  1. Denon is doing everything it can to compete with Pioneer to be the ultimate, go-to brand for DJ equipment. The former has introduced the Prime 4 standalone system — which is all any beginner or intermediate DJ would need to dive right into the mix. Even professionals can have fun and get creative with this setup. Pioneer’s XDJ-RX2 has arguably been the next best option before upgrading to CDJs and that’s probably still the case. Similarly to Denon’s newly introduced Prime 4, it’s an all-in-one system. However, the big catch is the two-channel setup. DJs have been craving the 4-channel option in a concise, all-in-one piece that still feels within reach to the CDJ experience. That is, until now. Denon’s Prime 4 delivers on that need with its new system, priced at $1,699. The number still may be a little startling for aspiring DJs, but it’s much more affordable than going all out with four decks and a mixer. The rig runs through Denon’s Engine Prime software, but is compatible with playlists and hot cues from Serato DJ Pro, Traktor Pro, and Rekordbox. “With its ultra-responsive, touch-capacitive jog wheels, high-quality audio I/O, and built-in time stretching and key matching, Prime 4 has everything you need to bring your mixes to the club.” This hybrid — more than a controller yet not quite a professional setup — surely has its perks. But can Denon compete with the industry standard, Pioneer? Surely, the Prime 4 will give the XDJ-RX2 a run for its money, especially considering both pieces of equipment are set to the exact same price point. The Prime 4 DJ setup is expected to go on sale in March 2019. More info here. Denon DJ Prime 4 – Standalone DJ System This article was first published on Your EDM. 2. Foals are set to take over 2019 with not one, but two new albums, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1 and Part 2. Today, the UK rockers have revealed the details of Part 1, as well as the album’s lead single. They’ve also announced an expansive world tour. Part 1 is expected to hit shelves March 8th. The albums spans a total of 10 tracks, including titles like “Moonlight”, “White Onions”, “Syrups”, and “I’m Done with the World (& It’s Done With Me)”. “They’re two halves of the same locket,” Foals lead guitarist and singer frontman Yannis Philippakis explained of the connection between the projects two parts. “They can be listened to and appreciated individually, but fundamentally, they are companion pieces.” Our first preview comes with “Exits”, a fidgety, strutting number about a dystopian world in which “the weather is against us, we build houses underground, and flowers upside down.” Philippakis offered more context on the track in a statement: “There’s a definite idea about the world being no longer habitable in the way that it was. A kind of perilousness lack of predictability and a feeling of being overwhelmed by the magnitudes of the problems we face. What’s the response? And what’s the purpose of any response that one individual can have?” Take a listen to “Exits” below via its official music video, which stars Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark from Game of Thrones) and French actress Christa Théret. Check out the artwork and full tracklist for Part 1. As previously noted, Part 2 will arrive in the fall. 3. Pearl Jam want to release a new album in 2019 — or, at least that’s the plan. However, according to a new interview with Rolling Stone, it hasn’t been easy for the Seattle rockers, and several factors have kept their much-delayed follow-up to 2013’s Lightning Bolt in flux, including the untimely passing of Chris Cornell. “It’s just been slow going. It’d be fun to record or even just write a song together,” bassist Jeff Ament told the publication. “I think when Chris [Cornell] passed, that’s really been a tough one to wrap our heads around, and then there’s just life stuff.” It’s clear the late Soundgarden frontman’s passing has had a major impact on the members of PJ. Ament, guitarist Stone Gossard, and drummer Matt Cameron were a major part of last week’s all-star tribute to the late singer-songwriter that took place at Los Angeles’ The Forum. Both frontman Eddie Vedder and guitarist Mike McCready were not present, though Vedder did perform a tribute to Cornell this past December, and McCready has been incredibly vocal about the loss. In addition to performing at the tribute, Ament served as creative director for the recent Chris Cornell box set. For the project, he worked alongside his brother, Barry, screen-printing watercolor portraits of Cornell as part of the artwork. (Read: Ranking: Every Pearl Jam Album From Worst to Best) “That was hard,” he recounted. “[Chris’ widow] Vicky [Cornell] had asked me to get involved with it, and over the course of the years, Chris would often reach out. I remember with the Audioslave record and a couple of his solo records, he would send me the artwork.” “Even the last solo record, I mocked up some ideas,” he continued. “I think he appreciated my sensibilities when it came to that stuff. So it was pretty hard to go down that path, creating that stuff and listening to the music. It’s just another reminder that he’s not here, and that just sucks. It really sucks.” However, even with all this focus on Cornell, Gossard is ready to hit the studio and look towards the future. “We’re going to make a record,” he