  1. One of the best scenes in The Shawshank Redemption is when Andy Dufresne and his jail pals get to go watch a movie one evening. It’s a priviledge for them, a moment where the prisoners feel alive — like human beings again. Needless to say, that won’t be the feeling for poacher-turned-prisoner David Berry Jr. A Missouri judge has sentenced the former hunter for an entire year in jail, where he’ll be forced every month to watch Walt Disney’s 1942 animated stroll through Bummerville, Bambi. You know, the depressing AF movie where the baby deer loses its mother to a sicko like Berry Jr. and has to then wander around the forest as a lonely orphan? As CNN reports, Berry Jr. was arrested, along with two members of his family, on August 31, 2016 for illegally killing a deer, taking only their heads and leaving their bodies to rot. “Berry Jr.’s convictions are the tip of a long list of illegal fish and game activity by him and other members of his family,” Lawrence County Conservation Agent Andy Barnes says of the nearly nine-month long investigation that now ties 14 Missouri residents to more than 230 charges across 11 counties. Whether all of these hunters will be required to watch Bambi remains to be seen, but as this writer can attest, that movie’s no walk in the woods. Seeing the re-release of that flick proved to be a very dark afternoon in 1988 for my parents, who were forced to deal with a screaming child that had no idea that Disney would ever make that left turn. Yes, Bambi is a dangerous thing my friend, it can kill a man… Source
  2. As we wind down 2018, we look back to the past twelve months of releases and think about the strongest of the pack, the ones who really made an impact and will be listened to again and again years from now down the road. We picked our Top 10 albums of 2018, and so far, we’ve revealed #5-10. The remaining four will be revealed over the course of this week, but let’s recap the ones that have been named so far. 10. The Glitch Mob – See Without Eyes Spanning eleven tracks, See Without Eyes exposes fans to supremely classic Glitch Mob vibes, courtesy of Boreta, Ooah and edIT. Not counting the singles that have already been released, the album is full of welcome surprises and familiar soundscapes. While it’s not an entirely different or updated Glitch Mob from the one we left in 2014, fans will no doubt be happy to add another batch of releases to their collection. 9. Rezz – Certain Kind Of Magic I’d say that Certain Kind Of Magic feels more cohesive and put together than her first album, and that’s only to be expected after receiving feedback and working harder than ever before. Having 13 and Kotek come back for the second album also gives it a sense of continuity that’s rather interesting, and additions of collaboration with not one, but two mystery producers – 1788-L and Deathpact – gives this album an intense air of mystery, as well. We’ve already spouted on about how much we love “H E X,” as has much of the EDM community as large, but other standouts on the album are “Teleportal” with Kotek and “Toxin” with Fytch. The latter actually happens to be our second favorite track on the whole album, as the combination of Fytch and Rezz is truly something of dreams. And since Rezz never plays out the drop in “Sirens Over Paris,” I feel like this is long overdue anyhow. 8. Golden Features – SECT SECT is a wholly cohesive project, one that works well with each track by itself, but even better as a whole. Each track, from the dark “Medicate” to the comparatively brighter “Falling Out,” works in tandem with each other, building up a foundation upon which the whole project can securely rest. 7. G Jones – The Ineffable Truth To say that an album is a journey is often a crutch, a buzzword that we use when we want to say that tracks flow into each other and maybe tell a story. Or perhaps it’s a way to connect with readers using a word they easily understand to offload some of the burden on us writers. But in the case of The Ineffable Truth, it’s no exaggeration or crutch. In a lot of ways, this is probably the most important bass music album of the decade. There are no crowd pleasers, no features, just pure unadulterated sound and creativity. 6. Getter – Visceral Where dubstep and riddim tend to play purely for the club, Visceral is a collection of songs that tell stories, stories of heartbreak, rejection, unhealthy relationships, struggles, and more. They’re not concepts new to music by any means, but Getter is certainly presenting them in a new context. He teams up with a number of featured artists on the album – Audio Opera, Allan Kingdom, nothing, nowhere., Sweetsound, Midoca, Name UL, Njomza, Party Nails and Joji, to name a few – in order to properly convey his thoughts and the result is nothing short of spectacular. 