  1. Harvey Weinstein’s sordid past continues to surface. In a new lawsuit filed against the former movie mogul and The Weinstein Company, an anonymous woman claims Weinstein once bragged about sleeping with Jennifer Lawrence. According to TMZ, Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on the anonymous aspiring actress, responding to her tearful protests by saying, “I slept with Jennifer Lawrence and look where she is; she has just won an Oscar.” The suit claims the two originally met at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, during which they had a meeting at the Waldorf Astoria in Park City, Utah. The woman says Weinstein barged into the bathroom while she was on the toilet and proceeded to masturbate on her, promising everything would be alright if they remained friends. Later that year, the two met again in New York City at Weinstein’s office, where the aforementioned incident involving Lawrence’s name occurred. The woman says she experienced similar harassment in January 2014 and February 2015, all in New York, and goes on to describe another horrific incident in December 2015 at a Beverly Hills hotel. Lawrence has since responded to the news, telling TMZ, “My heart breaks for all the women who were victimized by Harvey Weinstein. I have never had anything but a professional relationship with him. This is yet another example of the predatory tactics and lies that he engaged in to lure countless women.” A representative for Weinstein sent the following statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday: “This lawsuit was filed and updated strategically with no notice given or any attempt to reach out to Mr. Weinstein’s attorneys for one reason; It was meant to embarrass Mr. Weinstein and garner unchecked media attention. There is absolutely no truth to the malicious claims made in this lawsuit, and we are reviewing our options with an eye on filing for an immediate dismissal. Mr. Weinstein is embarrassed for Ms. Lawrence with whom he has only had a professional and respectful relationship, who has sadly been dragged into this ugly attempt at defamation. This filing further proves that anyone can say whatever they want in a lawsuit for maximum shock value, to defame and debase, without having to offer any facts or reality.” Weinstein is currently awaiting trial on multiple felony charges in New York. 2. Find me two leads better than this: Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan will unite for the first time on screen for Ammonite, a lesbian period romance written by God’s Own Country writer and director Francis Lee. According to Deadline, the story is set during the 1820s in an English coastal town and centers around an unlikely romance that sparks between paleontologist Mary Anning and an English maid. Lee made her feature-film debut last year at Sundance with God’s Own Country, where she won the World Cinema Directing Award, and went on to win Best Debut Screenwriter at the British Independent Film Awards. Winslet recently wrapped filming on James Cameron’s Avatar 2 and is now filming Blackbird. Ronan, however, can currently be seen in Mary Queen of Scots and will reunite with Lady Bird filmmaker Greta Gerwig for her remake of Little Women. Source
  3. Following singles from Nero, Alesso, 3LAU, Kaskade, Tycho, and Dillon Francis, the complete Ninjawerks Vol 1 compilation, a collaboration between streamer Ninja and label Astralwerks, is officially out today. With new tracks now available to listen to from Tiesto & Zaxx, NOTD, Justin Caruso, ARTY, CRAY, and Ducky, the full album demonstrates just how far Ninja’s influence infiltrates. It’s no secret that game streaming is becoming one of the biggest new industries in the world, and more often than not, electronic music is the soundtrack to many of the world’s biggest streamers. “All these artists are incredible, and they’ve done a great job. As a huge fan of these artists for years, it’s an amazing opportunity to collaborate on a project like this. There’s a lot of very bass heavy drop songs, a lot of powerful lyric songs, it’s a nice colorful album. You’ve got to have some fast paced, some slow, it’s perfect to match whatever vibe you are looking for,” notes Ninja. Astralwerks General Manager Toby Andrews added, “We’re so proud of the artists for wanting to be a part of such a forward-thinking idea, and ultimately for making some incredible music. It was a real pleasure to be able to help Tyler bring his vision of a gaming soundtrack to life with such a range of talent and we’re excited for everyone to be able to enjoy it and game away!” Listen to the full compilation below. 