Netflix today revealed details on its upcoming animated anthology series, Love, Death, and Robots. Created by David Fincher and Deadpool director Tim Miller, with Jennifer Miller and Josh Donen also on board as executive producers, the show consists of 18 short stories each ranging from five to 15 minutes in length. Each episode touches on a distinct topic – including “werewolf soldiers,” “alien spiders,” and “sentient dairy” – as well as feature its own film crews and art styles, ranging from 2D to photorealistic CGI. The series is aimed at adults and focuses on mature themes. Netflix promises that while some episodes will be more comedic and others tragic, all are “incredibly demented and unlike most animation out there.” In response to today’s announcement, Miller told The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m so fucking excited that the creative landscape has finally changed enough for adult-themed animation to become part of a larger cultural conversation.” Take a look at some of the artwork from the series below. Here’s a sample of what you can expect from Tim Miller’s (guy who did Deadpool) and David Fincher’s (guy who did Fight Club) animated anthology Love, Death, and Robots: WEREWOLF SOLDIERS ROBOTS GONE WILD SENTIENT DAIRY ALIEN SPIDERS BLOOD-THIRSTY DEMONS FROM HELL pic.twitter.com/obj5Dj5JRU — NX (@NXOnNetflix) January 7, 2019 Fincher’s previous project for Netflix was Mindhunter, which explored the methods employed by the FBI to get into the minds of serial killers. Ever since Denis Villeneuve announced his adaptation of Dune, the question has been how exactly he intends to pull it off. After all, legendary filmmakers have tried and failed over the years to bring Frank Herbert’s lengthy, fully realized sci-fi series to the big screen. Alejandro Jodorowsky spent years and untold thousands of dollars trying, a failed effort that led to a documentary. Only David Lynch succeeded, and some fans of the legendary filmmaker consider it his worst movie. Dune is the kind of project which tests the mettle of even the most ambitious filmmakers; fore his part, Villeneuve’s plan is to split the story into at least two movies filled with top-level talent. Already confirmed for the director’s follow-up to Blade Runner 2049 are Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson, with the former playing series protagonist Paul Atreides. Now, Villeneuve has enlisted his first 2049 alum for the movie, as Dave Bautista has joined the cast. Variety reports that the Guardians of the Galaxy star has signed on for Dune as another intergalactic pursuer of the spice — and with it, control of the universe. Adapting Dune will always be a great white whale for filmmakers, but if we have faith in any creative working today to pull it off, it’s Villeneuve. He has a vision of otherworldly interaction like no other director working today, and could bring the kind of jaw-dropping scale and human intrigue to Dune that any film version requires. Here’s hoping his cast is up to the task. Source

Marshmello already sticks out in a crowd — and now he’ll be impossible to miss on the streets of LA thanks to his brand new and ridiculously large truck. The 6×6 set of wheels, made especially by the Diesel Brothers, is captured in action in the video below. It’s hard to miss to say the very least, so Marshmello and his manager will be turning heads as they ride in style. “We delivered Marshmello and Moe Shalizi new 6×6 last week and it’s already prowling the streets of LA looking for Prius’s to eat,” Dave “Heavy D” Sparks jokes in a recent update on his Facebook page. “The truck is now over at RDB LA with my boy @rdbvik getting ready for a few more upgrades.” From the same guys who brought you Post Malone’s tricked out truck comes this beast of a ride. Horror isn’t just having a resurgence, it’s taken over. Blame it on nostalgia, chaotic times, or the fact that the genre is simply being appreciated by more and more visionaries, but spooky is in and spooky is what you’re getting. According to CNBC, horror films garnered more than a billion dollars at the box office in 2017, and those dollars hardly shifted last year, thanks to unstoppable blockbusters like A Quiet Place, Halloween, and, yes, The Nun. That momentum will certainly carry over into 2019 — and might very well ascend to new levels — as the current slate promises even more tricks and tricks for fans who love the macabre and all the things that go bump in the night. As you’ll see ahead, Oscar winner Jordan Peele is back, Stephen King’s renaissance continues, Ari Aster already has a followup to last year’s best film Hereditary, and some familiar IP is evolving to new media for the first time ever. So grab