  1. Eh, imo, I still think there's nothing really that unique about him. I will agree that he is getting better as an artist, though he still sings lame ass pop love songs. Who knows, he might blow everyone away with some absolute gems in the future. Haha, I was actually gonna mention Nicki Minaj in my last post. I didn't because I didn't think Bieber is as bad as Minaj. Imo, there's a lot of great current pop music. Lorde's "Pure Heroine", "Random Access Memories" by Daft Punk and "Plastic Beach" by Gorillaz are some of my favourite albums from this decade. I think you just gotta look deeper. Gorillaz, Lorde, Sam Smith, Lana Del Rey, Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco. There are some good pop artists that are also incredibly smart. Unfortunately, the likes Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus and such are what people like to talk about. Fun fact: "Anaconda" was written by 7 people.
  2. ^ Deadmau5 has always been a dick. Like I said, he's a drama queen. Always has been even before he was a mau5. I've enjoyed a bit of Bieber's work after listening to "All That Matters" a while ago back in 2013, I think. Still wouldn't say I love him but I've bought a couple of his singles post 2013. However, I still agree with Mau5 when it comes to pop music. Quincey Jones may have produced "Billie Jean" but Michael Jackson is still the star. He can sing, he can perform and he's incredibly unique as an artist. No one else could have made "Billie Jean" as unique as it is except for the king himself. But with JB, I honestly think you could replace him with another pop singer and there wouldn't be any difference.
  3. I was joking :'(( But this new layout was a bit jarring at first, tbh. Though that's probably to be expected. I'll probably get used to it in a few days
  4. GAH, THIS IS NEW. NEW THINGS INSTANTLY UPSET AND ANGER ME!
  5. I stopped using Facebook a while ago just to ease my mind of the bs that is social media. However, it is currently 4am and I literally can't sleep so I decided to scroll through Facebook just because I might as well torture myself some more. I came across this post where a company is currently selling 5 sample packs for $1. It sounded too good to be true but I literally just payed and downloaded it. It's totally legit. https://producerschoice.leadpages.co/5- ... -dollar-fb 8 days left as of 22 Dec 2015. They're actually not bad. Plus, it's only $1 so nothing to lose. Get it if you're looking for a bunch of extra samples!
  6. Thanks man! Yeah, I think I could've polished up the synths a little bit. Can't say I know how though ahah. Tbh, I was going for like a raw NES/chiptuned sound
  7. Thanks man, glad you dig it! You can download it for free but it's 320kbps mp3
  8. Hey everyone, Just uploaded a brand new track! "Crystal Gems" is a huge beat made with 8 bit chiptune synths. Check it out and tell me what you think
  9. ^Agreed. Deadmau5 has always been a bit of a drama queen imo but the points he made here are incredibly valid
  10. Daft Punk has always been pretty secretive about themselves. Not in a "We did something shady" kind a way but more of a "We only share about music stuff because everything else isn't really that important." I'll definitely look this up when I'm not lazy
  11. I'm so out of the loop, even when it comes to one of my favourite music duo of all time, I don't know what new stuff is coming from them them. Especially when it's something as interesting as a documentary about them. I'll have to find out more info about this.
  12. I'm talking about lyrics specifically. There's definitely a difference between lyrics and vocal melodies. Vocals could be nothing more than an ad-libbed "Heeeeeeeyyyy" from a singer. Lyrics are words strung together that can add meaning, depth or an emotional connection from the singer to the listener, literally poems that are sung
  13. Cheers for the reply, guys. The gist of it seems to be that it entirely depends on the genre and the song. Still, you guys have some standards when it comes to lyrics saying that it needs to at least be meaningful or beneficial to the song in one way or another. I agree with that a lot. It's just interesting because a lot of average joes who I talk to (similar to Kodiak's old housemate) say they can't listen to songs unless they have lyrics to it. I find that odd because they'd rather listen to a song that has average lyricism rather than listen to an instrumental song that either has a great performance (because it's made with instruments) or an electronic production that has a lot thought an care put into it. On the other hand, I don't really ask a lot from lyrics. Listen to songs like "One More Time" by Daft Punk or "Thriller" by Michael Jackson or "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley. Not the most complex songs, lyric wise, but they're very effective. They set a mood or atmosphere to the track and they're very easy to follow and sing along to (great for parties and events). Songs these days though (in the mainstream at least) just sort of try to tell a story but don't give context or try to emotionally connect to the audience. Plus, a lot of the performances mainstream artists give are very "meh".
  14. All songs. That's pretty much why I asked this question in a DJ/production forums, I know they have more patience for instrumentals compared to the average joe. That's pretty much me in a nutshell haha. I've only recently started totally paying attention to lyrics and dissecting them.
  15. Hey everyone! I'm planning to make a video about this in the future and would like to hear some opinions from you all. How important are lyrics in a song for you guys? I know this really depends on the genre and the artist's ability to write lyrics but I'm still curious about all your opinions. Personally, I could listen to an album a million times and I couldn't tell you what the lyrics are. I mean, I could tell you the overall message of the song and how the vocal melodies sound like. Honestly though, I'm too busy listening to the drums, the basslines, the synths, the guitars and everything in between to really care about the lyrics, especially if the lyrics are just meh. Still I'm interested, so tell me what you think
  16. Judging by that photo, you could just use a 1/4" to 1/8" cable and plug that into the 1/4" jack input (or 1/8" to Male XLR if that's what you want). If not, you could use the aux input from your DJ mixer and then route the mixer into the speaker if you want full control.
  17. Hey all, Just released a brand new track for your ears. West coaster gangster beats with futuristic sounds! Hope you all enjoy
  18. Thanks man! Your words are kind Nah, not Victoria the state haha. It's just a little throwback to a little area I grew up in back in Perth called Victoria Park.
  19. Hey folks, hope you had a good week! I just uploaded a brand new track called "Memories of Victoria". A chilled out Hip Hop track that sounds like winter in Suburbia! Check it out, tell me what you think
  20. Alright, I'll make tutorials on how to make sik basslines! Thanks man, tell me what you think c:
  21. I made a video of me making music while I ramble about stupid stuff. It's not a tutorial or whatever. I basically made this video just to add more content for my Youtube channel. I would like to make tutorials in the future tho (sorry Labrat ) Tell me what you think. Maybe some pointers on how I could improve on production quality or how I speak.
  22. Holy poop, this looks rad as fuck. I'm having a hard enough time looking for a store that sells decent CD albums in my area but you guys have a record store on wheels. This sucks
  23. If you're just looking for a simple one that still works well, I personally recommend the PreSonus Audiobox iOne. Quite a cheap little box, connects straight to the computer via USB. 1 xlr input + phantom power and one 1/4" input. Also allows direct monitoring while recording. I also think you can connect it straight to an iPad but I've never tried that.
  24. Hey folks, made a new tune "Langkawi" is a chilled out Electronic Hip Hop tune that sounds like beaches in the summer! Check it out and tell me what you think
  25. Man, these pictures make me excited and jealous at the same time hahaha
