  1. Thanks guys, A mate at work suggested a similar thing to overit, something about calibrating Traktor to the controller, so I'll give that ago. Otherwise I will just use the volume faders. If I can be bothered I might open it up and see if I can clean it out or something. Fortunately I tend to have a knack with electronics! Cheers, Alex
  2. Hi all! Well, I showed my face on here a few months back wanting to just get into DJ-ing for my own entertainment, but I haven't come back for a while. Reason being that I have been too busy being a festival rocking, club packing all star DJ! Actually the real reason for my lack of contribution can be attributed to my better half who said no to any purchases of more expensive hobby equipment. Anyway, to the point, I have found my first setup, a Newmark Omni Control DJ controller. From what I can gather it seems that this thing was pretty popular in about 06/07 but is no longer made. I picked it up at a Sunday flea market for $50, the bloke saying it might need a service as some of the knobs are a bit dicky, so I took the risk. Well, after heaps of issues with out of date drivers, crashing, a used up Traktor LE license amongst other things, I have plugged it into an old Windows XP computer and all is working pretty good! Anyway here are some pictures: And to finish things off, I have a question: As I mentioned above, the bloke I bought it off said some of the knobs were a bit dicky. I think I have found what he is talking about. In the image below you can see in the Traktor interface that the crossfader is not fully to the track on the right, although when this image was taken, the crossfader on the controller was. So when I am using the mixer, I can still hear a bit of deck A when the crossfader on the controller is slid all the way over to deck B side. However, when I have the crossfader all the way over on deck A, it works fine and I hear none of deck B. Does anyone have a possible solution for this? Or know who could fix it? Cheers, Alex
  3. @ Wazza: Yeah I am looking at getting a DJ setup in the next few months, don't have the space for it right now. I am thinking something along the lines of Traktor S4, which has the inbuilt sound card anyway. That e box sounds pretty good though, and a good price as well, may be worth a look even if it is overkill for the reasons I want it. It is purely for listening to music in better quality and perhaps a little production down the track
  4. LOLOLOL! Not a bad read, I just hate it when people relate unrelated things to make it make sense!
  5. So, I have a laptop with inbuilt sound and I am becoming a bit of an audiophile, which isn't really a combination that goes well together. I was reading APC magazine the other day and I was looking at the ASUS Xonar Essence One external USB sound card. Should be one hell of a good sounding unit, but a long way past what I want to pay at $550. Here is a link to the overview: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/Xonar_Essence_One/ I dug around a bit using the forum search and found another mentioned quite a bit, the Behringer UCA202. It looks pretty good, and can be found for only $60 or so: http://www.behringer.com/fr/Products/UCA202.aspx Being only new to this whole DJing thing I'm not too sure on what's what, but I will want it for general listening (good quality of course) and possibly a bit of production, though nothing serious just for fun. I have heard that you need ASIO support for that, which the Behringer has. So, being new to this, can anyone give me an opinion on the behringer or anything else they think may be suitable? Maybe up to $150 or so? Cheers Guys! Alex
  6. What is the go with these "non genuine" beats. Are they copies of the genuine ones? Or are they exactly the same product without the expensive badges? I need a set of headphones and my brother in law has a set of Beats that set him back something stupid like $600. I like them
  7. Alrighty then, plenty of info around on the matter I'm sure, so I'll go dig up some old threads
  8. Well! Thanks for all of the warm welcomes! Interesting to see there are a few photographers on here as well, and even spitfire into a bit of beach bashing here and there! IMO, that is good enough for me. Well, there is good news and bad news about getting myself into my first DJ setup. Due to the fact that we are pooling together as much cash as possible for buying a house, I am forbidden to spend any money on things I don't need, which rules out any DJ stuff. Fair enough I guess as there's nowhere to use it in my parents place. I pushed for permission to lay-buy something when I find it, but still got a no. Gotta say though, I have been tempted to start slipping away a little cash here and there to save a little, hide it under the mattress. (metaphorically speaking of course, she'd find it there!) The good side to that is I have a good few months to work out what I need and want, so I should be well set by the time I am ready to buy! After a bit of reading around I was looking at CDJ's, but then I read about things like Traktor S4 and Denon MC6000 and thought that may be more suited to what I want it for, and a better starting out price. What is the pro's and cons of these really? Is it a quality or ease of use thing?
  9. Hi All! My name is Alex, and I am here to infect you as another Perth member! Okay, so I have been kicking around here for a couple of days, getting the feel for it and trying to at least get an idea of what everything is, and thought it was time to introduce myself. I have just finished 2 years of study in photography, and run a business part time (weekends pretty much) with my partner who photographs weddings. I focus on travel photographing and writing freelance for a few magazines, but mostly a 4WDing one. I also do a few odd photo jobs here and there in varying fields. I have a full time job as a 4WD accessory fitter, just to bring in some decent money to get me out of my parents place, which I am hoping will happen in the next couple of months. It is also no coincidence that I photograph for 4wd mags and fit accessories to them, 4WDing is just another one of my (very expensive) hobbies. And lastly the reason I am here! Basically it started out with putting a decent stereo in my car, and wondering what this "dubstep" thing is that everyone is talking about. Not only that, but it has started me developing an appreciation for good sound, so I started listening to CD's and records again with a new appreciation for a quality sound system. Then a few weeks ago I was watching a DJ at a party and thought it looked pretty cool, poked around on Youtube and saw some awesome videos and here I am! Complete n00b and ready to try and get my head around this DJ business, hopefully as yet another expensive hobby Cheers! Alex
