DJBigKev's Achievements

  1. charge her travelling time to compensate the 4 or 5 hours from dapto then the 4 to 5 return trip home plus fuel costs, theres DJ's around Moruya and bega in the yellow pages.
  2. you can buy then direct from the chinese factories for $89.00 each then add on shipping costs to Aus. check out http://www.made-in-china.com/
  3. i wonder if you change the name to a convention or seminar, that way we can claim it as a tax deduction
  4. This months X Mix has a great remix of one direction with a big thumping beat, alot better than whats on itunes.
  5. theres 2 reasons people advertise on sites like gumtree etc. 1. its FREE and anything thats FREE is a good price. 2. Google trawls sites like gumtree, facebook, twitter etc and if ou have your web address listed it will help push up your own website rankings when people do web searches. and for the sake $20 of material go into spotlight and buy some Black material, wide enough so it reaches from the table to the floor and long enough it will cover the front and sides. Youll look alot more professional and hide those ugly cables that you dont want some kid touching. Also vistaprint will make up a nice vynal Banner for around $30. another great way to promote yourself at gigs.
  6. The more and more posts I read on these forums lets me to believe this site is for bedroom DJ's who wanna undercut just to get a job. you will need to register your business name Asic is now the place to register that for all states in Australia. ABN is free Business cards from vistaprint usually $5 for 250 web domain name $7 for a .com web hosting $65 a year It doesnt cost much to not be classed as a cowboy
  7. if you're charging $200 a gig, then thats all you'll be worth. and people that book you in the future will say hey you did my friends party for $200. if moby disc are charging $400 then thats the min you newbies should charge, but people are not going to take you serious if you dont charge much. People are always out to get a bargain. You should also ask yourself how much money you've invested in your equipment & time. plus ongoing cost CD's, fuel to the gig, repairs etc etc
  8. even Mobydisc charges more than that, you should be charging min $100 an hour + traveling time plus time you spend meeting with the clients. remember a 5 gig works out to be 9+ hours when you add up time for loading up, driving to, unloading and seting up, time to pack up at the end of the night, drive back home and then unload. and thats no including time you spend meeting with them, on the phone, time chasing up those special songs the bride wants. I've seen MC's charge more than $350 Weddings is a specialised Job
  9. Sounds like it might have been a powder - fire extinguisher ? if so you need to clean that stuff up real quick. 1. check the in built amp (another reason to have separate amp / speakers) 2. Lets hope you had a contract for that party and if so then recover your costs, if not then you've learnt a very valuable lession, Always have a contract for your bookings. 3. is your equipment insured?
  10. Think that would be very hard to dance to Tayownzu, might be an idea to learn music theory or what parts make up a song/dance tune. have a play with "garage band" and you'll be knocking out half decent tunes within an hour.
  11. I'd recommend you have separate speakers to the amp, that way if anything goes wrong with the amp you don't lose out totally and the amp is purposely built with proper ventilation and fans, also running long input cables to powered speakers can pick up noise / hum. I use Etone 18" and they thump out the sound, when I did large Blue Light Disco's I've used 4, 2 stacked each side but thats for very large halls and over 1000 kids. For an Amp i'd recommend Jands built like a tank. If you get into trouble maybe I can Hire some of My gear to you.
  12. Hi Djjon, If you're going to be operating in Australia then yes you need to register your business name usually with the state you live in and operate from contact the states department of fair trading, if you have a Pty Ltd company then see asic, however registering a business name gives you little rights as to that name. But wat you can do is register your name also as a "trademark" and that stops anyone in Australia using the same name, see IP australia for details on trademarks and patents. hope this helps
  13. Having worked at a strip club before playing the music for the whores, heres 2 favourites I used for when they got in the shower, "Sex on the Beach" and "Splish Splash" used to get them all going wild and crazy. Cupes has a pretty good list
  14. I guess the answer to this question russell is this, newspapers, trading post paper & online, gumtree and trade magazine to name but a few all have a "wanted to buy" section it also makes it convienent
  15. Hey guys looking through some of the AD's in the gear for sale I am just wondering why there isn't a heading called "Wanted To Buy" there seems to be a lot of WTB ads imersed throughout the sale ads that I think it needs its own heading/forum. thanks DJBigKev