5. Zhu – RINGOS DESERT It’s hard to conceive a way in which ZHU could have created a more diverse and immersive experience within his own sound than what he did on this album. Each song is unmistakably ZHU, a result of a carefully crafted brand and soundscape that he’s developed ever since he dropped his remix of “Moves Like Ms. Jackson” four years ago. New to his sound are greater risks, more varied instrumentation, and a clearer sense of courage in the sound he chooses to present. This article was first published on Your EDM. 3. What do you get when Vini Vici, Blastoyz, and Jean Marie come together and collaborate? The answer is one electrifying single that goes by the name of “Gaia”, signed to Spinnin’ Records. Released today, “Gaia” is proven to be the perfect track to cap off 2018 in a thunderous fashion. Both Vici Vici and Blastoyz hail from Israel, making quite the name for themselves as they each have performed at the biggest festivals all over the world, and their music has amassed millions of streams. Jean Marie is no stranger to success either, as the Italian star has worked with everyone from Flo Rida to Snoop Dogg, and even Marta Sanchez. Additionally, he’s played best stages around the world including Space Ibiza and main stage at Ultra Miami and Ultra Europe. Together, these three artists created an absolute smash to cap off this year. “Gaia” was premiered by Vini Vici at Tomorrowland this past summer, mesmerizing the crowd with its hypnotic rhythms and a booming drop. “Gaia” is Psytrance at it’s finest, a single that is set to shake dance floors all around the world. 4. Over concern for his well-being, Pete Davidson was intentionally omitted from last weekend’s Saturday Night Live Christmas episode, according to Page Six. In the hours leading up the episode’s airing, the 25-year-old comedian posted a serious of worrisome messages to Instagram. Responding to Kanye West’s own social media comments about mental health, Davidson wrote, “Bravo Kanye West for standing up for yourself and speaking out against mental health. I can’t explain to you enough how difficult and scary it is to be honest about stuff like this. We need people like Kanye. No one should ever point fingers at you for your bravery in speaking about mental health. I’m seriously disgusted.” “I’m doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don’t know how much longer I can last,” Davidson added. “All I’ve ever tried to do was help people. Just remember I told you so.” He then wrote, “I really don’t want to be on this earth anymore,” before deleting his Instagram account. The posts prompted the NYPD to perform a welfare check on Davidson. Several other celebrities — including Davidson’s ex-fiancée, Ariana Grande — also offered their support on social media. Davidson was largely absent from the evening’s episode of SNL. He made only one live appearance to introduce Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson’s performance of “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” (He also appeared in a pre-taped sketch in which he impersonated Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek auditioning to be next year’s Oscars host.) The decision to keep Davidson off of the episode was intentional, according to Page Six, which reports that SNL head Lorne Michaels dropped Davidson’s sketches before the early evening rehearsals. “Lorne has pledged to help all he can, including sending Pete to get help,” a source told Page Six. “Everyone on the cast is hugely protective of him and were obviously upset — particularly Colin Jost and Michael Che on ‘Weekend Update.’” Davidson is expected to return to SNL when the show returns from its holiday break early next year. 5. It’s no secret Alyx Ander is from Miami and is one of the best at infusing this tropical inspiration in his music. The sounds he has crafted has truly put him in a league of his own. Alyx has had quite the year, remixing Armin Van Buuren, and now has been tapped again to deliver an up-lifting house re-work of Matoma’s “Sunday Morning” that is one you’ll want to keep on repeat all day long. Alyx Ander keeps some flare of the original and injects it with a blazing house groove brimming with a charged horn lead. It’s perfection. You can expect to see this one earn a lot of rotation throughout 2019. Listen to Alyx Ander’s remix to “Sunday Morning”! This article was first published on Your EDM. 6. Martin Garrix has been popping up all over social media in the most unexpected places, thanks to a new web series concept by GQ called “Actually Me.” The #1 DJ in the world recently went undercover on Twitter, Reddit, Instagram, YouTube and more to answer fan questions in a real, unfiltered way. For example, his self-made handle @ActuallyGarrix on Twitter might not be his official account, but it was actually him answering the following questions. Crazy… Happy……. Happy. I'm just always happy! — Martin Garrix (@ActuallyGarrix) December 6, 2018 I HAVE NO CLUE. I just make whatever music i wanna make. I don't even know what I'm making. Im just making Garrix music…. — Martin Garrix (@ActuallyGarrix) December 6, 2018 I have no idea! I think a Garrix / Chainsmokers song would be really aggressive. Because we both started in the club festival scene. So we