insisted, “and we’re in the middle of it. We’re just going to keep plugging away until we get one done.” (Read: Band of the Year: Pearl Jam Refused to Back Down in 2018) Plugging away is one way to put it. As Ament revealed, the band has “gone in, probably, four or five times in the last couple of years,” which has resulted in “whole ton of unfinished stuff.” However, one song, last year’s “Can’t Deny Me”, managed to surface. “We’re just sort of in a little bit of limbo,” Ament added. ” I’m sure everybody’s got a bunch more riffs, and I’m sure Ed’s got a handful of journal lyrics. It’s just going to take us all getting into a room together for six weeks and just knocking something out.” Ament said he’s been writing plenty of material lately, which could either be used for Pearl Jam or one of his forthcoming solo releases. “When I do those, it’s mostly to clean off the shelves and finish stuff,” he explained of his own albums, “it’s stuff that has been on the Pearl Jam shelf for a few years and nobody is really responding to it.” He added, “I think all of us have gotten into the habit of finishing stuff up and putting it out. This is a broken record, but I think I’ve said that I would record a lot more with Pearl Jam if that was what could happen. It just hasn’t happened for some reason.” It’s certainly not for a lack of effort. Pearl Jam were unstoppable last year, from saving Seattle’s homeless to pissing off Trumpers to performing multiple residencies across North America. That’s not even counting their own respective solo endeavors. So, clearly they need a gasp. Until then, fans will have to remain, ahem, faithful. Source
  4. Opera Nightclub in Atlanta is under scrutiny after a woman allegedly live streamed herself being raped on the dance floor of the club and no one came to her aid. The incident happened Saturday, January 19, as New Orleans rapper August Alsina was performing. The woman, who has made the videos public, has been identified as Jasmine Eiland. She was live streaming on her Facebook throughout the night, according to public posts, during which time she was approached by a stranger. The man asked if she was alone, to which she replied that she was. The man walked off screen and later returned with a drink for Eiland — judging by her behavior on stream the rest of the night, it’s believed the drink had been drugged. No toxicology report has been issued to confirm this suspicion. Multiple separate live streams were posted throughout the night, including one of the alleged rape, which has since been deleted and handed over to police as evidence. Eiland posted another video addressing the media coverage and rumors surrounding the incident. According to Ravers Choice, which viewed the video before it was removed, “She can be seen on the dance floor, with her breasts out, and the same man that had retrieved a drink for her is penetrating her from behind while she is screaming out ‘Help me, please god, someone do something’ with tears streaming down her face.” Opera Nightclub posted the following statement earlier today. This is not the first time that Opera has been in the news in recent months. Late last year, Opera staff was accused of extorting patrons who’d already paid for tickets to a show, demanding upwards of $100 on top of what they’d already paid for a ticket to get in. Opera Atlanta Director of Marketing Alexandra Trawick reached out to EDM.com to explain that the offending staff had been dealt with, and that the behavior did not “reflect their principles.” The fact that no security or staff was able to view an alleged rape in progress, or were otherwise pre-occupied or unable to help, is no good, either. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this situation as more information becomes available. Photo via Chucky Foto This article was first published on Your EDM. 5. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard gave Ty Segall a run for his money in 2017, when the prolific outfit released not one, not two, but five albums in the span of 12 months. After a relatively quiet 2018, the Australian psych rockers have new material in the works — and its release is imminent. “NeW. MuSiC. CoMiNg. SoOn,” the band teasingly posted on social media yesterday, alongside a photo of an in-studio session: NeW. MuSiC. CoMiNg. SoOn. .. pic.twitter.com/AmgCP8p9ec — King Gizzard (@kinggizzardband) January 20, 2019 The update quickly had fans wishfully speculating the band’s release schedule for the new year. “Twelve albums in 2019, one per month,” wrote one fan, while another quipped, “Four albums a month or I make myself deaf.” Will King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard break their 2017 record (and topple Ryan Adams’ own ambitious 2019 plans)? Stay tuned. (Read: 2017 Band of the Year King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop, and Don’t Need to Stop) Last year saw King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard reissue some of their earliest albums on vinyl for the very first time. 6. Often times we hear musicians talk about pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into their music, but in the case of Slipknot, it looks like the “blood” part of that notion is literally manifesting itself, thanks to drummer Jay Weinberg. With the band currently in the studio recording their new album, which is