4. It’s truly been a dog day afternoon for Apple. The company has secured the rights to the late Charles M. Schulz’s iconic Peanuts brand, meaning Snoopy and the gang are headed to their forthcoming streaming platform. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple came out on top of “a highly competitive bidding situation,” ultimately flying away on the Red Barron to tell new stories and adventures beginning next year. The deal includes a partnership with Canadian-based kids programming giant, DHX, which nabbed a major stake in the Peanuts franchise back in 2017 and will help produce any of the forthcoming projects. One project includes original short-form STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) content that will see Snoopy suiting up as an astronaut and doing all kinds of cute interstellar things. Above all, they’ll be educational, which appears to be a priority for Apple, who earlier this year inked a deal with Sesame Workshop that will include multiple live-action and animated series. They’re not alone. HBO recently doubled-down on their contract with Sesame Street, Netflix has also been pushing for youth-oriented content, and Disney+ has, well, everything Disney at their disposal. Needless to say, Snoopy gives Apple just the right bark and bite. Back in 2015, the ol’ beagle wagged his tail through the box office with The Peanuts Movie, grabbing over $246 million worldwide. Not so bad, Chuck. Source
  5. Martin Garrix and Julian Jordan have been friends for a good while now and began making tracks together before the world knew either of their names. After the outstanding previous collabs “BFAM” and “Welcome” comes another fresh track in the shape of “Glitch” — a project they started working on six years ago and only recently decided to finish. And, thank god they did. “Glitch” is easily one of our favorite Garrix releases of 2018, in a year filled with great tracks like “Dreamer,” “Waiting For Tomorrow,” “High On Life,” and “Like I Do.” Centered around a massive melody, the track bleeds classic progressive house vibes that fans have been begging for from Garrix. “When we are in the studio together, we are just having fun,” explains Jordan of their working partnership. “It’s just like friends hanging out and watching videos.” The naturalness of the collaboration definitely comes through in the finished product, as this song is just pure fun from start to finish. Check out “Glitch” from Martin Garrix & Julian Jordan below, out now on STMPD RCRDS! This article was first published on Your EDM. 6. For years, there have been “Blurred Lines” between Robin Thicke’s viral track with Pharrell Williams & T.I., and Marvin Gaye’s classic single “Got to Give It Up.” Finally, a California federal judge has handed down the ruling in favor of Gaye’s estate. According to Judge John A. Kronstadt’s amended judgment, via Billboard, Thicke, Williams, and Williams’ More Water From Nazareth Publishing Inc. are jointly required to payout nearly 5 million dollars for deemed copyright infringement and excess damages. The exact total: $4,983,766.85. On top of everything, Gaye’s family will receive 50 percent of all “Blurred Lines” royalties moving forward. A representative for Williams described the verdict as “extremely disappointing,” and a “horrible precedent” to set for “music and creativity.” He went on to say, “Pharrell created ‘Blurred Lines’ from his heart, mind and soul and the song was not taken from anyone or anywhere else. We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter.” Apparently there are no “Blurred Lines” when it comes to copyright infringement. Still, it’s a bop. Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines ft. T.I. & Pharrell Source: Billboard This article was first published on Your EDM. 7. Tony Hawk has long established himself as a legend in the skateboarding world, and now one of his sons is looking to make his mark in the rock world. Riley Hawk fronts the band Warish, and they’ve just unveiled the lead single off their upcoming self-titled debut EP. The distortion-heavy song, “Fight”, which premiered earlier today at Brooklyn Vegan, is sludgy and punk-y at the same time, with an Iggy and the Stooges meets Misfits vibe, plus a bit of stoner rock and metal mixed in, as well. It’s actually a pretty darn good tune (listen below). Riley, 26, is also a professional skateboarder, and has appeared in a couple of his dad’s famous video games. He turned pro five years ago on his 21st birthday. The EP is due February 1st via Riding Easy Records, and contains five songs, all with one-word titles. Pre-orders are available at Warish’s Bandcamp page, while the cover artwork and tracklist can be seen below. Warish EP Artwork: Warish EP Tracklist: 01. Bones 02. Voices 03. Fight 04. Human 05. 