your flashlight, unwrap your calendar, and joiiiiiin ussssss. –Michael Roffman Editor-in-Chief __________________________________________________________ Us Us (Universal) Release: March 15th via Universal Why We’re Excited: When Us hits theaters in mid-March, it’ll have been just over two years since Jordan Peele made his directorial debut with Get Out and set the already-returning horror genre ablaze. For his follow-up, Peele follows a vacationing family (Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex) as their fun is suddenly and horrifically interrupted by a family of doppelgangers. Well, almost. The terrifying inversions of each family members soon begin to torture their matches, and surely audiences to boot. Peele ascended straight to the upper echelon of American filmmaking after one feature, so needless to say, we’re even more excited for this one. –Dominick Suzanne-Mayer Trailer: __________________________________________________________ Wounds Wounds (Annapurna) Release: March 29th via Annapurna Why We’re Excited: Back in 2016, Iranian filmmaker Babak Anvari sent chills through the genre with his feature film debut, Under the Shadow, which set a ghost story amid the Iran-Iraq War. It was a refreshing twist on the haunted house tale, insisting that there are still bones to be found in the ‘ol closet. Now he’s back with Wounds, an adaptation of Nathan Ballingrud’s 2015 novella The Visible Filth, which follows a New Orleans bartender whose life unravels after he picks up a phone left behind at his bar. It’s a decidedly more star-studded affair for Anvari, featuring Armie Hammer, Dakota Johnson, and Zazie Beetz, but it’s doubtful the big names will distract from the terror. After all, Ballingrud won the highly coveted Shirley Jackson Award for his novella, so we’re expecting to lose a little sleep over this one. –Michael Roffman __________________________________________________________ Pet Sematary Pet Sematary, Paramount Pictures Release: April 5th via Paramount Why We’re Excited: Thirty years later, Mary Lambert’s 1989 adaptation of Stephen King’s scariest novel to date remains a go-to midnight masterpiece. It’s cold, it’s timeless, and, above all, it’s faithful. So, we were admittedly weary when Paramount announced that they were heading back to the Micmac burial grounds. However, our trepidation immediately turned to hype when Starry Eyes directors Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer signed on. Their underrated 2014 thriller oozes with the kind of grotesque body horror that should propel King’s classic to another level. Having Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow around doesn’t hurt, either. Whether or not this adds another triumph or a rare hiccup to the latest King renaissance remains to be seen, but we’re feeling confident enough to bury our anxieties six feet under. –Michael Roffman Trailer: __________________________________________________________ Brightburn Brightburn (Sony) Release: May 24th via Sony Why We’re Excited: “What if a superhero decided they hated us?” Comics and other corners of popular culture have played this out for years, from Watchmen and Dr. Manhattan’s violent ennui to Justice League and its not-so-nice Superman. However, without any attachments to any well-known characters, Brightburn has a chance to take its terrifying premise quite a bit farther. Elizabeth Banks and David Denman play a couple who suddenly inherit a baby boy from another world, only to discover as he ages that his powers could be far more than an everyday couple could ever hope to handle. And while James Gunn isn’t directing or writing, his status as producer marks his return to Hollywood after being run out of Disney by his own bad Tweets and a horde of Twitter fascists. –Dominick Suzanne-Mayer Trailer: __________________________________________________________ Child’s Play Child’s Play (MGM) Release: June 21st via MGM Why We’re Excited: On one hand, it makes zero sense to remake Child’s Play. Series creator Don Mancini continues to keep knocking out sequels left and right — with original voice Brad Dourif, no less — maintaining a canon that’s rather remarkable when you look back and see how far they’ve come. But then there’s that other part of our brain that wonders, what might happen if the story was re-told for the 21st century and also starred Aubrey Plaza and arguably the most exciting actor of the last few years in Brian Tyree Henry. Sure, we’re still feeling mixed about it, but we’re also taking comfort in the knowledge that a) Mancini’s still out there doing his thing and b) the world will keep turning no matter how many people love or hate this movie. –Michael Roffman __________________________________________________________ Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Scary Stories To Tell In the Dark (illustration by Stephen Gammell) Release: August 9th via Lionsgate Why We’re Excited: It’s always funny how Alvin Schwartz’s ‘80s/early ‘90s trilogy of Scary Stories To Tell In the Dark books were considered kid-friendly, considering that if you were a kid who grew up during this time, or had siblings who did, you very likely had the absolute shit scared out of you by them. From Stephen Gammell’s terrifying illustrations to the deeply unsettling premises, the collections offered horror stories just comprehensible enough to a kid to make sure they wouldn’t sleep for weeks. Now director André Øvredal and Guillermo Del Toro (as co-writer with Dan and Kevin Hageman) will bring the collection to theaters, and very likely traumatize a whole new generation of kids. Can’t wait. —Dominick Suzanne-Mayer __________________________________________________________ Midsommar Hereditary (A24) Release: August 9th via A24 Why We’re Excited: Barely a year after Hereditary brought wildly divisive reactions out of horror audiences (and became this site’s top film of 2018), writer/director Ari Aster will return with his next horrifying vision of evil. This time, the film will reportedly follow “a couple that travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.” Details are scarce beyond that, but we’re already bracing ourselves for what promises to be one of the most unsettling films of the coming year. Shit, man. We’re not even over Hereditary yet. How’re we supposed to prepare for another one? –Dominick Suzanne-Mayer __________________________________________________________ It: Chapter Two It: Chapter Two (Warner Bros.) Release: September 6th via Warner Bros. Why We’re Excited: Everybody knew that It would be a blockbuster, but nobody could have predicted the Stephen King adaptation would become the highest-grossing film horror movie ever. That fact alone places a heavy emphasis on Chapter Two, as most moviegoers will undoubtedly return to see how the Losers’ Club handle Pennywise as adults. Warner Bros. spared no expense, either, casting Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, James McAvoy as Bill Denborough, Bill Hader as Richie Tozier, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, Andy Bean as Stan Uris, Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscomb, and Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon. It’s a healthy mix of big names, alternative heroes, and subtly familiar faces that add star power to an already powerful entity and help us forget that it was written by The Nun screenwriter Gary Dauberman. Prove us wrong, Gary. –Michael Roffman __________________________________________________________ Are You Afraid of the Dark? Are You Afraid of the Dark? (Paramount) Release: October 11th via Paramount Why We’re Excited: It was only a matter of time before someone brought Are You Afraid of the Dark? to the silver screen. That task has been handed down by Paramount to … whoa, deja vu … screenwriter Gary Dauberman! As we hinted at in the previous writeup for It: Chapter Two, we’re a little wary of Dauberman after he sent us into the grave with the incredibly dull blockbuster, The Nun. Having said that, his heart seems to be in the right place for this adaptation, as he wants to “honor the darker, scarier tone of the show” with a “completely original story”. Have no fear, the Midnight Society and the campfire will still factor into the film, though he contends: “Not every story the Midnight Society told ended with happily ever after or a person learning their lesson and it will never happen again. I really embraced that side of things and I think it’s been a long time.” We’re game. –Michael Roffman __________________________________________________________ Knives Out Rian Johnson (StarWars.com) Release: November 27th via Lionsgate Why We’re Excited: Okay, so we’re stretching “horror” just a bit on this one. Yet since Rian Johnson’s next feature (after The Last Jedi completely destroyed his career in Hollywood forever) is a supposed spin on murder mysteries, we’re figuring things will get plenty tense all the same. Plus, just look at this cast: Chris Evans, Daniel Craig, Lakeith Stanfield, Toni Collette, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Christopher Plummer, and more familiar faces still. And they’re all playing assassins. Yeah, this is gonna be a blast. –Dominick Suzanne-Mayer Source

