01:30 - BOY KID CLOUD (UK) 03:00 - Autoclaws Cave 11:30 - Bassriot 01:00 - Pop The Hatch 02:30 - Shudder X If you haven’t yet caught on to the talents of this 22 year old DJ/Producer from Leicester, read on, and then make sure you come to the club ready to have your head in the clouds (pun intended) and feet firmly on the dance floor, for what may be the Best Boss Bass all year!! A Prince fan from Leicester, Darryl Reid, who started out as a singer songwriter in radioheadesque band, the Furrowa, has embraced bass music as Boy Kid Cloud and become an exponent of extreme electronic. Having found a way to combine mayhem with melody, these days BKC is making dubstep heavy enough on the synth judders to merit the attention and support of Doctor P, Benga and Skream, but light enough to appeal to passing fans of left-leaning electropop. It's a little bit Madeon, a little bit Mohawke, but also a little bit Hot Chip and Metronomy, with the commercial veneer of synth music from the days of shoulder pads and asymmetrical haircuts, all topped off with fey-boy vocals high enough to make Green Gartside sound like Garth Brooks. Boy Kid Cloud has already caused quite a stir with huge releases on Danky Kids, Ultragore and Circus Records, hitting top ten Beatport charts and gaining massive international support from DJs around the globe along the way. In 2012 he was snapped up by Inspector Dubplate for an exclusive deal on his tastemaker Inspected Records label, home to the likes of Gemini & Koan Sound, so it seems the Sky’s the limit for this Boy. All this while, Kazu was travelling between Australia and Japan where he would play at the famous super club "Liquid Room" Tokyo. One of Holland's best underground Techno / House Labels " Touch " approached him to release his own material and has to date released 'Sound Media' 4 Tracks EP through Touche's sub label Jam 95'. He has done some remix work for his friends labels like (Blackcodes Experience, Madrid) Japanese Remixes, DP-6/City Lights(Elephanthaus, Chicago). Kazu owns original and unique mixing style, use Multi decks mixing to create original sounds and dynamic grooves in 90’s and early 2000, he has moved to digital mixing style since 2008, he thinks a new movements and the new way of the Dj/Live performance, he understand that there is endless possibilities in digital mixing style.

  18. Friday 10th August Chinese Laundry Bass Mafia will host a show the likes of which comes around maybe twice a decade – CONCORD DAWN! Undisputedly one of the biggest musical success stories from across the Tasman, and a much respected name in DnB worldwide, Concord Dawn’s Matt Harvey returns to Aus to play Chinese Laundry Friday 10th August. This album release show will be the first Sydney appearance time since 2008’s sold out Concord Dawn show. Concord Dawn promises Drum and Bass fans an exciting live show featuring brand new tracks off their latest release , AIR CHRYSALIS, which dropped June 21. Back to Concord Dawn’s best, the Air Chrysalis album a full length was made available for FREE DOWNLOAD to fans from http://www.concord-dawn.co.nz/ The New single ‘These Prison Walls’ features Thomas Oliver and follows the first two singles (that are also available for free download from the Concord Dawn website), ‘Electrocute’ and ‘Heartburn’. The video for ‘These Prison Walls’ made by award winning director Aleks Sakowski is available for viewing online also. It’s been two years since Concord Dawn’s critically acclaimed album The Enemy Within, and a year since The Race To Zero EP. Matt Harvey, based in Vienna, has continued to tour the world (most recently India) and decided that this time it would be fitting to make Air Chrysalis available exclusively online and for free, rather than creating a physical CD. Concord Dawn has come a long way since bursting onto the scene mid-1999 with a unique high-octane Drum and Bass sound. Starting out as a duo of Evan Short & Matt Harvey, Concord Dawn have been bNet and alt radio darlings nationwide, taken out numerous awards and established themselves with a strong national and international following. Air Chrysalis will be Concord Dawns’ 6th studio album to date. Releasing their distinctive sound on legendary labels including Hospital Recordings, Timeless, Renegade Hardware, Moving Shadow, DSCI4 and Commercial Suicide to huge support from International heavyweights such as Grooverider, Goldie, DJ Hype, Ed Rush, Dieselboy, Bad Company, Total Science, Digital, Klute, Marcus