8. Unomas is one of Miami’s most promising up and coming super producers and I am happy to be sharing his newly crafted sound and remix released by Ultra Records on Friday. Having release on massive labels like Spinnin Records and KnightVision (Warner), the young artist has a great looking future lying ahead of him which is becoming more apparent with each of his releases! His latest remix is one he did for dance pop legend Shaun Frank’s newest single “Bon Appetit,” featuring the thrilling voice and lyrics of YA-LE. The ripping bassline sounds insanely clean, adding the perfect touch of variety to the song and showing how strong UNOMAS’s remixing talents can be. The remix carries a tech and deep house infusion of styles from the start to end which is really fitting for what people are loving these days. I’m most excited to see it react well amongst DJs in a live setting. For more music from UNOMAS follow him on Spotify! This article was first published on Your EDM. 9. A flight from Miami to Los Angeles was delayed on Thursday after Lil Pump was booted from the plane and later arrested. The “Gucci Gang” rapper was booked on disorderly conduct charges following the incident, which stemmed from an accusation that he had weed in his luggage. TMZ reports that baggage handlers “smelled a strong odor of weed” coming from one of Pump’s bags. When the flight’s captain confronted the rapper, Pump found the his questioning “accusatory.” He and his manager were kicked off the plane for their contentious behavior, which reportedly bled into the terminal with TSA agents. Law enforcement officials later confirmed that there were no drugs in the bag — which, by the way, was claimed to be owned by a member of Pump’s crew and not the rapper himself. Courts records show that both Pump and his manager pled not guilty this morning. Last month, Pump saw a UK performance evacuated when someone tossed multiple smoke flares onstage. Recently, he teamed with Lil Uzi Vert on “Multi Millionaire” and released “Arms Around You”, a collaboration with Skrillex, Swae Lee, Maluma, and the late XXXTentacion. Source
  10. Last month, the L.A. rock band Threatin captivated the rock world’s attention for about a week, when virtually nobody attended the shows on their European tour, making it apparent that the band had manufactured a following that it didn’t really have. Now, frontman Jered Threatin, real name Jered Eames, has broken his silence in an interview with Rolling Stone. As a quick recap: Stories started to come out of Europe when Threatin played to empty venues on their “Breaking the World” tour, with it becoming apparent that Threatin had falsely inflated their Facebook and YouTube pages to make it seem like they had a big following, duping venue owners in Europe into booking the band. Soon video would emerge of Threatin playing to empty clubs, and ultimately, the musicians who Jered hired as his backing band started to tell their stories of how they were duped, as well. Until now, the only comment on the situation from Jered himself was a tweet that read, “What is Fake News? I turned an empty room into an international headline. If you are reading this, you are part of the illusion.” In the interview with Rolling Stone, Jered admits the whole thing was a “publicity stunt” but added “the music is very real.” He said he modeled his persona after rock “villains” like Marilyn Manson, Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne, and was inspired by the chameleon nature of David Bowie. “If you’re the hero, you’re going to get a quarter of the attention of the bad guy,” Jered explained. “A happy story lasts a day, but a tragedy is going to last a lifetime.” He also claimed to be a champion for rock music, saying, “Fuck what other people think. I’m willing to do what it takes to try to bring rock back into the spotlight.” He admitted to creating fake websites for a record label, a PR firm and a booking agency, as well as inflating the numbers of Threatin’s Facebook following. “The fact that people look at these numbers that are so easily fictionalized and hold them as any kind of merit — that shows a huge flaw in the music industry, as well,” declared Jered. As for his future, he plans to record another album and hit the road again, and turn the footage that his girlfriend shot on the ill-fated European tour into a documentary. The Rolling Stone feature also delves into Jered’s health problems (he apparently has coughed up large quantities of up blood on multiple occasions), his upbringing, and his estranged relationship with his musician brother, who was once his bandmate in a metal outfit called Saetith. 