Origins is our new music feature in which an artist peels back the curtain to reveal the inspirations behind their latest single. Sawyer Gebauer has spent many a night evaluating how his surroundings have impacted his creative process. It was his move to Sweden that led to him launching his first musical project, Brittsommar, at age 19. A move to Berlin and recording in a dilapidated warehouse led to the group’s album The Machine Stops. His return to the States, shacked up in a virtual Texas ghost town, led to him launching his solo project, Catch Prichard, with the Eskota EP. Now, he calls Oakland, California his home, and once again the new locale controlled the direction of his music. This time, it was actually a sense of stagnation in his new city that pushed him. The Bay Area left him feeling disjointed, needing to center his creativity in new ways. He turned towards learning piano, his spirit renewed by the challenge. With fresh skills at his disposal, Gebauer found himself recording at the foot of his bed, letting his misgivings about his environment pour out in the sanctuary of his bedroom. Perhaps ironically, the resulting effort, the Utter Disbelief EP, is perhaps best encapsulated on one of the few tracks recorded in a studio: “Going Crazy”. “‘Going Crazy'” dives into the floating anxiety and insecurities we as humans all share in our own ways,” Gebauer explains to Consequence of Sound. “Fear of self evaluation, how much we change, or how much we may stay away from it.” “I’m thinking that I’m thinking/ And going crazy on going crazy,” Gebauer sings, his shredded, husky voice like someone dragging the needle on a Nick Cave record. “Then I get that feeling/ Like someone’s tased me.” Mellotron notes hum darkly alongside padding electronic melodies that slide underneath the heavy vocalizations, the whole thing lifted into the gloaming by a soothing sax solo. It’s Catch Prichard reborn out of the struggles of relocation, as it ever has been in the past. Take a listen below. Utter Disbelief is out February 22nd. For more on the what made him realize he was “Going Crazy”, Gebauer has broken down the track’s Origins, beginning with a note for you, dear readers: “Songs and stories are the alchemy of people, places, and experiences. They are not flash points in time. Not a broad brush of the human condition so easily spoken and understood. Rather, they are days, months, and years of emotion, scenery, and learning, that inspire the finality of creating something tangible in the form of verse. I have listened to the melody, I have read the words, and I have sat at my piano trying to remember how it was to create this song for the very first time. I went on a late night walk and listened again. After a long restless ponder, it is safe to say I am still uncertain of the exact source of inspiration. Whether it was a response to something external, or sparked from within. Regardless, this is my attempt to return and dig for the memories and dreams that remain in my subconscious. So, as an ode to time, reflections, memory, and loss, let’s dedicate this Origins feature to just that. For you, CoS.” Fear: Moving to California threw me into the need to redefine. New home, new people, new work. The musical creativity was on idle because my internal energy was being burned. I was thrown into angst because the music was silent. The feeling of not having enough time. Not answering my call. Not living my purpose. Powering through the restlessness I discovered piano. Building it into my work along with guitar changed my formulation of songwriting. I wrote “Going Crazy” out of necessity. That feeling still follows me like a shadow at my heels. Lana Del Rey: I remember when we were in the studio mapping out how we were going to make this track and the overlying theme was, let’s make something Lana Del Rey would want a piece of. Someday. You can hear her influence in the sweet, lowdown beat that drives you forward. The drums and percussion are reminiscent of her Ultraviolence record. Bruce Springsteen – “Tougher Than the Rest”: This amazing song will always be close to my heart. There’s nothing better than a Springsteen synth part mixed with that huge kick and snare. You can hear us playing with that dynamic throughout the coming album, especially in “Going Crazy”. Rhye – “3 Days”: The song “3 Days” from Rhye’s album Woman was my top song during this time of internal burn. It was the anthem for my friend group. A lot of dancing to this song on repeat. This album sparked an expansion of my songwriting into a lighter field. Joep Beving: Teaching myself piano was critical because I couldn’t yet read music. The body of work that guided me was Joep Beving’s first album Solipsism. A long cold winter was spent with Joep at my side on my piano bench. We understood each other. I found his music when I needed it most. It has the soul and depth that I aspire to for my own music. Source