could either do a radio friendly song with catchy melodies or a very aggressive festival club song. IDK we'll have to find out! — Martin Garrix (@ActuallyGarrix) December 6, 2018 I love @Pharrell …. such a sick voice, such a sick producer too. But also him as a human being. The energy he transmits to the people around him…. Its inspiring and I'm just curious and excited for the result that would come out of a studio session. Would be crazy!! — Martin Garrix (@ActuallyGarrix) December 6, 2018 With a mere 16 followers, compared to his 8.85 million following via @MartinGarrix, it’s probably hard for some fans to believe they were having an actual exchange with the global superstar. But, this is all the proof anyone will ever need. Watch as Martin Garrix opens up about a potential collab with The Chainsmokers, wanting to work with Pharrell, and so much more. 7. Dead men tell no tales…but there is one that has quite a bit to say with his music. I’m talking about Samuel Al-Hagal, known as Deadman, hailing from Nashville and just a filthy producer, who is the man behind this thunderous ‘Pirate’ EP. He made his debut earlier this year with the Howsla-esque single “Good In LA”, followed by “Up All Night”, and now caps the year off with a mighty EP he’s teased with much anticipation. It’s an impressive work that contains the electrifying drops we all love that dubstep has to offer, but brings so much more with intricate arrangement and sampling that truly set the Deadman apart from the others. Listen into “Terror Company” and how the bass sounds move, it’s incredible! With a fusion of cinematic themes, heavy bass, and a bit of a pirate’s curse, the Pirate EP is a dynamic journey that speaks for itself. Listen below and let us know what you think! 8. If you’ve ever been within a whiff of Sydney there’s a chance you’ve found yourself at a Motorik warehouse party over the years (including a take-over of a go-kart track for their 4th bday) or heard their brand of ad-hoc banter coupled with mountains of skuzzy techno through the airwaves at FBi Radio. In short, they’re a collective, label and group of friends who’ve kept the good times moving! Ahead of their headline set at the next FREE Stoney Roads party this Saturday at everyones favourite rave den Tokyo Sing Song in Newtown (with pals @ 42 Below), we picked the brains of the techno cohorts to find out just how they’ve not only navigated but flourished in a sometimes difficult scene. SR: As one of the more consistent party crews around, what do you think are the keys to a good party/Why have you lasted so long? MTK: Love the people at your party. They are your rave family. SR: How hard is it to find success as a music label that finds itself categorised as underground or away from the mainstream? MTK: Success is subjective. Our goal is to put out the music we love, which we do. That’s success to us, so what others categorise our music doesnt really come into it. SR: What does it mean to DJ as such a large crew (4 right?) How does it mix up what gets played and the vibe that gets thrown around? MTK: We all play pretty much off the cuff. so its always a fun time to see where we end up in terms of musical selection each time we play. SR: Having been around since before the lockouts, what do you think are some of the best ways to combat some of the (arguably) tougher nightlife? MTK: They say there are only 2 certainties in life; death and taxes. To that we would add the people’s will to party. That will is adaptable so make sure you’re putting on the funnest event you can and the right people will find you. SR: What have been a couple highlights from the Motorik party staple since inception?? MTK: There are really so many, but i would have to say the 2nd Birthday Rave and hosting Gesaffelstein and Brodinski at the Metro always rise to the top of the grand scale parties we’ve managed to pull off. So yep, if you’re inclined for a laborious slather of house and techno this Saturday alongside Lucy Cliche, Tori Levett and a heap more be sure to click ‘going’ on the Stoney Roads event page and snap up a FREE RSVP. Also, soak some vibes from when Brodinski and Gesaffelstein went b2b at Club 77 years ago for a Motorik jaunt below. Source

  12. At the end of a bizarre week in which Cannibal Corpse guitarist Pat O’Brien was arrested for burglary and assault on the same night his house burned down, the veteran death-metal musician was released from jail on Friday night (December 14th) after posting $50,000 bond. To go over it one more time, O’Brien allegedly entered a home in his neighborhood, knocking down one of the occupants before fleeing the dwelling. He apparently charged at officers with a knife when he was found behind a fence, and had to be tased in order to be detained. All the while, his own Northdale, Florida, house was up in flames, complete with ammunition and military-grade flamethrowers inside. He appeared before a judge last Tuesday in an anti-suicide vest and shackles, where he was ordered held on bond pending a drug test. According