Well when it comes to turntables you want it to be more metal, otherwise when you knock it while the needle is on a record the thud will be heard through your speakers

The mix deck does look like an ok setup for starting out on, ive seen them in dj shops, and you do have the choice of using CDs on it but I couldn't say for sure if its any good

It also depends on what sort of setup you are looking at, I'm assuming your starting out on a controller? A good little mixer that I started out on is the Stanton SA3 which is a simple 2ch mixer