tentatively due this summer, the stickman posted a photo on Instagram of his drum kit, covered in blood, with the caption, “In case you’re wondering what kind of album we’re making.” While Weinberg is responsible for adding “blood” to the recording process, it appears that frontman Corey Taylor is supplying the “tears.” The singer opened up about the personal nature of the new album’s lyrics in a new interview with Music Week. “I can’t go into it too much because it deals with a lot of my personal life, but the last few years have been really tough for me,” said Taylor. “With the exception of my kids and my bands, it’s been a dark time for me … I didn’t relapse or anything, but it was just the depression that I was dealing with and the anger that I was dealing with that was consuming me. I had to get myself out of that situation, and now the lyrics I’m writing for the Slipknot album are all about that period of time.” Taylor added that he’s still trying to write the perfect song. “My mind is so fucking all over the place it’s not even funny half the time,” he explained. “For me, the quest has always been the perfect lyric, that perfect turn of phrase, that perfect set of stanzas to sit there and read over and over and be so delighted and tickled that you wrote them and so proud. You know, I’ve come close a handful of times but I don’t think I’ve written the perfect thing yet, but that’s why I keep going for it, I keep chasing that.” Slipknot surprised fans with “All Out Life”, the first single off the album, back on Halloween day. So far, they’ve announced a 2019 European tour, as well as a headlining gig at the Iowa State Fair in August. 7. Well, there’s at least one happy ending that came out of Fyre Festival… If you watched the recent documentaries, the one on Netflix in particular, then you’ll remember Bahamian caterer Maryann Rolle. She was the woman feeding the entire Fyre crew and the excess of their island’s population as festival goers rolled in. Day and night, she and her staff worked tirelessly on keeping people fed. As the Fyre documentary reveals, her job was a thankless one. On top of it all, she spent her personal savings, paying workers out of her own pocket. Maryann and her crew, like many others on the island, didn’t receive pay from festival organizers. Her real-life account of the Fyre experience is truly heartbreaking “I pushed myself to the limits catering no less than a 1,000 meals per day,” Maryann explains. “Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all prepared and delivered by Exuma Point to Coco Plum Beach, and Roker’s Point where the main events were scheduled to take place.” Thanks to viewers watching the Netflix documentary from home, she now past her $123,000 goal, currently at $135,000. GoFundMe confirms, this is a verified fundraiser. 8. Progressive metalcore act Born of Osiris have remained a consistent force in heavy music, thanks to the group’s penchant for marrying impressive technical instrumentation with undeniable melody. The Illinois outfit recently released its new studio album, The Simulation, which centers around a theme that’s a hot topic right now: the dangers of technology. “We choose to have this phone, but it’s scary,” guitarist Lee McKinney tells Heavy Consequence. “I see people that are growing up, not going outside, playing video games, watching videos on their cell. It’s a dangerous thing.” With Born of Osiris set to kick off a headlining North American tour next month, Heavy Consequence caught up with McKinney to further discuss the themes found throughout The Simulation, his thoughts on the direction of metal music and his upcoming debut solo album. Read the interview below. On The Simulation and how Born of Osiris’ sound and style has changed from their first albums to now I talk about growth a lot with albums, but with this one, we almost return to form. With this record, we’re returning to what we want to do. We realized we needed to stop chasing opinions. We did a 10-year anniversary tour of our first album and realized that people still like that sporadic tech side of us so, so we brought it back in the new album, as well as naturally being older and just having that natural progression as musicians. On how Born of Osiris packed such variety into The Simulation Our drummer is a real death metal guy and has the technical side. He’s a songwriter, and I’m a songwriter, and every record sounds different because the drummer and I want it to. We have this yin-yang approach, in that he’s the technical, death metal dude, and I’m the guy that is more structured in terms of song structure, having a solid verse and definite chorus. That brings those two sounds together. We do have a new member, Nick, who was a fan of the band a long time, so he has a cool perspective of not being in the band but knowing the band and saying, “If I was in the band, I would do this!” So, having a third person writing songs is a really cool addition and brings more variety. On hearing fans’ reactions to The Simulation For every record, it’s positive and negative, and as long as more people are keep coming to our shows, that’s all I care about. I stopped reading comments after our first few albums came out. I think for this one, it’s in the sweet spot of what we wanted to do and what the fans wanted us to do, not necessarily on purpose, but after doing the 