jaz is right... genre changes help a lot, for example deep house> tech house> house> electro and then do it all in reverse. theres no hard and fast rule for this, but generally it's all about the energy within a song

nothing like being informed... anyway, my honest opinion is that I think you should buy CDJ400's and a 2 chanel mixer (prob a djm400) and here is why: 1 -2nd hand, they should fit your budget 2- you can mix cd's and learn "the art" of beatmatching 3 - you can use them as controllers for traktor 4 - this setup is easily portable, and road cases are easily available 5 - you can integrate them with a DVS system down the track 6 - they have an inbuilt sound card so you can use one as a sound card for itunes when you're lazy or having a break. 7 - they are similar to cdj1000s etc and you will feel confident in a club, if you choose to get gigs when you're older 8 - they are still professional bits of equipment, and don't the same stigma as a controller 9 - If you get sick of them, and find they aren't for you then you won't lose much money (if any) if you sell them 10 - I can't think of a 10th reason anyway, thats my opinion.... at the end of the day, it's your money

you can use the x1 with anything, it's a midi controller

both have their pro's and cons I prefer traktor....

just to clarify, traktor will work with any audio interface. traktor scratch will only work with audio 4/6/8/10 and any certified mixers (xone 3d/4d, djm900, dnx1600 etc) sol, i would probably reccomend something like this if you wanted time code: http://www.djwarehouse.com.au/specials/ ... -unit.html

the sound card is built in to the controller. If traktor is being used internally, then you can record off the master output. and time code + an S4 would allow you to record the same way... but I suppose this is an exception to the rule.

i thought that if it was set to internal mode and you hit record, it would record what ever was coming out of the master?

nah, you still need a CC for your account.... a voucher just puts you $10 in credit. you cannot get free anything from the app store, unless you sign up with your CC FYI multiaccess cards are fine to use as well. there are also prepaid options... but you'll have to look into it.