to a new report, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office released O’Brien at 9:01 p.m. Friday evening. According to a police document, he has officially been charged with “aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with deadly weapon, and burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault or battery.” A few days after the arrest, Cannibal Corpse drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz’s wife Deana started a crowdfunding campaign for O’Brien, stating, “Pat is a standup guy, true to his friends, family and his band. Also Pat does not have insurance, and lost everything that he owns.” Cannibal Corpse were announced as a support act on the next North American leg of Slayer’s farewell tour. The death-metal act is also slated to co-headline the 2019 Decibel Magazine Tour with Morbid Angel, but there’s no word yet on O’Brien’s status with the band. Source
  13. Reading like a scene out of a movie he himself directed, Quentin Tarantino confronted a pair of home invaders and forced them off his premises. According to TMZ, the director was staying in late Sunday evening when he heard two men inside his house in Los Angeles. Tarantino reportedly located the burglars and got them to leave the residence, although not before they made off with jewelry and other property. Law enforcement believe the suspects broke in through the back window, and are currently searching for neighborhood surveillance video that could help identify the culprits. Tarantino is thankfully safe and presumably back to work on his latest project Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a movie set around the Manson Family murders with an ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Burt Reynolds, Margot Robbie, Dakota Fanning, and many others. The film is set for release in August 2019. Source
  14. It’s that time again! Time for Ekali to drop the newest installment of his Awakening mix series, and this one is a doozy. (Not like the rest weren’t, but, you know…) He wouldn’t leave us out at the end of 2018 without something to remember him by, and we’ve got two unreleased tracks in here from the man himself to tide us over. Apart from some awesome Ekali original edits, there’s also an Ekali and Yookie ID, as well as the complete Ekali and 1788-L collaboration, “RUIN.” As far as we can tell, this is the first time the track title has been revealed for the collab that’s been teased for months now. It’s played out in full, and it’s absolutely wild. (Peep that at 37:30 in the mix.) Check out the full 48 minute mix below! 15. This past summer, Warped Tour said goodbye as a traveling festival after entertaining fans for 24 summers. However, when founder Kevin Lyman announced that 2018 would mark the last cross-country trek for Warped, he did leave the door open for the festival to live on in some capacity. Now, Lyman has revealed that three cities will stage Warped Tour festivals in 2019 to mark its 25th anniversary. In a Tweet posted today, Lyman wrote, “Plans are coming together for @VansWarpedTour 25th — only thing I can say for now since many need to hold vacations dates are June 8 Cleveland, June 29-30 eastcoast, July 20-21 westcoast.” Plans are coming together for @VansWarpedTour 25th only thing I can say for now since many need to hold vacations dates are June 8 Cleveland, June 29-30 eastcoast, July 20-21 westcoast. — KevinLyman (@KevinLyman) December 17, 2018 So, there it is: a one-day fest in Cleveland, and two-day festivals in unspecified cities on the East Coast and West Coast. Warped Tour started out as a celebration of all things punk rock, eventually welcoming emo, metalcore and other genres into the fold. It has helped break a lot of bands to wider audiences, and has also served as a first concert experience for thousands of young fans, influencing their musical tastes and fashion sense for years to come. As of now, there are now band lineups or other specifics, but we’ll keep you updated as more details are unveiled. Source
  16. Jump up and down, and move the hell away from the pyrotechnics. During a performance at Total Dance Fesztivál Cabrio in Budapest, Hungary back in May, late-90s one-hit-wonder Lou Bega didn’t take that advice. While singing his hit dance number “Mambo No. 5”, Bega looked down the barrel of a pyro launcher, clearly caught up in that growl he lets loose right after the chorus. As you can see in the video below, Bega took a ball of fire right to the face. He immediately grabbed his head, and though you can’t make it out in the clip, it’s hard to imagine his mustache wasn’t a little singed. Remarkably, Bega took the burn in stride, continuing to perform and finishing out the song. Check it out below, with the fire ball coming for Bega around the 3:10 mark. Source