Intalex, Cause for Concern and many others who have been playing Concord Dawn tunes for the past few years. Concord Dawn have earned a fearsome reputation for their live performance, with extensive touring in Asia, America, Europe, Canada and Australia, and feature shows major dance festivals in New Zealand, including Big Day Out, Phat 05, the Gathering, Alpine Unity, Destination, Splore, X air, the X games and more. Before they ever fell in love with rave culture the duo were musicians and friends from school, formed a band at the young age of 11, started jamming every afternoon, playing tunes from Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones! The boys met up again at audio engineering school and Almost immediately they began working on their self titled debut album, which was so well received by the local audience and they began their first foray into the vinyl market with two 12 inch releases taken from the album. This was followed in quick succession by their second album Disturbance, which was both a refinement and an expansion of the energetic sound they were becoming known for, with a consolidated local fan base they began to attract interest from overseas. They set to work on album number 3, Uprising. The exceptional response to the album’s first tunes resulted in their first signings to UK based labels, and their first overseas gigs. The first single, Morning light was was a huge breakthrough tune for the pair, with both a success in the club and on commercial radio, debuting just short of the top 100 in the UK commercial charts. In November 2002, Morning Light featured on the Mixmag cover CD (alongside other Concord Dawn tunes Aurora and Take Me Away) mixed by John B Don’t Tell Me, with it’s energetic lyrics and gritty bassline, was noticeably different to anything the duo had ever done before . Due to it’s originality and dance floor popularity, it got snapped up for the March 2004 Mixmag cover CD, mixed by Grooverider & Fabio, and was one of 2 concord dawn tunes featured on the very successful DnB arena mix cd, by Andy C.Raining Blood, a heavy metal influenced tune, was the third single off the album, which showed the pair’s diverse knowledge in music of all forms. When the much anticipated album finally dropped in 2003, it achieved gold sales in just 3 months, which was unprecedented for a NZ DnB release! Following the release Concord Dawn returned to a hectic DJ schedule to the far flung corners of the world. In between touring, they found time to begin formulating the ideas for their next release Chaos By Design, the second album from their own imprint Uprising Recordings. Released in 06, Chaos by design incorporates their knowledge of the history of jungle, and maintains their reputation to push their own limits and explore new territory, and did not disappoint even the harshest of critics Concord Dawn have matured as artists, finding a harmonious blend between old and new.. Their success has created high expectations from punters worldwide, which has made them step their game up, as evidenced by 2012’s release of Air Chrysalis Links http://www.facebook.com/concorddawnNZ http://soundcloud.com/concord-dawn And you can check out a Fresh interview with Him on Pulse Radio http://www.inthemix.com.au/whatson/sydn ... ncord_Dawn Some timeless tunes from the man himself right here http://soundcloud.com/concord-dawn/conc ... o-2013-bbc Mention you are on " Scott's List " on the night , enter via the guestlist line and see the person with the iPad/ Guestlist and will be sorted - $15 before 11pm & $20 after
  19. The Chinese Laundry Crew are very excited to announce the return to the club of our all time favourite artists - HYBRID - This Saturday August 11th. To make this one even more special, this event is the exclusive Sydney performance on the Hybrid “Classics” tour, off the back of their new album of the same name - which means all the biggest & best classic Hybrid originals & remixes & with Hybrid playing a 4 hour set sound system set, that means for all those Hybrid fans out there (and we know there are a lot of you) this is going to be one of the not to be missed shows of 2012!! Trying to think of our all time favourite Hybrid tunes is enough to give you the biggest goose bumps … For an act as enduring and versatile as Hybrid, with a career that spans more than 13 years and four albums, it should come as little surprise to find that live performance comes in many shapes and sizes. While the full Hybrid Live