  1. waaaaaaaaaaaait a minute. What kind of digital out are we talking here? do you mean an optical port, or an RCA looking port that is called 'digital' ?
  2. I actually wrote about 900 words worth of an instruction set into how to do it, then I remembered this little book http://www.mediafire.com/view/?62pj6vb3r14bi61 it includes a very quick run down on disassembly (which I can follow up with a more detailed write up including pics if anyone is interested), has circuit diagrams and replacement part numbers. VERY useful for any 1200 owner, as the mk2,3 and 5's only have very minor differences.
  3. well since you are in perth you should sell the old ones to me for like $100 each because they are so beat up, right?
  4. I started writing it, I think I have it saved on my desktop at home somewhere...
  5. as long as the tone arm isn't bent & hasn't had the bearings played with (& still tracks good) then there isn't a great benefit to getting mk5's. Internally, they are almost exactly the same as mk2's. If you are handy with a soldering iron then you can even mod mk2's to have the same features as the mk5. If all you are worried about is built up grunge, I'll put up a 'how to dissasemble your turntable 100% and clean all the things' thread some point in the near future. If you're worried about paint coming off etc then dissasemble & take the top aluminium bit to a car detailing place and give them $50 to powder coat it in your colour of choice. nek minit, brand new flash looking techs
  6. Just out of interest, why would you want mk5's?
  7. FWIW: changing the power supply internally is a serious WHALE and half, you are better off getting transformers to plug in between the wall and the turntable. I am also pretty surprised they didn't sell in a snap. List them individually on eBay maybe?
  8. look at scratch loopers, there are surely tons of them around by now
  9. Which is fine as long as your not calling it '50 cent vs justin beiber - in da baby (CAP 5 SUPER ULTRA REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMIX)' and claiming the track as your own (which would be the point in getting popular from mashups, surely). Funkymixes did a ton of vinyl release mashups iirc, could be worth looking into the history of those?
  10. 90% of artists music isn't owned by them, meaning you don't have to ask them, you have to ask the owners. When a track is signed to a label, it is the property of the label to do with what they want. For your purposes, this works in your favour, because most big labels have H&R departments that deal with this sort of thing daily. But it all comes down to the track and what publishing rights are in place for each tune. It's a WHALE of a thing to deal with, and if you were signed you can usually just ask your label rep to get clearances for you..