Benny Blanco and Calvin Harris have revealed a music video with a message to go with their hit song “I Found You.” Assisted by fresh vocals from Miguel, this new and stunning production now has a deeper story to go with it. This one takes a much, much different direction than the original music video that enlists a star-studded cast. As “I Found You” plays out, the subtitles tell of Nilda and her son Keyden. Their heart-wrenching journey is one of love and hardships, as they were chased out of their home and to the U.S. after gang members ran them out of town. Nilda and Keyden fled extreme violence in Honduras only to be separated and detained at the border. They survived family separation, but now are among more than one million applying for asylum or other legal relief, struggling to survive while they wait. This is their story. Back in August, drummer Brann Dailor told us that Mastodon would begin working on material for a new album in early 2019, but it looks like they got a head start after canceling their fall US tour. A new report suggests that the band will drop a new song as early as this month. According to Kerrang!, Mastodon are planning to release a new song prior to their tour of the UK and Europe, which kicks off January 14th in Belfast. Guitarist Bill Kelliher told the magazine that the track is “a basher” and “brutal,” and Dailor added, “It’s as heavy as I’ve heard us in a while.” Kerrang! also reports that Mastodon gathered in a studio in Atlanta last month to begin working on new material. The new song apparently includes guest vocals from Neurosis singer Scott Kelly, who has collaborated Mastodon several times in the past. When we spoke with Brann Dailor in the summer, he told us, “We’re always a work in progress, trying to figure out what we’re going to do next. We’re letting the ideas just come and setting them to the side for future work, and once in a while just sort of saying out loud what those ideas might be — whether they’re collected onstage when we’re doing soundcheck or if they are something that gets worked on backstage. You hear somebody noodling, and you’re like, ‘Oh, what’s that?’ Whenever the ears perk up to either [guitarists] Brent [Hinds] or Bill [Kelliher] doing something backstage, that’s always a nice little surprise. He added, “Once we get home, and we decompress from the Emperor of Sand tour cycle, sometime early next year, we’ll start dumping out the riffs and seeing what’s new and seeing what’s fresh and what we’re digging on, and then we’ll just start working — do what we normally do.” [See Also: Mastodon’s Brann Dailor Talks Dark Knight, New Album Plans, and More] Shortly after that interview, Mastodon canceled their fall tour with Dinosaur Jr. due to a “critical situation of a member of the Mastodon family.” It was soon revealed that their longtime manager, Nick John, was battling pancreatic cancer. In one of the most unexpected collaborative twists we’ve heard of, Boombox Cartel is cooking up something with DMX. The aggressive rapper thrived in the late 1990s / early 2000s, and the last time he released a full body of work was in 2012. There’s no telling what DMX sounds like in 2019, especially in the EDM realm, but hopefully he hasn’t lost his touch. 24HRS, who recently worked with RL Grime on NOVA, will also jump on the track. His sound is a sharp contrast from that of DMX, so the collab has potential to balance out nicely. Top it all off with Boombox Cartel’s signature trapped out style and there could be something here. While our minds are racing with what this might sound like, the wait is already almost over. Boombox has also revealed the collaboration is dropping later this month. Stay tuned. Festival season lineups are coming! Coachella dropped last week, Bottlerock just dropped this morning, Bonnaroo and Boston Calling are expected imminently. But aside from Bottlerock, Governors Ball in NYC also just dropped this morning, and it’s definitely an interesting collection of artists. Perhaps the most glaring comparison between the three major festival lineups out thus far is that no fair comparison can be made. Between Coachella, Bottlerock, and Govs Ball, the lineups are all wildly different. With regards specifically to Coachella and Govs Ball, there’s very little overlap. Aside from The 1975, Gesaffelstein, Sheck Wes, and a handful of others, it will be an entirely different musical experience. Tyler, The Creator, Florence + The Machine, and The Strokes will serve as headliners for the three-day festival. They’ll be supported by Lil Wayne, Brockhampton, Major Lazer, Zhu, Louis The Child, Kaytranada, and more. Governors Ball goes down May 31 to June 2 at Randall’s Island Park in NYC — tickets are available now. Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. After wrapping The Journey II tour across the nation and releasing his emotional Start Again EP, Seven Lions returns with a fresh new collaboration. The melodic dubstep champion joins forces with Wooli and Trivecta to create a galactic bass single that drips with passion. “Island” features endearing vocals by rising artist Nevve, and was released via Ophelia Records. Seven Lions + Wooli + Trivecta feat. Nevve “Island” Will Take You Through a Roller Coaster of Sensations. The song gently opens with Trivecta’s soft guitar melody and whisks of airy synths that float around Nevve’s lush verses. Nevve describes the temptation to connect with a lover who seems far gone in the relationship, however she’s not letting go. “But I know it’s not over Feel the static, I can feel you getting closer Send a flare to light the way, Way onto your island.” The verse rapidly grows with Trivecta’s trance-like build that crashes into a melodious wave. Once you hear that first drop you know it’s Seven Lions and his signature touch of bass-heavy euphoria. Soon after Wooli’s massive riddim-heavy wubs kick in to release havoc. “Island” is full of loops and turns to unveil an assortment of feeling and emotion you never knew you could embrace in a matter of four minutes. The thing that makes Seven Lions’ songs so memorable is this combination of dark, hard-hitting punches mixed with enchanting melodies that weave through metaphorical lyricism. Learn More About the Artists. Nevve been releasing music since 2015 and has been featured on tracks by 3LAU, Droeloe, Boombox Cartel, Manilla Killa and others. She is quickly becoming one of the most notorious vocal artists in electronic music industry. Trivecta jumped into the scene in 2014 when he released his first track through Monstercat. Three years later, he began touring with Illenium, Seven Lions, Tritonal, and Kill the Noise while becoming known for his melodic trance, bass, and drumstep music style. Hailing from New York, Wooli is marking his territory in the riddim and dubstep genre. His 2018 EP, Mammoth was released on Never Say Die Records. Wooli’s also dropped massive remixes for Seven Lions and Excision, and did a collaboration with Snails late last year. This isn’t the first time Wooli and Trivecta teamed up for a melodic bass track. Earlier in 2018, Wooli and Trivecta dropped “Falling” through Monstercat records. It’s amazing to see these guys reunite. Especially to see them collaborate with Seven Lions, who has been keeping this niche genre alive since 2010. Grab a copy or stream “Island” here. After the release of “Reset” in November 2018 and the subsequent announcement of his forthcoming album Hyperion, Gesaffelstein has been keeping fans wondering, “What’s next?” Well, after a proper high placement on the Coachella lineup that dropped last week, he’s back with a teaser for a new song with The Weeknd, “Lost In Fire.” The teaser is painfully short, only giving away 12 seconds of a melancholic synth chord; but, as with anything Gesaffelstein attaches his name to, the hype is palpable. With the release of the teaser, we can expect the full track to drop at least by this Friday, if not in the next day or two. Listen to the teaser for “Lost In Fire” below. The landscape of music is constantly shifting. Midtempo, which experienced such a fast rise in 2018, is already beginning to expose new producers and interesting ways of pushing the sound. Riddim, which experienced a scarily fast rise in 2017 akin to midtempo last year, is also undergoing such a change. There are only so many iterations of that sound you can make before fans start to become disinterested. Thankfully, producers are masters of their craft and have a necessity to innovate. In that spirit, we’re happy to premiere KRIMER’s “Crown,” out now on Never Say Die. The typical riddim sound is immediately identifiable, but there are heaps of small idiosyncrasies that keep it interesting. From the manic LFOs to the rising warning siren just barely audible in the background, it’s formulated to keep your attention – and it succeeds. The little melodic bridges also help to break up the heavy bass. All in all, I’m excited for the future of riddim and other bass sounds in 2019. If “Crown” by KRIMER is any indication, we have a lot to look forward to. Listen below and grab it here if you dig. This article was first published on Your EDM. Biopics, especially of the music variety, don’t get much more boilerplate and tepid than Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen Wikipedia entry that raked in oodles of cash late last year. Of course, not everyone feels that way, namely