10-year anniversary tour, we realized that we wanted to keep that sound. There was a great reaction to it, and people were saying, “You should go read the comments,” so I finally read one comment, and it was really good. On the album’s single and video “The Accursed” being about people being addicted to machines, social media and virtual reality I think we’re becoming one with our cell phones, whether we choose to or not. I’m 29, so I’m of that generation where people say we are addicted to their phones, but I would say that the younger ones are even crazier. Everything is in the phone. You get a phone at a young age, and it’s a style thing — every kid has one. It feels crazy. Also, with your phone in your hands, you have a calculator and can do perfect math. You can spell everything correctly. You have any answer to any question immediately. What if this phone was a permanent attachment? We have to live with it, and things will advance with technology and artificial intelligence, but we have to keep it at bay. On his personal favorite songs off The Simulation “Silence the Echo” is fun, because it’s the first time I’m playing an eight-string, so it feels heavy and big on bass. “The Accursed” is fun to play live. I’ve also been enjoying “Analogs in a Cell,” because it has some fun guitar parts. It’s a selfish thing for me to be able to shred, and the tempo and vibe of that song will be fun live. I think people like like to hear it live. On the importance of the live show to Born of Osiris It’s definitely important. A lot of us play different roles. Our keyboard player builds out light show. Everybody takes their own roles and excels different ways. This year, we’re bringing out a lot of lights and different things. We’re putting a lot of money into the show, but that’s how you know a live show is important to a band. We’re making less money on the tours because we’re putting more into the stage show. On the Warped Tour having its final cross-country run last year I’ve had memories of going to the Warped Tour when I was younger. We were all into punk before we were into metal. It was an evolution, so I have good memories from there. We were heavy for the tour, but we did it a couple of times. But being a metal band, it’s different. Sometimes it’s cool to be the heavy band on the bill, because people want to see some extra aggression, but it’s also the point that you’re on the fringe of what that tour is about, so a lot of kids don’t come. We had a great experience, but we were definitely the oddball heavier band. I respect it, and I think they’ll keep doing what they do, just in a different format. On what it was like coming up from the Chicago-area music scene It was interesting, because coming up in high school, Veil of Maya was a big technical metal band like us, and they signed to Sumerian Records, and then there was After the Burial, who also signed to Sumerian. And, then we signed to Sumerian. We had this really cool thing coming up in Chicago, and we were feeding off each other. People started calling all of us “Sumerian-core,” which is funny, because it was really just that they happened to come to our place at that point in time and snagged each of our bands. On his thoughts on the state of metal music There are a couple of things I find interesting lately. One is that people have been commenting on our new album, saying, “Thank God metal isn’t dead. You guys are bringing it back.” I didn’t know it was dead! (Laughs) Then, our tour manager told us, “I think metal is making a comeback!” Things come in cycles — dub-step, hip-hop — then people are sick of that and want metal again. So, maybe it is coming back, if it was dead. I don’t know. I’m hearing both ends of the spectrum. On where he sees Born of Osiris 10 years from now That’s a good question, because we’re getting close to our thirties now, and I’ve thought about this a lot. It depends on what your band does and how your band does business. Ten years from now, I would be a year away from 40, and I won’t look as good in skinny jeans. Will I lose the young kids? But, our band has never been an Instagram band. We do our best to look presentable, but that’s not why kids come to our shows. We try to be true and make music for the sake of music. In 10 years, we’ll know whether this is about music and being timeless or whether it’s a trend. On his upcoming solo album It’s guitar-driven, and it’s instrumental, so there are no vocals at all. It’s got quiet moments, and it’s got heavy moments. I wouldn’t call it a metal record. I’ve been wanting to do this for years, and I’m pumped up about it. I played every instrument, except I had one guest saxophone player. I think every guitar player who wants to do it for a living grows up listening to the greats and wanting to do a solo guitar record. As an 11-year-old kid, I told myself, “I’m going to do that one day.” It’s that time. Our thanks to Lee McKinney for taking the time to speak with us. 9. Believe it or not, but it’s already been two years since Baby Driver. Not surprisingly, director Edgar Wright is already hard at work on a follow-up, and while it’s not the much-hyped sequel to his action musical, it’s something radically different for the filmmaker. In an interview with Empire, Wright revealed that he’s in the midst of pre-production on a straight-up psychological horror film, which is