I'm just thinking alot of that could come under fair use or something similar. Would I be right or is it stricter than that?

Not my type of dubstep but the mixing sounded decent Just thought I'd add that in the 'boys like, girls like' tune, before you bring in ruffneck, it sounds crazy similar (imo) to some parts of this:

The only way analog could sound better than digital is if it's been recorded differently or if it's been compressed less than its digital counterpart (i.e to make it sounder louder for the consumer). And with vinyl comes the little pops and crackles, which while it might add to the atmosphere for us, its detrimental to the intended transparency. at the needing analog amps and speakers though, seeing as analog amps add coloration and every single speaker, headphone and earbud is analog.

First time playing out, to 30+ people at a mate's 16th No technical hiccups, some of my mixes were a bit off but nobody really noticed. All in all, not a bad night, especially when you get the ladies coming up to you at the end...

He uses a midi button pad to mix his noise together, can't really call it djing imo -
Alright, thanks for the guidance

Alright, anything better than the mixtrack pro under $300? Willing to go used

Says $100 plus shipping, probably wouldnt be heaps to sydney. Might hit him up once I actually get the funds together in one place.

I'm looking at getting my first controller on a budget and there's a Behringer BCD3000 on Ebay for $130, would it be worth it at this price? Or would it be better to save up for a Mixtrack Pro (which I can get for about $230)?
-
Beats are horrible for everything, dont do it. Beats Pros are decent but only worth about $130 real money. These dont look too good as well, as is generally the case with celebrity endorsed headphones. And dont take Cnet reviews on headphones seriously, especially when they compare them to Bose. I'd expect boomy, one note bass and muddy everything else.

I got Ultrasone HFI-580's, easy as hell to drive and emphasises bass without overpowering the rest of the frequencies.

Its all about dj wanka now

Sorry for the late reply here, had real-life issues to attend to. So I've been listening to a mixes everywhere on my iPod, and from what I hear some people don't start the incoming track on the start of the phrase, unless it's for a 'drop' style mix (where the crossfader just gets chucked over to the other side at a start of a phrase with nothing else done from what I can tell). I'd also like to add that most of the music I'll mix (save small house parties) will be deep dubstep, which is 8 bar phrases, but it's pretty simple to mix in that it's all focused on sub-bass. I haven't figured out the chorus/verse/etc on those types on tunes, but I have got it down in trance/house etc thanks to you guys

Anything anyone would like to criticise?

Had this going in the background. Not my sort of stuff, but whatever. Between 8 Bit Superhero and Everyday (which is an awesome track in it's own right) the transition was abrupt (?), it was just like you faded out track A and brought in Track B just before track A finished. I wasn't a fan of that, but I could see it's uses. Between Everyday and Internet Friends, that was pretty good, I liked that. It was quick and originally made me think it was a remix or something before I had a look at what track was playing.

Get some anti-war dub in ya Yeah for bass you'll need a good speaker set up w/ sub, or good headphones like denon ahd2000

Thanks for the quick responses guys, really appreciate it So would it be a good idea to have track A's chorus, and then an "inbetween" phrase (verse? I think someone up there said) for switching to track B, and then track B's chorus in the phrase after that? So, verse/intro (a) -> chorus (a) -> verse (a/b) -> chorus ( -> infinity and beyond? [Or larger gaps between choruses for tunes to get more time] This is just me getting a basic, flowing-ish mix down before I try anything too complicated.

I was wondering when I should start bringing in a track relative to the beginning of a phrase, so that I can switch over the basslines at the start of the next phrase or the one after. Is there a rule to follow here that makes it sound better or is it just dependant on the circumstances?

So I've been mixing tracks for a month and a bit now, and I figured I may as well sign up to a forum somewhere to help myself learn and practice. So here I am I don't really have any deck experience, the closest thing I've done was have a chuck-around on a controller which was pretty fun and will probably be my next purchase. Using VirtualDJ at the moment, my friend had a spare copy and didn't need it. I mainly listen to older, deeper dubstep (Skream, Digital Mystiks, Benga, Killawatt, Emalkay, Kode9, Distance, etc) and anything else really, from classical to gabber to jazz. I don't think there's anything else I need to mention, soooo I hope to get to know all of you better while I'm here