show has rocked festival stages and concert halls worldwide, with a line-up ranging from the band’s core three members to a full philharmonic orchestra, the Hybrid Soundsystem takes things right back to their gritty roots – one man, at the beating heart of the dancefloor. But this is not just any DJ set. Already an accomplished DJ in his own right, with the Hybrid Soundsystem Chris Healings takes things one step beyond the turntables, bringing you a whole new way to experience the group’s trademark musical fusion. Whether it’s through brand new productions and remixes, re-edits of classic numbers or tracks taken from their record label Kill City, the Soundsystem show brings you the clubbier side of Hybrid in exactly the way it was always intended, but never before realised. With a remix résumé featuring the likes of UNKLE, Doves, Guy J, Elite Force, Losers and Radiohead, HSS productions combine energetic drums, sweeping orchestral manoeuvres and snarling, visceral bass to create a sound that’s at once epic and uplifting, yet with a dark, brooding undercurrent. Taking influences from across the dance music spectrum and twisting them into something resolutely fresh and unclassifiable, this is where the boundaries come down and the rulebook lies in tattered remains. Think you know Hybrid? Think again. This is the Hybrid Soundsystem. 23. Chinese Laundry Bass Mafia are excited to bring you have 2 of the most legendary and iconic figures in drum & bass, true pioneers of the genre, who have all been there right from the beginning, and are still smashing dancefloors all over the world to this day. Our recent DnB events have been some of the most memorable parties this year and the word on the street is this one is going to hit another home run! Fun fact - Kenny Ken is the step dad of recent Bass Mafia headliner Crissy Cris & even taught Crissy how to DJ & gave him his first set of turntables Kenny Ken: Kenny Ken is a household name in the world of Jungle/Drum and Bass and a true pioneer of the genre. He started playing music way back in 1989 and has seen the music change year after year.Kenny’s achievements in the music scene are too many to mention. Winning the Jungle Soundclash back in 94 is the one that a lot of people remember and still talk about to this day. He’s played for almost all the big Rave organizations over the years and still enjoys playing music to the masses. He was resident DJ with the Legendary AWOL and World Dance and is now resident with Raindance. He’s also in the studio a lot and runs two record labels. Mix and Blen recordings started back in 97 and Monitor recordings was re launched in 2008. Nowadays Kenny is still regarded as one of the most talented and exciting DJs in the game, still playing all over the world and spreading the Jungle vibe with the same energy and skill that made him the true legend that he is. MC Skibadee: Bearing the mantle of ‘the most innovative personality in Drum & Bass’, MC Skibadee has never been one to rest on his laurels; constantly pushing creative boundaries, his high-energy technique has safeguarded his dominance of the MC scene for over ten years, continually surging from strength to strength due to a consistent desire to incorporate fresh ideas in his work. His work on the mic began in 1994, once again indebted to the mighty Kool FM for early exposure thanks to a show co-hosted with DJ Wildchild. In 1999, he notched up the first of what would eventually number three Knowledge Magazine awards for Best MC; the years have also seen him pick up three Accelerated Culture awards, a breadth of achievement totally unparalleled in his field. Fast forwarding into the new millennium, three more awards found their way onto Skibadee’s mantelpiece including the Muzik 4 You Best MC, 1Xtra Best MC and South West Drum & Bass awards respectively, leaving the man with a total of nine top level honours by 2007. Ever aware of a self-imposed pressure to keep innovating, the impetus was there for fresh influence and so the ‘Uncontrolabelz’ (UNCZ) clique was born under Skiba’s careful stewardship. With members comprising DJ Ruffstuff alongside MC’s Fun, Harry Shotta and Skiba himself, the brand soared into the stratosphere and by 2008 their sound was ubiquitous on the scene, tearing up dances including Innovation, Slammin Vinyl, Breakin Science and more. This in turn gleaned further recognition with an unprecedented double award for Skibadee in the lyrical and hype MC categories at 2009's DNB Awards.