influenced by the simmering slow-burn horror of Nicolas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now and Roman Polanski’s Repulsion. “I realized I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years,” Wright explained. “With Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead, you make movies about places you’ve lived in. This movie is about the London I’ve existed in.” Wright co-wrote the screenplay with Penny Dreadful writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns and will begin shooting the film in London this summer. Casting information has yet to be announced but the story will feature a female lead at the center. Have no fear, though, a sequel to Baby Driver is in the proverbial garage. Wright said, “A first draft of Baby Driver 2 exists,” and suggested that the next chapter expands the world, introduces new characters, and “takes the story further.” Revisit our past interview with Wright in which he discusses the need for original blockbusters, the pitfalls of online streaming, keeping tabs on all things pop culture, and why Midnite Vultures is Beck’s greatest album. 10. Phantom Planet reunited over the weekend and performed together for the first time in half a decade. According to posts on social media, the band played a secret show in in Beverly Hills on Saturday night. You can see fan-shot performance footage of “Wishing Well”, off their 2002 album The Guest, below. Ahead of this weekend’s reunion, the Los Angeles alt-rock outfit officially launched its own Instagram account with a picture of a throwback band logo. Group members Alex Greenwald and Sam Farrar also posted similar teasers on their own personal social media accounts. Phantom Planet went on an indefinite hiatus after the release of their fourth album, 2008’s Raise the Dead. They reunited briefly a few times after that, most recently at the Troubadour in Hollywood back in June 2012. Actor Jason Schwartzman was famously part of the group up until 2003, though it doesn’t look as if he’ll be back for this reunion. Source
  11. Last week, a judge ordered Grimes and Azealia Banks to preserve all Twitter, Instagram, and text message conversations relating to Elon Musk’s “420” tweet. Now, after Musk’s attorneys attempted to discredit her as a witness, Banks has chosen to share her correspondences with Grimes for the entire world to see. First a quick refresher: Musk, the billionaire founder of Tesla, sent out a tweet in early August falsely claiming that he had secured funding to take his company private at $420 a share. Apparently, Musk thought the number would amuse his girlfriend, Grimes, who had taught him the meaning of 420 in marijuana culture. Later that month, Banks revealed that she’d spent a harrowing weekend like “a real [life] episode of Get Out” with Grimes at Musk’s house, right when the infamous tweet was sent. Banks told Business Insider that she saw Musk “scrounging for investors” after tweeting, and alluded on Instagram that he may have written the message while on acid. The tweet cost Tesla billions of dollars in valuation, and Musk is now facing a lawsuit from several of the company’s investors. Musk’s legal team had hoped to prevent Banks from testifying in the suit. “She is a ‘veteran of long and nonsensical beefs [having] feuded with everyone from Sarah Pain to Nick Cannon,’ Musk’s lawyer Dean Kristy argued in a legal filing. “She remains a ‘Twitter villain even after being banned from the service’; she went on a rant on Instagram ‘that began as a delirious critique of colonial wealth and racial privilege, [and] became a vaguely eugenicist denigration of Musk as a caveman.’” In response, Banks suggested she has “plenty more dirt to spill on Elon,” adding, “This is going to get extremely ugly. I may be a lot of things but a liar is not one of them. Elon will learn very soon who is more powerful of us two.” Now, Banks has shared her text message correspondence with Grimes dating back to August 16th, 2018 — nine days after Musk’s “420” tweet. In the text messages (via reddit), Grimes repeatedly refers to Banks as a “narc”, and both women trade insults about the other’s physical appearance. Banks previously apologized to Musk for “all the painful events you’ve endured” and encouraged him to “just speak to me directly bc This is getting out of hand.” However, in a later Instagram message, she accused Musk of “hack[ing] my phone, my computer, my website, have a PI wait on my block, stalk my social media, have failed attempts to poison me etc etc etc.” We’ve reached out to representatives for Banks and Grimes for more information. 