Despite cutting off the festival’s third and final day, Electric Zoo 2013 came packed with sonic action from dawn to dusk. Across five stages and two days, artists delivered New York with the best of their summer material, exclusive mashups and bootlegs, and new tracks to compose must-hear sets for Labor Day weekend. Thankfully, many of the top acts from Friday and Saturday are giving away their sets for fans to relive the festival experience. Here are the ten sets worthy of a download to relive both days of Electric Zoo 2013. Like Armin van Buuren and Lance Bass before him, Afrojack has his sights set on an out of this world experience… literally. The mega-producer has announced plans to train for a trip to space where he intends on performing and possibly bringing along some diehard fans. How exactly will you win a trip on the Afroshuttle? We don’t know, but contest details should be available soon. Source: dancingastronaut.com

As one of the most prolific DJs on the scene gears up for the release of his eighth studio album, GRAMMY-nominated Kaskade is giving fans a taste of each of the previously unheard tracks from his forthcoming album Atmosphere, which is slated for September 10 release from Ultra Music. With a very special 90-second video vignette for each of the 12 remaining tracks on the album that have yet to be released, Kaskade is teasing fans’ seemingly insatiable appetites with these first looks as they wait for the release of this highly anticipated album. As they’re released, all of the vignettes can be viewed on Kaskade’s Offical Facebook page. Six vignettes have been released so far, the latest being “Floating” featuring Haley The last of the vignettes, “LAX to JFK,” will debut on Kaskade’s Facebook page on Friday, September 6th, the same day the full album premieres. The 13-track album has its grand festival moments like emotive opener “Last Chance,” or anthemic party celebration “Feelin The Night” but it also has unexpected, vulnerable passages that showcase Kaskade as an artist in an entirely new way. The minimalist “Floating,” featuring one of Kaskade’s favorite vocalists Haley, uses only voice and pads to paint its picture. The longing love song “Something Something” (with two-piece band Zip Zip Through The Night) swells its heart to full with strings, ambling drums and vocals in perfect harmony. A series of instrumentals capture the solitude of airline travel, as well as the vibe of the places Kaskade was traveling between: “SFO to ORD,” for example, is an uncanny intersection of San Francisco and Chicago’s house music heritages, both of which are important to Kaskade’s evolution (he was once a resident of both cities). In addition to his vocal favorites like Becky Jean Williams and Haley, this already-critically-acclaimed new electronic music album also looks to others for some new sounds including indie darlings School of Seven Bells. Other collaborations on this album include Project 45, Late Night Alumni, Swanky Tunes, Lights and Debra Fotheringham. Kaskade’s Atmosphere tour will take him to big rooms on a small tour this fall in support of the forthcoming album. Source: magneticmag.com

Outside the dance music world, Drake’s upcoming third studio album is, well, a big deal. The hype and mystery surrounding Nothing Was The Same – due out September 24th — are at equal footing, but with the big names attached and the success of his recent singles we anticipate the hype will prevail. As with most commercial music productions of late, links to our now established scene have emerged. For Drake’s LP that means appearances by James Blake and Hudson Mohawke of TNGHT who previously opened for Disclosure. “I saw him at a show and told him I had some ideas knocking around, and he invited me to Toronto,” Blake says of his involvement, “Anything that comes out of that studio, I’m happy to be involved.” With the ever discerning Blake seemingly singing the album’s praises we’re even more confident that the release will be of high quality. This past weekend, Electric Zoo cancelled their festival’s final day in cohorts with The City of New York after the death of two attendees, injuries to others, and a high volume of crime. With pressure from the mayor’s office to cancel and cooperation from the event promoters, Electric Zoo 2013 cut the weekend short for the sake of preventing further harm on Randall’s Island. Speaking up on the situation is New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who defends Electric Zoo promoters, attesting that they have a “stellar record.” Bloomberg goes on to applaud the founders for their cooperation with “nothing but good things to say about them,” but instead places blame on the drug usage. Thee cat is back with the hottest house music you will NEVER have to pay for, ‘Ill Noize’. Felix’s ever-present Chicago house roots are all on glorious display and the sexy sax roll makes it impossible not to get your wiggle on! Felix is hot property this summer; his residency for Clandestin @Space Ibiza every Friday night has been one of the highlights of the season on the White Isle as he heads up the bill alongside huge artists inc. A-Trak, Tiga, Brodinski, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Cyril Hahn and Bondax. Catch Felix there every Friday until 20th September 2013. As if that wasn’t a big enough deal, Felix has also found the time to finalise his brand new studio album, mash up the airwaves with his weekly Ibiza Sonica radio show (aired Fri 8-9pm CEST), and in between all of this still perform the world over. https://soundcloud.com/felix-da-housecat/illnoize-clandestin-mix Source: magneticmag.com

The New York City Parks Department and Made Event, Electric Zoo’s promoter, have cancelled the final day of the festival due to two reported drug overdoses. The official statement on Made Event’s Website reads: The New York Times is reporting the deceased as Jeffrey Russ, 24, of Rochester, N.Y. and Olivia Rotondo, 20, of Providence, R.I. They are also reporting that at least four additional festival goes are being treated for drug overdoses in nearby emergency rooms. The New York City Mayor’s Office released this statement “The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with city officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event”. The office cited “serious health risks” and referenced MDMA, a drug many in EDM culture refer to as ‘Molly’. Electric Zoo was scheduled to conclude today with headlining deejay sets by Armin Van Buuren, Laidback Luke, and Steve Aoki. Source: magneticmag.com

So this thread will be kinda like what eggs has done in the Hip Hop section by posting tunes his feeling or happens to find while crate digging etc, since i'm pretty much the resident DnB DJ on here i thought it'd be cool to start posting some of the tunes i've found on wax (sometimes it might not be wax that i've obtained but have found it on Beatport or whatever) over the weekend i spent most of my time crate digging at the record store i usually shop at, granted i haven't shopped their in a while cause wax is so expensive these days, but they had just got in a epic selection of old, new and classic DnB, i managed to pick up quite a few good tunes and thought i'd share them with y'all Enjoy

Well-regarded dubstep pioneer Skream has made his love for disco quite clear. While his remixes to Duke Dumont’s “Need U (100%)” and Rudimental’s “Hell Could Freeze” walked the line between house, deep, and disco, Skream’s latest original is a representation of his full metamorphosis. From quick and clean guitar licks, to Sam Frank’s falsetto, to the Latin keys, ”Rollercoaster” is quintessentially disco. The tune draws an obvious semantic comparison to Ohio Players’ “Love Rollercoaster,” and could easily serve as a modern re-imagining of the 1975 disco classic. The track is tentatively scheduled for an October 27th release. https://soundcloud.com/skreamizm/skream-rollercoaster-feat-sam-frank Source: dancingastronaut.com