  17. Any Fortnite fan will tell you that one of the game’s distinct pleasures is in dropping an emote on your enemies. Emotes, if you’re unaware, are dances that you can purchase and then perform in the midst of battle as a taunt or form of celebration. New lawsuits filed against Epic Games, however, allege that some of its real-life dances are rip-offs. New York rapper 2 Milly filed his suit earlier this month, saying that his own “Milly Rock” dance move is used in the game under the name “Swipe It”. His suit referenced Snoop Dogg and Scrubs star Donald Faison as other performers whose dances have been used without permission in the game. He also name-checked Alfonso Ribeiro, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star whose “Carlton Dance” is also allegedly used in the game. Now, perhaps taking a cue from 2 Milly, Ribeiro has filed his own lawsuit against Epic Games. (Read: The 25 Best Teens in TV History) Ribeiro hasn’t copyrighted the dance, though TMZ notes that he’s in the process of doing so, but he could still have a case. The Wall Street Journal quotes a Case Western Reserve University law professor, who says “courts can make their own determination as to whether or not a work is protected.” There’s plenty of money to be made if Ribeiro comes out on top here, as the “emotes” in question are sold within the game as microtransactions. As The Wall Street Journal notes, gamers spent roughly $78 billion on microtransactions in 2017. Considering the popularity of Fortnite, one can imagine the game’s microtransactions making up a big chunk of that number. Ribeiro’s dance is dubbed “Fresh” in Fortnite. Compare and contrast the two below. Source
  18. A lot of noise is being made about Woodstock’s 50th anniversary festival, rumored to be officially in place for 2019. A leaked pitch deck suggesting possible headliners and show details reveals that it would likely be way more than just a classic rock festival. And even without any officially confirmed details from organizers, artists are already throwing their hats into the ring. It’s no surprise that one of the festival’s original performers in 1969, Carlos Santana, would be more than ready to perform once again. Santana stated: “We’ve talked to [festival promoter] Michael Lang, but we don’t know if he has secured a place. If they invite me, I’m in.” Lang told the Poughkeepsie Journal that the festival wasn’t a “done deal” yet, but it was basically sealed. Lang co-creating the original Woodstock ’69 and two follow-ups in ’94 and ’99, but newer information says that the festival is not affiliated with Lang. Some artists reportedly being approached by the festival include Pearl Jam, Eminem, and Foo Fighters. The list goes on: Chance The Rapper, Pink, Lorde, The Weeknd, Coldplay, Kesha, Mumford and Sons, Lumineers, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Graham Nash, Neil Young, Phish, Joan Baez, Bon Jovi, Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Zac Brown Band, Florida Georgia Line, and Jason Aldean. None of these artists have made any official noise about the festival, but details are said to be coming soon. The festival is expected to take place August 16-18, 2019 at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (BWCA). This article was first published on Your EDM. 19. Killswitch Engage and Parkway Drive announced today that the two bands will be embarking on a co-headlining tour of the U.S. this coming spring. The metalcore acts have been sharing stages in Parkway Drive’s native Australia recently and they are looking forward to tearing up stages in the States on what they’ve dubbed the “Collapse The World Tour”. You can tickets here. “This co-headlining tour with Killswitch Engage is a landmark for Parkway Drive in North America,” said Parkway Drive vocalist Winston McCall in a statement. “Having smashed our way across the land for over a decade now, it is a humbling and defining moment to be sharing this slot with true heavy metal icons and personal heroes. We have always aimed to maintain the highest standard of energy, connection and entertainment at our shows, a standard that has been set and maintained by KSE their entire career. The concept of how epic this tour will be is mind blowing to me. Bring on the insanity!” Killswitch Engage singer Jesse Leach added, “After having the pleasure of destroying stages all over Australia with the Parkway guys just over a month ago, we couldn’t be more stoked to share the stage with them once again, this time in the States. Parkway Drive puts on an incredible live show and we are excited to combine forces and bring the energy every night to a town near you.” [Photo Gallery: Killswitch Engage play last show of 2018 in Sayreville, New Jersey] Through most of this two month tour, the bands will trade off closing the show from one night to the next, but their collective itinerary also includes some festival stops, including Houston’s So What?! Music Fest and the Ufest in Mesa, Arizona. They will also be joined on many of the dates by After the Burial. Tickets for many of the shows will go on sale this Friday at 10am local time. You can also get them here. Parkway Drive returns to the U.S. to continue their promotional work for their most recent album, Reverence. Released this