12. Lars Ulrich has taken a lot of flak over the years for his drumming skills, but there’s no denying the success he has had behind the kit as Metallica’s stickman. However, it’s highly doubtful that the band would have become the biggest metal band on the planet had Lars been their frontman instead of James Hetfield. Either way, we have a taste of Ulrich’s singing skills, thanks to new rehearsal footage the band just posted on YouTube. The clip was shot in the tuning room before Metallica’s October 18th show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At the 7:30 mark of the video (cued up below), Lars tells his bandmates, “Let’s play ‘Delivering the Goods’,” referring to the Judas Priest song off 1978’s Killing Machine. The band then launches into the song, with Ulrich rocking the mic with his guttural voice for a couple of verses. Interestingly enough, Jon Zazula (aka Jonny Z), who founded Megaforce Records and gave Metallica their first record deal, told Metal Hammer a few years ago that Ulrich once entertained the notion of being the band’s vocalist in their early days. “James wasn’t the most confident of singers,” explained Zazula. “I don’t think he felt comfortable. At one point there was even talk of Lars becoming the frontman. For about five seconds.” [See Also: Ranking Every Metallica Album From Worst to Best] In other news, Ulrich had the highest praise for Miley Cyrus after she and Metallica both performed at last week’s Chris Cornell tribute concert at The Forum in Inglewood, California. “Miley, still stunned by your next level version of ‘Say Hello 2 Heaven’ for Chris! Beyond inspiring…,” the drummer captioned an Instagram photo of himself and Cyrus, who sang the Temple of the Dog classic at the concert. Metallica kicked off the latest North American leg of their “Worldwired Tour” this past Friday (January 18th) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 14. Huey Lewis and the News are back and ready to release their first new album in almost two decades. The legendary ’80s rock outfit has signed with BMG in anticipation of their first collection of original songs since 2001’s Plan B. “We’re very excited about our new album, and honestly feel that it’s among our best work – we cannot wait to get it out to fans!” Lewis says in a press release. “We’re equally excited to be with BMG, whose reputation as a ‘music-first’ label precedes them admirably.” The news comes less than a year after Lewis was forced to cancel 40 dates after being diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease, an inner ear disorder that can result in vertigo, tinnitus, and ear pressure. He first experienced the symptoms during a Dallas gig last March. “Two and a half months ago, just before a show in Dallas, I lost most of my hearing,” he wrote in a Twitter statement last April. “Although I can still hear a little, one on one and on the phone, I can’t hear music well enough to sing. The lower frequencies distort violently making it impossible to find pitch.” In October, Lewis returned to the stage for the first time to perform “Hip to Be Square” at a golf event. However, Lewis told his fans earlier this month, “I can’t hear enough to sing, so we have no gigs booked,” adding, “I hope I can get better.” Fortunately for him and his fans, his current condition has not stopped him from recording new music. The album is due this spring and will mark the band’s first new original tunes since their titular track for 2008’s Pineapple Express. And with Ghostbusters also making a comeback, perhaps Lewis might want to finally write an original anthem for the franchise? You know, one where he doesn’t get royalties thanks to copyright law? 16. You haven’t really lived until you’ve witnessed a jet of flame or blast from a CO2 cannon that almost knocks you off your feet when watching your favourite act and a good part of the reason why they are a mainstay at various festivals around the world and more often here in Australia. Cue James Christofides of Aus FX knows a thing or two about both having been officially in the game for some 15 years now (not including dabbling around as a kid without mum knowing) who gives us his take on the allure, the power of pressing that button as well as a big project he’s working on ahead of the Electric Gardens tour that’ll feature some pretty bad ass cannons. SR: How long have you been involved in pyro/CO2 for? What started it all? CO2: Officially, it’s been 15 years. Unofficially, closer to 20. I loved to play with fire as a kid, as a lot of kids do. I then realised I could turn it into a job, and from then on you couldn’t stop me. Its hard to put into words, but its something about being able to play with all that energy. And the adrenalin of a gig is something else. It feels pretty good when you press a button and the crowd goes crazy. SR: What do you think draws people in when it comes to CO2 cannons during performances? CO2: It’s the intensity of the effect. They’re loud, fast, and always increase the energy of a drop. SR: Whats next for CO2 and pyro?? Any predictions for fans to be ready for? CO2: Well we’re making the cryo a little more interactive for Electric Gardens. Get front row if you want a new hair-do. If it’s a hot day, your gonna love it. SR: How does the Amnesia CO2 cannons stack up globally? Are they the biggest/baddest Australia has seen? CO2: These are custom made in Australia specifically for this festival. We’ve taken our regular AusJet and made it two and a half times bigger. I don’t know of anyone building anything similar here in Australia. So there you have it, when watching those beautiful plumes of CO2 blast skyward think of James blowing stuff up as a kid and know that dreams do come true. As mentioned above, he’ll be manning the Amnesia Stage at this years Electric Gardens festival that’ll feature sets from Patrick Topping (3 hours), Eats Everything, Sigma, Grum and many, many more. 18. In what appears to be a side step away from pill testing, NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian has introduced even more red tape for music festivals moving forward in