  1. I was watching a dj set using traktor earlier where the dj (yousef) had 4 decks going in traktor. It made me wonder, how many people actually use more than 2 to mix? I'm not really refering to a 3rd deck for accapellas or other tools/sounds, I'm more refering to having 3 or more decks playing a song at once. I've had 3 decks beatmatched before, and I was stoked, but to be honest it really didn't add anything special to what was coming out of the speakers. Just wondering what your thoughts and experiences are?
  2. had a listen, mainly flicked through to the parts where you were mixing. you need to tighten up your beatmatching, it's definately not tight enough. The average punter prob wouldn't pick it, but you'll find most people on here will agree. Keep an eye on your levels, some things were too loud where you brought in the new song. after that i would concentrate on EQing, especially in some parts where highs seemed to clash a little. It seemed in parts you were mixing intro to outro, which in my opinion, caused a loss of energy in your mix. Maybe read up about phrasing. All that said, if that was only your second mix you're doing very well. you've heard it before and you'll hear it 100000 times. just practice
  3. yeah, i originally signed up for videos on production.
  4. i'll promise to listen, if you promise never to wear those sunglasses again deal?
  5. fortunately I signed up to sonic academy the other day, but didn't really notice this. thanks mate

  9. due to a request, and these things being so damn popular that you have to order one months in advance I thought I would offer my thoughts on this 'Kontroller' First of all, I ordered this thing based on it's reputation only, from the good people at spank records in sydney. It took quite a while for stock to arrive in Australia due to NI not keeping up with demand. It set me back around $300 delivered. Upon opening the box you find: - the controller itself - a USB cable which is nice and long - CD with drivers and traktor LE, and I think Kore or something too? - a double sided over lay- one side for serato and the other is ready to be labeled for your own mapping - Quick start guide - $10 beatport voucher My first impressions of the controller had exceeded my expectations. I'd read a number of things on the net about these and found ZERO bad reviews, so I was expecting good things. The build quality of these units are fantastic, they look and feel like they are made to take a beating and while i'm not willing to do any drop tests, I have every bit of confidence that they would hold up. The buttons and knobs are all quality, as are the push button rotary encoders. Because I was so eager to have a play with this new toy, I installed traktor on my work pc, and plugged in the X1. Everything lights up while it initializes which takes all of 2 seconds. You are then asked by traktor if you would like to use the X1's default settings for the effects sections. I opted for yes, and got on with it, trying to mix and play around with the traktor demo songs. I'm not going to go through all the functions of the X1, as most are fairly straight forward. What I will say is that looping is a breeze, all you have to do is turn the knob and select the length of your loop (4/8/16 etc) and push the same knob in. EASY Browsing your play list is easy too, hold the shift button and press the browse/ load knob on either side. This goes into search mode, so you have a full screen of all the tracks in your play list/s. Turn the corresponding knob to select your track and press it in. your track is now loaded and all you have to do is hold the shift button and press the browse/load button to go back to your regular traktor view. Hot cues are a similar affair: Press the hot cue button and any hot cues that have been set will light up in white. Hot cues can also be created with the X1.... choose your hot cue point and assign it to buttons 1-8. EASY Just remember to turn hot cue mode off before you want press play for your next song, otherwise you have a new hot cue point in bank 4, and no song playing effects are as easy as pressing the "on" button and turning the dry/wet knob. There are short cuts to delay, reverb and filter and you can cycle through the rest by holding shift and pressing the ON button. For those concerned, I should mention that there is pitch bend and also pitch +/- This might seem like a lot to remember with all the "shift + ...." functions, but really it's not. EVERYTHING is labeled. IN CONCLUSION....... BUY ONE I will try to add some videos to this thread to explain a bit better what i'm actually on about. If you've got questions, post em here.
  10. fucking amazing, worth every cent. the only trouble I seem to have with it is confusing the auto loop knob/button with the other knob/button that is mainly used for transporting songs. press the wrong one, and you've got the same track playing on both decks all of a sudden, which sounds pretty shit. anyway, thats an operator error, and NI shouldn't be blamed for it. It's an extremely well build controller that works the second you plug it in
  11. I was using traktor pro (not scratch) with a kontrol x1. I'm familiar with beat gridding in traktor, but didn't know that could affect it and cause my problem. I'll check it when I get home. cheers
  12. nah, not the same issue. It will match the same BPM without any problems. Traktor users will know that the sync button in traktor stays yellow when it's sync'd, but in my case it flashes yellow for a split second while the pitch goes up or down to match the track thats playing. I want it to stay yellow ie. sync'd *note: this is not the case for every song, probably only half. I know it's something I'm not doing, I just don't know what.
  13. can someone tell me why when I press sync on my controller, only some songs will be synced (and stay sync'd), while others will match the BPM but not actually sync? PS. the song that is going to be sync'd is stopped, but I want it to match up as soon as I hit play. I hope this makes sense, if it doesn't let me know, and I'll try better to explain.
  14. so I signed up to this last night. So far so good! I'll upload the results once i'm finished
  15. lol, will look into this work-around *wink*
  16. another question: does ableton come with sylenth? I was looking at the "how to make tech house" demo, and they were using sylenth... which happens to be $139 euro
  17. stupid question, but: Is there an advantage in using one over the other for remixing? This would be the bulk of what i'd like to do in the beginning.
  18. it does, thanks. It's looking like i'll be using ableton. I'm going to d/l the demo tonight once I get home. The other alternative is to buy logic since i'll be using a mac.... seems like ableton is the way to go at this point though.
  19. what appealed to me were the videos that showed you exactly what to do. I'll definately have a hunt around here though.
  20. I've searched around the net for a few reviews, but didn't really find much. Just wondering if anyone has paid for a subscription to this site. It seems like it could be pretty good, and a step in the right direction for a production noob like myself. I would also like to have a look at a few alternatives as well. I'm sure there are a few sites similar to sonic academy out there, so any suggestions will be taken on board.
  21. I heard it only works with the NI controller that is coming out. kinda not sure if buying a kontrol x1 was the best choice.
  22. you should probably give credit to the authors of these articles you've posted (unless i'm blind, and you've already done so) Good reading for those who haven't read them already.
  23. yeah.................still cheating what is the difference between this pitch lock feature, and just using the BPM counter? I mean, the CDJ1000 counter is pretty accurate, why not just change the pitch to the desired BPM? or am I missing something? I've never used beat lock before
  24. just to clarify, these decks don't actually sync two songs, they just allow you to lock a song at a selected BPM, right?
