I've never installed vista, but why the hell can't you boot from the CD? it works with XP and 7, so i presumed vista to be the same deal. is your boot sequence correct? I would seriously consider getting windows 7 if i were you.

i read something about keylock (being on) causing issues like this, in certain circumstances.

oh, and have you tried checking for any updates?