NSW. Dubbed a ‘Special Liquor License’, music festivals from March 1st this year will need to apply and be approved by a panel of selected experts, anticipated to include NSW Health, Police, Ambulance as well as Liquor and Gaming NSW, before a licence can be issued. While the government decides how they will structure the new license, there are some temporary conditions that festivals must provide a designated area assigned with doctors, nurses and paramedics to help punters who aren’t feeling well have the help they might require and access to free water stations. Failure of the above could lead to jail time of up to 12 months or fines up to $100,000 for those who don’t adhere to the strict guidelines. With an added layer of paper work, are these laws designed to strangle the business viability of holding a music festival, like the lockout laws? The regulation comes as The Royal Australasian College of Physicians, a peak body that represents 17,000 doctors wrote an open letter to state heads saying they support pill testing in Australia with their own guidelines. 19. This week, Second Lady Karen Pence took a job at a private school that seeks to exclude homosexual and transgender students and staff members. The move was met with backlash by supporters of LGBTQ rights: GLAAD lambasted Pence for “discriminating against LGBTQ students,” while the ACLU said Pence was “sending a terrible message to students… and disavow[ing] LGBTQ youth.” Lady Gaga, herself a staunch advocate for LGBTQ equality, ripped both Karen Pence and her husband, Vice President Mike Pence, during a concert in Las Vegas on Saturday Night. While performing the song “Million Reasons”, Gaga paused to say: “To Mike Pence, who thinks it’s acceptable that his wife work at a school that bans LGBTQ, you are wrong. You say we should not discriminate against Christianity; you are the worst representation of what it means to be a Christian. I am a Christian woman and what I do know about Christianity is that we bear no prejudice and everybody is welcome. So you can take all that disgrace Mr. Pence and you can look yourself in the mirror and you’ll find it right there.” Gaga also went after Donald Trump for his role in the ongoing government shutdown: “If the fucking president of the United States could please put our government back in business… There are people who live paycheck to paycheck and need their money.” Watch video of Gaga’s comments below. In defending his wife, Vice President Pence said in a statement, “To see major news organizations attacking Christian education, is deeply offensive to us.” He added, “We have a rich tradition in America of Christian education and, frankly, religious education broadly defined. We celebrate it. The freedom of religion is enshrined in the Constitution of the United States. The Constitution prohibits a religious test for holding a public office and so we’ll let the other critics roll off our back, but this criticism of Christian education in America should stop.” Source

That’s really all the entertainment you need. The rapper is speaking out, criticizing the bias of both documentaries and explaining his side of how it all went down. Ja Rule swears he would “never scam” or “fraud” anyone. “What sense does that make???” His counterpart and the true mastermind behind Fyre, Billy McFarland is currently serving out a six year sentence in prison on multiple accounts of fraud. “Hulu PAID BILLY!!!” Ja adds. “That money should have went to the ppl in the Bahamas… Netflix PAID fuck Jerry who also did all the promo for the festival… the docs clearly have Billy at fault but let’s blame the rapper lmao ok…” Near the end of Netflix’s Fyre documentary, Ja Rule is heard talking to Fyre employees following the disaster festival. They question the lies and the deception that knowingly went on during production process. “That’s not fraud,” Ja Rule says with confidence. That’s more like “false advertising” in his eyes. Anyways, Ja Rule still stands by his idea for a visionary music event. Fyre was meant to be a festival like no other. Most importantly, he has receipts. 21. No one knows just how hot a car left in the sun can get than Australians. Every time we hop in the car thoughts of cracking an egg on the dashboard flash through our minds, getting branded with the seatbelt is a natural coming of age tradition and the sun’s reflection on the paint is brighter than my future. One Victorian cafe owner discovered just how hot temperatures can get, as she left a raw steak in her car and came back to discover it had been cooked all the way through. “Yesterday at 11am I put a porterhouse steak in my car which was parked in the shade and left it until 4pm,” the cafe wrote. “It was very well done upon my return.” “With this heatwave please remember never to leave children, elderly or animals in the car,” the post continued. “Always check on elderly neighbours, ensure your pets have a way to keep cool and cool drinking water.” A number of people were quick to call bullshit on the sun’s ability to cook a completely raw steak all the way through, but the cafe owner remained adamant that she was telling the truth. “I also wasn’t sure what would happen when I put it in there either. I was just as shocked at the result as many others have been,” they wrote. “I also believe we’re straying from my initial reason for doing such