the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who bestowed upon the film a Golden Globe for the Best Picture – Drama. That win followed another win for star Rami Malek, who, god bless him, did his best to bring frontman Freddie Mercury to life with that stale script and those cartoonish fake teeth. It’s gotta be quite the surprise for Malek, however, as the Mr. Robot star nearly didn’t get the opportunity to take the role. For ages, Sacha Baron Cohen was set to star in a Queen biopic. That vision, unfortunately, fell through, as Baron Cohen’s creative vision clashed with those of the remaining members of Queen. Hilariously, Baron Cohen was there to witness the wins of both Malek and the film, as he was nominated in a separate category for his turn in Showtime’s What Is America?. Bohemian Rhapsody saw plenty of tumult during its production, what with original director (and alleged sexual abuser) Bryan Singer leaving the production for weird reasons. Dexter Fletcher, who is also directing the upcoming Elton John biopic Rocketman, took over following his departure. “Thank you to Freddie Mercury for giving me the joy of a lifetime,” Malek said during his acceptance speech. At tonight’s Golden Globes, Christian Bale won Best Actor in a Drama for his role as former vice president Dick Cheney in Adam McKay’s Vice. In his acceptance speech, Bale singled out Satan for “giving me inspiration on how to play this role.” The Church of Satan, a religious organization dedicated to Satanism as codified in The Satanic Bible, was quick to bask in Bale’s victory. “To us, Satan is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, and it serves as an external metaphorical projection of our highest personal potential,” the organization wrote. “As Mr. Bale’s own talent and skill won him the award, this is fitting. Hail Christian! Hail Satan!” When a Twitter user tweeted to The Church of Satan telling them “this is your moment,” they replied, “It’s always our moment.” To us, Satan is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, and it serves as an external metaphorical projection of our highest personal potential. As Mr. Bale's own talent and skill won him the award, this is fitting. Hail Christian! Lady Gaga’s epic, emotive “Shallow”, the standout track from 2018’s A Star Is Born, just won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Lady Gaga accepted the award alongside songwriters Anthony Rossomando, Andrew Wyatt, and Mark Ronson, who delivered a speech. “You took our heartfelt honest tune and you gave it emotional resonance we could’ve only dreamed of,” Ronson said to Gaga and director Bradley Cooper, who watched from the audience. He also offered thanks to Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real for their contributions to the song. “And, finally, to the captain of the S.S. Shallow,” he continued, looking to Gaga. “Because when you write a song with Lady Gaga, all you’re doing is making yourself into the best supporting cast you can be. The genius comes from you. It’s up there. You’re the one who let us into the deep waters and truly made the song what it is with your devastatingly beautiful performance as an actor and a singer.” After apologizing to mixer Tom Elmhirst for him having to mix “Shallow” “eighteen times,” Gaga offered thanks to Ronson, Wyatt, and Rossomando. “As a woman in music,” she said, “it is really hard to be taken seriously as a musician and as a songwriter.” A Star Is Born Mark Ronson and Lady Gaga’s acceptance speech. @ladygaga @MarkRonson @goldenglobes #BradleyCooper #LadyGaga #MarkRonson #AStarIsBorn #GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/96IJmIOvXj — Sophie Reddy (@sophie_the_1st) January 7, 2019 Source

Lifetime recently aired a multi-part docu-series called Surviving R. Kelly, which sheds light on the intricate systems of rules and accomplices that have allowed the R&B to get away with his alleged misconduct for two decades. The evidence in the series is damning, with many of Kelly’s former associates, including members of his inner circle, providing detailed accounts of the singer’s predatory behavior. According to TMZ, Kelly did not watch a single moment of Surviving R. Kelly, but is nonetheless “disgusted.” Kelly reportedly views the series as a “vendetta” against him by individuals who “hated him throughout his professional career.” He also claims to have never met several of the individuals featured in the series, while his own supporters were shut out from participating. Kelly plans to “sue everybody who had anything to do with this,” including Lifetime, the alleged survivors of his abuse, and John Legend, who condemned Kelly as a “serial child rapist.” (No word on whether Chance the Rapper, who recently rebuked Kelly, is also facing a legal threat.) Kelly’s lawyer previously claimed that the singer is in possession of two pieces of audio totaling five minutes that prove Lifetime knew “some of the girls are lying, but that the budget was too high to turn back now.” Source