12. Acclaimed singer/songwriter drops heartfelt house-inflected pop release Will Champlin’s latest, “Picasso In My Pocket,” boasts soulfully soaring vocals, raw and emotional lyricism, and driving rhythms. Featuring an intriguing array of samples, organic instrumentation, and uplifting beats, the release is balanced out by its story. “Picasso In My Pocket” tells of a tragic conversation between potential lovers, revealing one is facing terminal illness. Though heart-wrenching, the track’s inspirational production carries the thematic heaviness to a safe and beautiful place. Will Champlin is a Los Angeles native whose destiny was clearly rooted in music. Having been born into a family of musicians, the artist naturally attended the Berklee College of Music and sought a career in the industry with wild success. Champlin has accumulated countless accolades, including – but not limited to – playing piano on Michael Jackson’s last record, co-writing One Direction’s “Wolves,” and his work on Heather Headley’s Audience of One earned him two Grammys. 13. Just last week, RL Grime treated us with 11 fresh remixes inspired by his sophomore album, NOVA. Now, he’s back for round two with 11 more remixes from some of the best in the game including Valentino Khan, QUIX, Blanke, Vincent and more. The NOVA remixes released last week come from already established and buzzing artists alike, and the Vol. 2 followup keeps with that same trend. Cozway, Default, Montell2099, Dabow, Alexander Lewis, Shadient & Wavedash and Heimanu have reimagined some of RL Grime’s best work yet. Our ears are particularly drawn to Blanke’s remix, one of Your EDM’s Artists to Watch for 2019. His hard-hitting rework of “Pressure” made waves earlier this year and it was so successful that he was asked to make it official. Now that it’s polished up, Blanke’s version of “Pressure” has never sounded better. Valentino Khan goes the extra mile with his take on “Pressure,” enlisting Anna Lunoe for some new vocals. Her voice guides the track into new territory and together they offer an evocative representation of the RL Grime production. It’s definitely another standout track on this release. Those are our main obsessions, but we’re barely scratching the surface. Track-after-track, this remix pack is well worth the listen. The list of interpreters also runs deep with Vol. 1, which features Said the Sky, k?d, 1788-L, MYRNE, Hex Cougar, Enschway, Part Native, AWAY, TYNAN, Eptic, and ODEA. Listen to Vol. 2 right below, and if you missed Vol. 1, play catch up here. 14. In 2015, Downton Abbey wrapped up its successful and adored six-season run. Over the course of some 50 episodes, the period drama series earned a whopping 69 Emmy nominations, making it the most nominated non-US TV show in Emmys history. The Crawley family story isn’t over yet, though, as Focus Pictures is bring back the historic estate and its beloved characters for a new feature film. Also titled Downtown Abbey, the movie is set to open in US theaters on September 20th, 2019 a week after its international debut. The film’s script was penned by Julian Fellowes, writer and creator of the TV series, while Michael Engler (30 Rock, Six Feet Under) was enlisted to direct. Along with the Crawley’s famed house, a number of original cast members from the TV show are set to return and reprise their roles: Hugh Bonneville (Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham), Elizabeth McGovern (Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham), Matthew Goode (Henry Talbot), Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary Crawley), Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith Crawley), and Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates). Fan favorite Maggie Smith, who plays the very posh matriarch Violet Crawley, is also on board. In anticipation of the film’s release, a short teaser trailer has been unveiled. It features footage from past seasons, namely scenes highlighting the grandeur of the Downton Abbey property — as well as a list of all your favorite returning characters. Watch below. Source
