Beats by dr.dre Over-ear headphones for DJing?
MintyCondition replied to Jarrah's topic in Accessories etc.
Beat's are so overrated, they are like a bloody fashion accessory for guys... and more or less girls too... I personally strongly dislike these headphones and find the both uncomfortable and too mainstream to even buy them. -
You can make an amateur strobe light following my tutorial here :http://www.ausdjforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=7753 If you want something way more serous, ask around on electronics forums such as http://www.eevblog.com/forum or try going to shops like Middys or Jaycar and asking them for tips and they will help you and if you are lucky they may even draw you the whole schematic. Good luck bro.

Nero - Promises, even though I'm not much of a dubstep kid.

Well I might start posting video's like that if that's what you are asking. I've had a decently successfully YouTube account back a few years ago, so I got the experience, but my gear might be a bit out of date.

Nice post, thanks!

Strobe light tutorial by Minty Condition. (Original comes from the website: http://www.kripkrap.ru/home/svetyashhijsya-korob however it is in Russian so I will make an English tutorial here) Difficulty: Novice! Hello, and welcome onto the tutorial on how to make your own strobe light... in a box (optional)! Preview of the finished product: You will need the following: A little bit of electronic knowledge A soldering iron Solder Audio splitter 9V battery adapter and battery 3.5mm cable from the headphone Transistor KT817 (same or similar type(I got mine at JayCar)) 3pcs of 5 mm LED (color and amount may choose to your taste, but the voltage requirements vary with each choice so be sure to check before you use. This tutorial uses Blue LED's which require 3V to operate) The following is the optional box materials: Plexiglass acrylic Fine sandpaper Electric wire Hot glue or similar Now for the build of the product (skip to step 7. if you do not want to build the box) 1. Rule out your box on the plexiglass, make your own dimensions or follow the guide: 4pcs of 15cm x 5cm and 2pcs of 5cm x 5cm. 2. Cut out all the pieces. 3. Make two holes about 5mm or so in one of the bigger pieces. 4. (optional) Sand paper each of the pieces until you get a a non-see-through look, and do the same to the LED's for maximum effect. 5. Stick your box together using normal tape and then glue all the pieces together (don't forget to remove the tape prior to adding glue, I suggest glue the edges first and go from there). 6. Place the power and 3.5mm cord end into the box through the two holes that we made and secure them with more glue! 7. Prior to soldering don't forget to strip all of the wires and tin them! Now solder all the components together like shown and (optional) add heat shrink: Please note that the voltage here for our build should be 9V (shown as 12V) and 3 LED's (shown as 4) Be sure to check all your soldering jobs before continuing and try plugging in everything and checking if it works. 8. Now secure the whole box, plug everything in, play your music and you get a fantastic amateur strobe light! Trouble shooting: Volume matters, the higher the volume, the more sensitive or weaker the light. Be sure to check all your soldering jobs. Make sure none of the components are touching. You may be wondering why there is no sound when the light works, that because it has no speakers! This is where the audio splitter cable comes in, using ipod as an example, connect the audio splitter to the iPod and connect speakers or headphones to one side and the light to other side. Tips: Add some tape. heatshrink or bend the LED's to be sure that they don't contact each other and short circuit and you could also do the same with all the other wires. Speak to somebody at JayCar or similar stores and they will help you out. Modding: Add more LED's, but be sure to add extra 3V with every LED added. You may also like to add a switch somewhere in the circuit so that you can turn it off when not in use. Thanks for reading! Credits go to http://www.kripkrap.ru

Ay fellas. I want some criticism on my mix (really a beat matching practice). It's rather long, but can should just quickly run through it. I'd appreciate it if you listen to it and gave me some feedback Thanks! http://soundcloud.com/mintycondition/bedroom-dj-8 :hurr: -
Thanks guys, just a few words of praise: AMAZING COMMUNITY . I was on another DJ forum a few months ago, forgot the name, but they were so mean, they closed down my thread because it was in the wrong section... And also told me rather rudely to go and search the forum first before making new threads , and the joke is that there is no visible search button on their page. RIDICULOUS!

Could you maybe suggest some good songs to practice with. Also I already knew how dance songs were structured, but thanks for the link anyway! -
how did you create your dj name?
MintyCondition replied to Suby's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
Minty Condition. Spent a few hours walking around places or just going onto the net. In the end I got bored and decided to go search some decks on ebay, when I came across the description "Mint Condition". I thought Mint sounds pretty cool, but Minty would be better, however that was already taken so I decided to stay with Minty Condition. -

Hey fellas, I know that another member posted a thread with the same topic, but I felt like that one died. Sorry if I'm wrong. Anyways, I've been trying to beat match and it hasn't been working out very well, everytime I do it with the same song it sounds decent, but when I try beat matching different songs all I get is just noise (mind you, it's not music!) and I get really frustrated! I just need a bit more help with this. Maybe some songs that are good to practice with... I haven't found anything online that sounds good together. Also I don't understand how do I find out which way the pitch control goes and what percentage to leave it at! I've tried looking at ellaskins and Sarah Main on YouTube, but they aren't much help to me. Anything else that I could try. -Cheers! -
Bro, you need to get bored more often!

Ohh my bad. I just see a lot of people having music as mp3 even if they buy online... Whoops

Hey guys, beginner DJ from Melbourne here. First week DJing and loving it already! Been attempting to get my hands on some DJ gear for the past year, with a really tight budget (300$). Decided to go for the Audioline MDEX3. Great decks, I don't care what people say about them, they are just fantastic for beginners. Great forums had a look at them and signed up almost straight away!

I reckon it's all about how you prefer your music. The two are similar, but at the same time different. Try going to DJ stores and test some of the equipment out and see what you like best. It's all up to you! I chose to be a CDJ because I prefer CD music quality over PC mp3 quality and because the CDJ have more of a feel to them, but that is completely your choice.

You should really check out ellaskins on YouTube. He's also known as the DJ Tutor, great tutorials on just about anything. As far as beat matching goes, check these two video's out:

Hey Fellas, I just started DJing and I'm loving it! Except there is one small problem, I realize that I have no music (only a couple of downloaded tunes which I plan to buy later). So my question is how do you build up your music collection (House preferably), do people buy it online and then burn to disks or do they buy the CDs and play songs straight off them. -Thanks!