past May, the record hit No. 1 on the album charts in Australia and landed in the top 10 of Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart. 20. Ariana Grande has been a defining presence of 2018, and also recently of BBC Radio 1. Multiple artists appearing on BBC’s Live Lounge have offered their own treatments of the pop star’s music in the last few weeks, including The 1975 and Mumford and Sons. The former turned “thank u, next” into something of a soul jam, while it’s better left unsaid what the latter did to “breathin”. Thankfully, Alessia Cara has offered her own take on “breathin” for Phil Taggart’s Chillest Show to supplant the Mumford cover from our memories. Cara’s rendition of the Sweetener single is lightweight and impassioned, dressed down with a piano accompaniment and a three-piece of backing vocalists. Cara also performed a sprightly version of her own “Trust My Lonely” – one of the Top 50 Songs of 2018 – from her recent sophomore album The Pains of Growing. You can watch both performances below. 21. “What you’re getting is the darkest and most nostalgic music I’ve ever released.” This isn’t a quote you’d expect from an EDM/Dance artist & producer. But after listening to his newest release DREAM, this description resonates. Slushii transports his listeners to an ambient state of being that feels reminiscent, reflective, and for lack of a better term, vibey. With official remixes for notable artists (Steve Aoki, Charlie Puth) under his belt, 21-year old producer Slushii releases an ethereal & diversified project titled DREAM that is the kind of album that defies genre. What brought Slushii to the spotlight originally were his left of center synth choices and these are showcased in DREAM. Since the songs are more down-tempo than his festival regulars, you really get to enjoy the nuances of sound and appreciate his genre-defying style of EDM. The stand-out tracks to me are “Find,” “i saw u in a dream,” and “WALLS.” DREAM was released on all digital platforms Friday, December 14th. 22. With Bohemian Rhapsody now the highest grossing music biopic ever, it’s only a matter of time before Hollywood starts rolling out more stories from music history. Next year alone will see the release of Rocketman, which will similarly paint a portrait of Sir Elton John. Two artists that may prove difficult to adapt, however, are Prince and Michael Jackson, at least according to Spike Lee. In a new interview with Consequence of Sound, the veteran filmmaker offered his two cents on the idea of adapting the two legends’ lives. “Not that I’ve been asked to do it,” he says, “But for me, I just can’t get past who’s gonna play Prince? Michael Jackson? I can’t. All I can do is documentaries. But a film? I just can’t get past who. Not to say, I mean, it could be an unknown…” Lee has already delivered two documentaries surrounding the King of Pop and he’s open to do more. “One day, you know, maybe, hopefully I’ll get to do a complete trilogy,” he says. “You know, the first one’s Bad 25, and then Off the Wall, maybe I’ll get to do Thriller.” As for The Purple One, Lee may need to wait awhile. After all, as we reported back in October, both director Ava DuVernay and Apple are currently at work on two separate documentaries that tell various parts of the late legend’s life. “I will tell you this, though,” he admits. “I don’t care what the critics say, fuck ’em—I love Bohemian Rhapsody. Rami Malek did his thing. I mean, I like that film a lot.” Currently, Lee is out promoting this year’s BlacKkKlansman, which recently picked up nominations at both the Golden Globes and SAG Awards with the Academy Awards in its sights. 23. Nardwuar vs. Lil Uzi Vert is one of the best things on the internet today. The rapper agreed to talk to the notorious video interviewer when he came knocking on his dressing room door in Vancouver. But things inevitably got a little weird once Nardwuar got into his groove. He should have known, doing thorough research and getting celebs extremely thoughtful and totally bizarre gifts is Nardwuar’s whole shtick. Lil Uzi Vert seemed to be comfortable with the first two gestures, but then the interview escalated. Lil Uzi Vert completely froze up when he received a poster of the Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects. “I’m glad I’m a good guy because if I was under investigation for something, I’d be scared right now,” he said. “How you know that? They don’t even know that. I don’t talk to them about that,” he hinted at his crew. “He know too much. I can’t do this.” In a flash, the rapper ran off to safety and escaped into a black SUV waiting outside the venue. This wasn’t before they had some more painfully awkward exchanges. There was a couple of times during the interview that Uzi alluded to being on ecstasy. This would have undoubtedly been an overwhelming come up for anyone to deal with. 24. Ace Frehley had a lot to talk about when he sat down to be interviewed for the podcast Juliet: Unexpected: his new album, Spaceman, the upcoming final tour