  15. The Kanye West vs. Drake beef has escalated severely over the past 24 hours… The conflict between the two A-List rappers runs deeper than probably any of us can imagine, but from what we can gather on Twitter it centers around Travis Scott‘s “Sicko Mode.” Kanye went one of his rants yesterday, calling out Drake for sneak dissing him on Travis Scott’s popular track. And, for dogging the Yeezy Boost 350s, which Kanye says is an attempt to take food out of his kids’ mouths. On top of it all, he says when Drake finally did hit him up to discuss — he was threatening. What makes matters even more complicated is that Kanye West is married to Kim Kardashian West, who happens to be Kylie Jenner’s sister. Well, Kylie Jenner is thought to be married to Travis Scott. (“People sold their souls. You gotta a number one record but you got it by letting this dude diss your brother in law,” Kanye wrote in a since-deleted tweet.) So, family Christmas is about to be pretty awkward. Kanye’s dialogue on his conflict with Drake becomes even more bizarre, as he brings 6ix9ine and XXXTentacion into the conversation. We’ve included just some of the tweets to give you an idea of what’s happening, but there are many more thoughts on his timeline. Apparently something serious is going on, because even Kim spoke up publicly on the matter. Read below. @drake Never threaten my husband or our family. 16. With intellectual property all the rage in Hollywood, not even Pixar has been immune to its treacherous grasp. In recent years, the studio has pumped out multiple sequels, what with 2013’s Monsters University, 2016’s Finding Dory, 2017’s Cars 3, and 2018’s The Incredibles 2. Even so, they’re still able to deliver original gems (see: 2015’s Inside Out and last year’s Coco) and that tradition continues into 2020 with Onward. This week, Disney properly announced the new film, which comes from Monsters University mastermind Dan Scanlon. While that news doesn’t necessarily leave us jumping for joy like one of their digital creations, the film’s cast of A-listers certainly does: Jurassic hunk Chris Pratt, Spider-Man himself Tom Holland, Emmy queen Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Oscar champ Octavia Spencer. (Ranking: Every Pixar Movie From Worst to Best) So far, little is known about the project, though, as The Playlist notes, the film was teased at last year’s D23 conference. Scanlon told the audience there that he was working on a movie tentatively titled, Suburban Fantasy World, which he described as “a story of two brothers working to find their missing father.” Pixar’s then-chief creative officer John Lasseter expanded on the project, saying, “This film takes place in a fantasy world, but a modern fantasy world. Magic used to exist, but it was too difficult to do. Unicorns are everywhere, they are basically rodents… In this world, the unicorns eat out of the trash like possums.” Yeah, that sounds about right. Of course, Pixar won’t have to put up too much smoke and mirrors to hide this project, seeing how next year sees the release of what is likely going to be their biggest sequel yet, Toy Story 4, which hits theaters on June 21st. Onward won’t drop until March 6th, 2020. Source
  17. Illenium took over New York City’s Terminal 5 for the beginning of a 3-night run at the venue, leading into a pair of shows in Chicago next weekend. While the Awake 2.0 set was as blisteringly beautiful as always, it wasn’t until Illenium’s speech at the end that perhaps the biggest cheer of the night was had. After introducing each of his cohorts on stage and taking a family photo, Illenium addressed the crowd, “Yo I got some news today that I’m not really supposed to tell anybody, but I really want to tell you. I’m coming back next year and playing Madison Square Garden.” This will be Illenium’s biggest solo show of his career at a venue that is sought after by pretty much every musical act in existence. 18. In Flames will return in 2019 with their 13th studio album, I, The Mask, out March 1st. To get fans pumped up for the release, the Swedish metallers have unleashed two new songs off the album, “(This Is Our) House” and “I Am Above,” and the latter comes with a music video featuring popular Swedish actor Martin Wallström (“Mr. Robot”). Check out both tunes below. In Flames brought some major names on board for I, The Mask, including industry staples Howard Benson for production, Chris Lord-Alge for mixing and Ted Jensen for mastering. Artist Blake Armstrong created the album’s artwork, which is an interpretation of In Flames’ mascot, The Jesterhead. In Flames vocalist Anders Fridén said in a statement, “This album is really a special one to us. Since our last record, Battles, we’ve established our own annual festival in Sweden and have been touring non-stop worldwide, creating an even stronger bond with our fans. You could say it was a big part of our inspiration for this album.” He added, “It’s been such a long journey that just keeps going and growing. We feel extremely thankful for that, and for the support that makes it possible. We dedicate our 13th album, I, The Mask, to our fans who allow us to keep making music and playing it every night. IN JESTERHEADS WE TRUST.” In Flames are already scheduled to hit the road on a North American tour with Within Temptation in February and March of 2019. 