I seem to have created a shit storm, My og post was pretty vague! I may have produced the tracks on Maschine, but once i import the track as a wave into serato thats where the production stops. It would appear the technique i'm using of dropping an acapella on the track is def dj'ing. I dont really want to do it in a daw situation, as i play parties only at this stage, i want to be able to do it live..... After some stuffing around last night, i have found if I just mark the acapella at the point the first verse drops, i can then nudge and drag the vinyl to make it blend ok. I'm not going to use software to figure out the bpm of the acapella, just gonna kick it olskool and use my ear to work out if a track will work on my tune or not. I tried this the other night with ghostface and bob marley, but i was nudging the beat not the acapella, which you could really notice! Again thanks for all the imput. I really am a noob! I've been doing all this shit on my own for years, it's nice to talk to people who have a clue

thats what i'm all about! I know there are easier ways of doing things these days, but to me a dj has to feel it or there's just no point. And yes i have chosen the hardest genre, but it chose me!

serato allows me to tap out the bpm, but I find in hip hop the vocals can be so offbeat, its hard to know when to drop, thanks everyone for the input, i shall giv this more practice and post up my results

production yes, but moreso just trying to expand my tt skills! i can seemlessly mix instrumentals allday, but would like to throw the odd well known verse over the top. off topic now, but how many hip hop users rep here on adjf. thanks, after posting i thought to myself, well i do have most of these songs in og form, should just bpm them! ha cheers for the quick response, if only i wasnt stuck at whaling work! i managed to drop a marley tune "could you be loved" over a ghostface beat, worked ok, but i have found that because hip hop is usually sequence based, the "normal" track goes out of sync alot, because of the naturalness (lol) of the recording, as in no drummer is a metronome! i'll keep trying! What inspired me was a DJ Woody 90's mix tape, but the more i listen to it, the more i think its all done in logic or something.....try to learn this shit og krs1 styles!

right, i'll try and explain this as best as possible.......i've been making beats myself for awhile now, and they are sh%t boring without lyrics, I cannot!!! rap for sh%t. Therefore i want to lay some hip hop acapellas over my beats, problem is, i can mix tracks on my tt's without much drama, but as acapellas have no beat, i'm finding it hard to sync them up. My beats are made on NI mascine, and all my acapellas are mp3's mainly in serato interface. is there a "cheat program" that will sync these for me, i can load my tracks into serato no probs? has anyone been able to use something like bpm analizer with acapellas? hope this makes sense. cheers

Ok, when i started fumbling with being a dj, there was nothing except cdj's and tt's, when serato came along i lost my shit! I personally think that vinyl (wether og or control) has a better feel than cdj's or controllers, but that's just me, also dj premier never used no cdj's, so i was very one-eyed back then, the more time i spend on this forum, the more i realise, it doesn't matter what you do it with, aslong as it's dope. I wish i could of afforded technics and a decent mixer in 1997, if you like vinyl go tt's and serato, I love the feel of a turntable but thats just me!

Acapella's are the dj's bread and butter! I got a decent few, but always hunting for more, one day I'll get Mobb deep shook ones! wish you were in perth so you could come show me how to mix better, i can teach anyone to scratch and juggle! but as ive never played clubs, i dont practice actual mixing enough, much easier to just throw on another instrumental and keep cuttin and scratching! Peace!

Well i listened to as much as i could doing the dishes tonight lol. Much respect! I am woeful at mixing tracks smoothly, you nailed it! Not much stuff i could recognize and not my usual flavour of hip hop, but i was impressed with the transitions And choice of tunes! I got up to where i heard gangstarr about to drop then my phone went flat and i was like "shit just when i recognized something" lol. Will giv it sone more tommoro night, but yeah man, real nice and smooth! Keep i t up
