  1. nah mate i am using fruity loops and a couple of different packs i have collected over the past year and a bit.. i will check out those ones you have suggested though. cheers for the tips too i will have another play around tonight..
  2. traktor s4 is pretty good, i have been learning on mine for roughly 18 months. didnt like the idea of cdjs. the pioneer i think were $3-4k where as i paid $999 for the traktor.
  3. im not just concentrating on the drop... i have been concentrating on everything leading up to it... previously i haven't been able to successfully create a quality drop cause i didnt know the right technique... anyway, last night i figured it out while playing around with street cleaners suggestion... i ended up just re-adding the drum and bass kit again as new instruments but at a higher volume level... worked a treat and is alot cleaner than applying multiple than the layering.
  4. haha, your logic makes sense so i am assuming it will work. i just tried dick smith and they only had an RCA to 6.5mm jack. going to have to try jaycar later in the week.
  5. i didnt even consider replacing the cords to try one of the other inputs. im going to duck across to the shops now and see if i can find the right cord - hopefully can hook it up tonight. thanks again! and yep its an S4. cheers
  6. hi again so i use my traktor kontrol as my mixer and fruity loops to produce my tracks... i have plugged my guitar into the traktor kontrol (into the 'mic' input) and recorded some tunes. i set deck c for example to 'live input' and simply start recording. the issue i have is that when i play the recording back, the volume is incredibly low and there is a heap of feedback. to fix the volume issue i have previously edited (increased the dB) the sounds in audacity, but it just adds to the feedback problem. am i missing something? or is this to be expected when recording with a live instrument? do i need to get myself another form of controller? i've adjusted the mic volume and a few other settings to try and get it working, but still no luck. for future reference, i am also going to hook up a keyboard to the kontrol (and assign sounds to each key etc). does it all sort of relate? or is that like hooking up a synth/drum pad? ive previously tediously just done it on the PC, so these haven't been issues i've been faced with previously. apologies for my lack of knowledge, im just getting pretty serious now and want to do things the right way to ensure the quality of sound is top notch. cheers
  7. makes sense and would give it that extra 'umph' right? suprisingly didnt think of that. will have a go at it tonight. cheers
  8. ^ I guess thats where my confusion arose, because there are plenty of tracks released that have other artists samples, i just wasn't sure about how 'honest' the disclosure of this was to other artists involved etc. i guess as long as its not a dead ringer for the track it should be sweet, alot of my stuff is just sounds re-edited, so hopefully that should be ok.
  9. so your producing a track, the track sounds good, progressing nicely... and then comes time for the big drop.... this is where i get stuck. i dont seem to be able to create the 'fat' bassy beat i need that the song has been building too. im sure its pretty simple and i just need to find fatter/louder bass/kicks, but was hoping someone may be able to give me any tips they may have. cheers
  10. everyone has to start somewhere.
  11. sounds about right. thanks for the insights.
  12. Im gona have to talk here, The s4 isn't really made for beat matching (e.g. the tiny faders and the position of the jog wheels) Personally, I don't mind if they use it, as long as they CAN beatmatch normally, it doesn't matter to me. GTFO, just get out if you even consider using the sync button then you are not a DJ, if you use sync you might as well be running nightlife... if its hard to beatmatch on then maybe it shouldnt be a DJ controller from my little experience, its a rapidly changing scene. there are alot of shit djs out there who dont even beatmatch, i would prefer them use the sync button than to have the crappy overlapped songs i hear sometimes. the issue for me begins when people are auto cueing, may aswell record a cd, press play and walk away for an hour. syncing i dont see a problem with.
  13. makes sense - has shed a bit of light on it for me. what was the outcome of the jordan and deadmau5 situation, did he get any coin from it?
  14. thanks that makes sense. so in the example i posted with bonobo, technically, he should have been paying part of a royalty to whoever made that original track (as it was a significant sound in the overall production). or does the fact he edited the sound excuse him from the royalty part? appreciate the info!
  15. I don't think that's right man, not sure on the exact rules but I can easy sample lyrics from a song, make a remix, give credit to vocal artist and as long as I don't make money on it that's fine i agree with that, if you in a club and remix a track, its not an issue. but in the example i provided, the sample is from an old record and is used in a track which the artist has sold and made money from. the point spitfire made i somewhat understand. but lets forget your instrumental samples here for a second and imagine that for example i bought a britney spears track for $0.99c, made a remix sampling her work with just the line 'hit me baby one more time' used, released it on itunes and sold 100,000 copies. hows the break down work? does she see any of that money?