19. Today finds the highly anticipated and critically praised Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swinging into theaters. As is so often the case in Hollywood, before the opening weekend box office has even been counted, Sony is already looking towards the future of their animated Spider-Verse. In a new in depth profile on Sony’s outlook for future Spidey films, producer Amy Pascal told Vanity Fair about the studio’s plans for a sequel and a female-fronted spin-off. In both cases, it looks like Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider/Spider-Gwen (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) will lead the charge. Director Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and writer David Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984) are already onboard to spearhead the Into the Spider-Verse sequel, which Pascal said would focus on a romance between Stacy and Miles Morales/Spider-Man (Shameik Moore). Apparently, Phil Lord’s original Spider-Verse script included Stacy as a love interest, but producer Christine Steinberg pushed him in a different direction. “I will say that Christina kept us honest,” Lord said. “As five boys making a movie, it was really good to have another filmmaker there going, ‘I don’t think you guys want to do it like this.’” Like Spider-Verse, there’s already a comic book story for Callaham to work off of, as Brian Michael Bendis and Jason Latour’s 2016 story Sitting in a Tree focuses on a relationship building between Morales and Stacy. (Read: New York Comic Con 2018 Photo Gallery: Cosplay, Hellboy, Big Mouth, Boy Meets World) Also in development is a previously announced Spider-Women spin-off from writer Bek Smith. Spider-Gwen will again be the focus of this tale, along with Silk (aka Cindy Moon) and Jessica Drew (aka the original Spider-Woman). Said Pascal of the project, “I think it’s great that we’re going to be able to tell movies about female superheroes in this realm, and in the live-action realm as well, because I believe that there are going to be characters that really resonate for people. They’re funny and quirky and different, and heroic in all kinds of different ways that only animation allows you to do.” A live-action Silk movie is rumored to also be in development at Sony, while Avi Arad said of a possible Spider-Ham spin-off, “We want piggy.” There’s also that Morbius film starring Jared Leto, a Venom sequel, and it looks like Pascal hasn’t given up on Drew Goddard’s long-dormant Sinister Six movie. “I’m just waiting for Drew to be ready to direct it,” she said. “I would do anything with Drew Goddard. I’m just waiting for him to tell me he wants to do.” All of this would fit into Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, the result of Sony’s complicated licensing deal with Marvel for Spider-Man and his related stable of characters. Of course, it wouldn’t be as neatly connected as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Spider-Verse clearly opens the potential for multiple dimensions, and Pascal seems game to play in that sandbox. 20. Steve Aoki released his long-awaited Neon Future III album earlier this year, including his massive collaboration with KPop phenoms BTS, “Waste It On Me.” Starting last week with Slushii, remixes for the track began to drop. Today, Your EDM has the premiere of the new remix from Cheat Codes. Where the original is actually quite slow, Cheat Codes pumps up the energy and turns it into a true upbeat dance tune. Keeping the anthemic horns intact was a smart move – and not just because I absolutely love horns. The brass gives another level of depth to the mix that isn’t present with just the vocals and bass notes. Aside from the bump in energy, the remix really keeps the core of the original intact and switches it up just enough to give it some different flavor. Check out Cheat Codes’ remix of “Waste It On Me” by Steve Aoki below! And keep an eye out for Steve’s own remix on Christmas Day! Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. 