  1. The Todd Terje worked with the first track perfectly. I recognize the first one too but I can't remember what it is. Sounds like the mix is right up my alley. Gonna keep listening! edit: ah, it worked so perfectly because the whole thing is just a different version of Snooze 4 Love
  2. So RA gave this a pretty flattering review: I really like it--particularly the middle section. When I spun it at my gf's birthday party it was great. It's not much like anything else I spin but it fits into my tempo range so it was a good way to get people interested in the rest of my music. Anyone else reppin' it?
  3. The original mix sounds great actually. I wish the free DL was a WAV but it won't be so I'm not gonna bother.
  4. Thanks for the advice all. Today I found out in the news that college/university students in Ontario are going to be getting a big tuition rebate, which means I'll be able to up the budget! especially if I take on some austerity measures and quit smoking, too How much would I be looking at for a mixer? Would you recommend getting that used as well?
  5. Hey guys, Like I said in my intro thread, I'm looking to upgrade from my CDJ200s. I want something that I won't need to step up from (unless I somehow start making thousands of dollars as a DJ) or replace (God forbid). My 200s are old and dysfunctional but aside from their technical drawbacks--which I've dealt with since I've owned them--they've been totally reliable. It's made me trust Pioneer to a point where I'm pretty set on moving up in the CDJ line, but if there's anything just as reliable yet more affordable I'd love to know. My student budget requires them to be used. Based on my own noobish browsing I'm leaning toward the 850s in particular. The lesser CDJs don't seem like a enough of a step up, and the price of the higher-end ones puts them way out of reach. I like the Rekordbox and the big jog wheel and the aesthetic; and although MIDI doesn't matter to me right now, I don't know anything about the future. I know the 850s are newer models which means that used ones are probably harder to find--this is something to consider since I'm itching for upgrade! Is there a way in hell I could find two, good condition 850s for like $1000? Or is there anything of a similar calibre in that range? I think the Canadian and Australian dollar are pretty much on par. I need a new mixer, too, but that purchase will have to wait unless I can find a sick package deal. If I could get the CDJs for $1000 it would happen a lot sooner. Thanks in advance!
  6. I'm a citizen of the internet. You're the first website on an alphabetical list of dj-related forums. It seemed good and active so I signed up without bothering to check out any of the others. Thanks for all the nice hullows

  8. Hi everyone, here's my abridged story: got into a bit of EDM in high school, went to WEMF in '08 and discovered parties, then moved to Toronto for university and discovered a party scene! I haven't been properly acquainted with any other cities but Toronto seems pretty great. A little less than two years ago I bought some beater CDJ200s from a local semi-legend (psytrance isn't so popular) that are probably ten years old now, with only one of the jog wheels being properly functional and with the sparkly silver paint coming off both. My mixer is also the absolute bare minimum of functionality--I got it for $50 from a friend that'd decided it was too shit to keep. Aside from all that, I've recently spun at a couple of friends' parties and it went down surprisingly well which has made me consider taking DJing more seriously, since I already love it so much. I'm a music lover in general, too. To be honest, the main reason I'm here is for some upgrade advice, but I also figure I'll be lurking and maybe posting a bit so I can learn more technical stuff about the trade.