a thing, I wanted to remind people how dangerous this heat can be and that as a community we should be looking out for one another.” Here here. 22. Dillon Francis‘ produced work will soon be heard on the big screen, but it’s not what you’d expect. It’s far, far, more catchy than any of his songs to date. In the teaser below, his new song made especially for the The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is revealed. Dillon Francis, T-Pain, and That Girl Lay Lay collaborate for what’s debatably the catchiest song of all time. It has the kind of appeal of “Let It Go,” the overwhelmingly popular and overplayed song from Frozen. “This is fucking awesome,” Dillon shares on Twitter. “I got to make the lead song for the new Lego Movie.” He gives fair warning, “So if it gets stuck inside ur head and you want to punch me in the face I’m sorry.” But, we gotta admit — it’s catchy af. Borderline annoying even. The kind of song that you’ll either love, or love to hate. But, catchy. Seriously though, nobody would be able to pull off a theme song like this the way Dillon Francis has done. Play at your own risk — because this will be stuck in your head for a while. 23. Many musicians have publicly distanced themselves from R Kelly amidst allegations of sexual abuse. Even French Montana, who initially defended the embattled R&B singer, later issued a statement to express his support for Kelly’s alleged victims. There is, however, at least one musician still willing to defend Kelly. While performing in Chicago on Saturday night, Erykah Badu paused her concert to “say a prayer right now for [Kelly].” Badu initially acknowledged Kelly’s allegations — “I hope he sees the light of day if he’s done all those things we’ve seen on TV.” However, after some audience members began shouting, “Fuck him!”, Badu seemed to jump to Kelly’s defense. “That’s not love. What if one of the people who was assaulted by R Kelly grows up to become an offender?” Badu asked. “We gonna crucify them too? How do we do this? Just something to think about.” Badu acknowledged that her comments would be met with criticism. “They’re about to R Kelly me to death on the Internet,” she quipped, before adding, “I just want peace and love for everybody, healing for everybody. Healing for those who’ve been hurt, because everyone who’s been involved has been hurt.” TMZ obtained video of Badu’s remarks, which you can watch below. As you’ll see, several audience members can be heard expressing their frustration with Badu and pleading with her to move on. Badu’s on-stage comments arrive only three days after she raised eyebrows with an Instagram post that similarly offered her support for Kelly. “Having eyes that can see all points of view is a blessing… and a curse in the court of public opinion,” she wrote in a caption. When a fan accused her of supporting a “rapist and paedophile as your brother,” Badu responded: “Correction, love has little to do with supporting others’ bad choices. Love is wisdom.” At the 2015 Soul Train Awards, Badu introduced Kelly by saying he “has done more for black people than anyone.” It should be noted that Badu was one of many celebrities who declined to take part in Lifetime’s Surviving R Kelly docu-series. 24. Jauz wowed us with his 23-track concept album The Wise and the Wicked. His debut was all-encompassing in terms of his sound, artistic direction, and experimentation. With such a huge release under his belt, fans were excited to hear more — but we have some bad news and some good news about that. First, the bad news. Jauz might have to say goodbye to all of the new stuff he had written throughout 2018. It sounds like some sort of computer issue has caused him to lose his everything he was working on. According to a tweet straight from the source, his most recent material is gone. Now, for the good news. This means a fresh start for the producer. Of course, it’s not an easy thing as an artist to lose everything you’ve been working toward, especially over a technical problem. Honestly though, producers only get better with time. Hopefully this new start gives Jauz a new perspective on his music. He leaves us with a bit of advice — “Back up your computers kids.” So sorry to hear this, Jauz — but we know you’ll still deliver. Well, might have to say goodbye to all the music I’ve written from 2018 to now (that hasn’t come out yet)…. so much good stuff in the dirt. Back up ur computers kids. 25. One of Ozzy Osbourne’s most infamous onstage incidents happened on January 20th, 1982, when the Prince of Darkness bit the head off a bat during a show at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa. Now, to mark the anniversary of the occasion, Ozzy is hawking a new plush toy bat with a detachable head! It’s fitting that the metal legend is selling a toy bat, as he originally thought that a fan had thrown a rubber bat onstage, hence biting the head off without thinking twice. It was only later that he realized it was a real bat, and the incident made headlines all over the world, and has been associated wit the iconic rocker ever since. In a tweet promoting the plush bat, Ozzy writes, “Today marks the 37th Anniversary since I bit a head off a f*cking bat! Celebrate with this commemorative plush with detachable head.” The Tweet also shows an animated GIF showing the head detaching from the rest of the toy.