21. Punk rock veterans Social Distortion recently completed a fall tour, and we caught up with frontman Mike Ness for an in-depth interview about the band’s upcoming album, and much more. But he also told us an entertaining side story about his memorable experiences with one of his biggest influences, fellow punk legends the Ramones. One of his fondest memories came at a time when Social D were just starting out, and he was a struggling young musician with very little money to his name. “The first [Ramones memory] that comes to mind is, like 1980, they played Orange County, where I live,” begins Ness. “They played at this f–kin’ rinky-dink ballroom, And we spent all our money on beer, and you’d get a stamp [at these shows], and security was just so stupid back then that we would just bring marking pens, and see what the stamp was, and I would either like mark it in or try to get an imprint off it.” He continues, “But that night, the Ramones were in the back [of the venue]. They had a mobile home, and they were up there with their leather jackets, doing some stretches and shit. And I walk up with my leather jacket — I got Budweiser cans stuffed in each pocket — and they’re walking into the venue, and I just walked right in with them, and the security guard just thought I was one of them because I had my leather jacket on. Yeah, we just had a knack for that, getting into shows free, getting backstage, drinking the band’s beer.” Later on, after Social Distortion found success, Ness got to know the Ramones, and was an eyewitness to not just their stage show but to the internal dysfunction that plagued the Ramones throughout their career. “In ’92, when we toured with them, that was a kick, because I watched them every night, and they’re doing these songs they’ve been playing for 20 years,” recalls Ness. “And Joey would sing just a little bit behind, and it was such a nice pocket. He would swim around the pocket. And I learned that from Neil Young, as well.” He adds, “But I would just watch the Ramones at dinnertime. I would make sure I got a good seat, because they would be eating and just like bickering amongst each other, like little children, and it was just like, ‘This is f–king awesome, man!’ They were like a comic-book strip that came to life. I was at the right place at the right time. Their tour manager is pulling his hair out of his head, saying, ‘What do I do with these f–kin’ monkeys?’ But Joey was such a sweet guy. Them and the Rolling Stones — Social D is somewhere in between those two bands.” As mentioned, Ness talked to us about a number of other topics, including the band’s upcoming album, his thoughts on President Trump, his friendship with Bruce Springsteen, and more. 23. Hot off the heels of the VOD release of her documentary MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A., Sri Lankan rapper/activist M.I.A. has shared a new music video for her previously unreleased track “Reload”. “Reload” featured in the credits of the doc, but is only now getting a full release. The video, directed by Elastica’s Justine Frischmann, sees M.I.A. and three backup dancers rapping defiantly to camera against a blood-red background. It’s not as crisp and assured as a modern-day video, presumably because the song and video themselves are more than a decade old. Per a press release, the video for “Reload” was crafted in 2004, around the time Frischmann collaberated with M.I.A. on the latter’s debut album, Galang. The whole video was shot on handheld video in Frischmann’s basement with M.I.A.’s dancer friends Rudy, Marsha, and Deborah. However long it took “Reload” to come to us, we’re glad that MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A. gave it the opportunity to be heard. M.I.A. may be quitting music for now due to “censorship,” but at least gems like these can drop in our laps every once in a while. Watch the crimson-coated music video for “Reload” below. MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A., directed by Steve Loveridge, is a comprehensive portrait of the M.I.A’s life, career and political activism. It’s currently available on digital platforms in the US, UK, and Canada, with more countries getting it next March. Check out the trailer below. Source
  24. Having already released a second album and a remix for Porter Robinson in 2018, Rezz continues on her path of midtempo domination with another stellar collaboration. This time calling upon the talents of Blanke, Rezz is out now with “Mixed Signals.” 2018 has seen a staggering rise in the number of midtempo productions released, much like the trap boom of 2012-2013 and future bass following that. “Mixed Signals” calls upon all the various styles of the genre that have taken hold this year and unleashes them in a melodic and glitched out fashion, in a way only Rezz and Blanke can. “Mixed Signals” differs from usual Rezz tracks in its core melody, which makes more use of harmonies and polyrhythms, likely stemming from the collaboration with Blanke. With these two together, the track enters another echelon of quality and it’s even more impressive to hear it dropped live. Check out “Mixed Signals” from Rezz and Blanke below!