of his former band, KISS, and his long career in the music business. But the headline coming out of the interview is the guitarist insisting that all Americans should support President Trump no matter what our political beliefs. “Whether you love him or hate him, if you’re an American and you’re a patriot, you should get behind your president,” Frehley said in the interview [transcribed by Blabbermouth]. “He was elected. We live under the Constitution of the United States, and you’re supposed to support your president. Love him or hate him, you’re supposed to support him, or go move to another country.” From the sounds of the rest of the conversation concerning our current administration, Frehley expressed that opinion begrudgingly. The 67-year-old musician doesn’t believe that music and politics should mix and that anyone in the entertainment business should keep their opinions on such matters to themselves. “I really frown on musicians who get up on a platform and start talking about the president or complain about,” he said. “I just don’t think it belongs. I’m an entertainer. There’s no reason to bring up politics. Let me play my guitar and write songs and entertain people. That’s my job.” Right now, Frehley’s job is promoting Spacemen. But because of his previous life as a founding member of KISS, the question of whether he will be participating in the band’s forthcoming farewell tour has been on the minds of many fans. According to Space Ace, it would take a lot to get him on stage with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley again. “The only way I would consider coming back is [if] I took over Tommy’s [Thayer] place,” Frehley said. “He took over my place; a character that I invented. He’s pretty much going through the motions, but the only way I would consider going back is to replace Tommy and regain my throne. Number two, I’d like a big paycheck because I think I deserve it.” Frehley also talked about his original departure from KISS in 1982, saying that it was his addictions to drugs and alcohol that led to the end of that tenure with the band. And he has the clarity of mind to realize that, in his words, he “put those guys through hell. I get it, but it took me a while to understand.” The guitarist just wrapped up a busy 2018 of touring with a date at the New Jersey KISS Expo, where he performed his 1978 solo album in its entirety. Frehley is already lining things up for next year with three West Coast dates on his calendar. More info and tickets for those shows can be found here. 25. Rammstein are starting to put the finishing touches on what will be their first album in nearly 10 years, and, in a new interview, guitarist Richard Kruspe tells us that the German band is eyeing an April release for what will be their seventh full-length studio effort. Kruspe checked in with Heavy Consequence from Los Angeles, where he was mixing the album. “Everything with Rammstein takes forever, because there are six people, plus an engineer and a producer, and we all have opinions about it. It’s just going very slow, and it’s very time consuming, and sometimes frustrating,” he explains. He continues, “Eventually, I think it’s going to be an album that has a certain kind of potential that Rammstein hasn’t achieved yet. For me, one of the reasons to step back into making records with Rammstein was to balance the popularity of the band as a live act with the actual music. With Rammstein, people tend to talk about the fire and all the live stuff. I thought, ‘I don’t want to be another KISS,’ where people talk about makeup and stuff like that and no one talks about the music.” Kruspe, who just released a new album with his side project, Emigrate, tells us of the upcoming Rammstein disc, “I wanted to do a record that stands out even more than our past records, and I kind of find when I listen to the [new] record, it’s like Rammstein 3D, if I can summarize it. We’re happy to work with my good friend Olsen Involtini, who also worked on Emigrate records. He a great friend of mine, and he brought certain kind of harmonies into the world of Rammstein, which I like.” “I’m so close to the project, it’s always hard to say,” the guitarist remarks regarding his own feelings about the album, and adds, “The next step is going to be what the fans will think about it. But I think that in the world of making records, it’s so important to please yourself first. It’s like, if you don’t like it, how can you expect other people to like it. I’m trying to bring the record into a dimension that Rammstein hasn’t achieved yet.” As for when it will be unleashed unto the world, Kruspe reveals, “We’re finishing up the last mixes, and it’s going to come out probably in April of 2019.” While fans wait for the new album, Rammstein will play a pair of shows to celebrate the new year in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on December 31st and January 2nd. They’ve also announced a European stadium tour that will kick off at the end of June. View their current itinerary here. Source