It was house music heaven. When Jamie Jones and The Martinez Bros. are in town you can expect no less. However the three maestros of the four-on-floor had never been in L.A. in the same capacity as their recent evening at the Palladium. For seven straight hours Jamie and the Bros. displayed their unmatched selector skills, emitting an energy that engulfed the infamous Hollywood venue. The pleasure of this night of dancing went much farther than the mastery happening behind the decks, though. This event represented a turning point for Insomniac and Factory 93. Since the introduction of Factory 93, Insomniac has struggled to find a way to pay homage to raving’s underground roots while appeasing the city of Los Angeles. Frequenters of L.A.’s electronic music scene know that underground events are not exactly welcomed by city officials. Factory 93 originally set up shop in a large warehouse space in L.A.’s arts district where notorious house and techno DJ’s like Eric Prydz, Nicole Moudaber and Adam Beyer would play long into the night. Unfortunately, even with the support of Insomniac that warehouse was closed after less than 10 events. Minimal Effort, one of the pillars of L.A.’s house and techno scene was shut down mid-event on Halloween 2017 despite being under capacity and not extending hours past 2 a.m.. Luckily, Insomniac did not give up in the face of adversity, and the Palladium might just be the middle-ground everyone needs. If someone wants the pure, unadulterated underground experience complete with music blaring until sunrise there are more than enough options in Los Angeles. Insomniac’s goal is to provide a similar experience while appeasing the city and bringing in the type of talent that the aforementioned promoters simply can’t afford. With the Palladium they are able to do exactly that. Sure they have to close at 4 a.m., but having a chance to see Jamie Jones go back-to-back with the Martinez Brothers for seven hours is more than enough to suffice. Check out the photos from the epic night below! All photos credit to Troy Acevedo The post Jamie Jones And The Martinez Bros. Bring The Rave Back to LA [Photo Gallery] appeared first on EDM Maniac. James Blake fans can rejoice knowing there will be a new studio album from the overtly talented British producer this month that will feature a diverse whack of features that’ll please most. The news of the follow up LP ‘Assume Form’ set to land January 25th leaked when super fans on the indieheads subreddit saw an upload to the French Amazon site that included details on the release and even a tracklisting with features from Andre 3000, Travis Scott, Rosalia, Metro Boomin, Moses Sumney and more. While that might sound like some strange, strange collaborations they have all, to some effect been involved with James Blake over the years as noted by Complex; Blake’s choice of co-conspirators make sense. He has worked in André 3000’s orbit before, when he was all over Frank Ocean‘s Blond. The Travis connection came from his work on songs like “Stop Trying To Be God. ” Moses Sumney opened for Blake when he was last touring. While Blake hasn’t worked with Rosalia in an official capacity in the past, he is a huge fan. To say we’re excited would be an understatement! For now, dive into the tracklisting below and one of our favourite James Blake cuts of all time. 1. “Assume Form” 2. “Mile High” 3. “Tell Them” 4. “Into The Red” 5. “Barefoot In The Park” 6. “Can’t Believe The Way We Flow” 7. “Are You In Love?” 8. “Where’s The Catch?” 9. “I’ll Come Too” 10. “Power On” 11. “Don’t Miss It” 12. “Lullaby For My Insomniac” James Blake’s ‘Assume Form’ drops January 25th through Universal. Neil Young has paid tribute to his ex-wife Pegi Young, who died last week following a battle with cancer. “Thanks Pegi, for being such a wonderful mother to our children,” Neil wrote in a statement published to his Archives website. “You live inside of them and the many you have touched.” He also reported the lyrics to his Harvest Moon song “Such a Woman”, which was inspired by Pegi. You can listen to the track below. Pegi Young was working as a waitress near Neil Young’s Broken Arrow Ranch when the two first crossed paths. They were married in 1978 and went on to have two children together, Ben and Amber. However, after nearly 40 years of marriage and countless love songs dedicated to their relationship, Neil filed for divorce from Pegi in 2014. Source
