  3. With over 75 countries represented at Tomorrowland, TomorrowWorld organizers are doing their part to ensure that diversity carries over across the Atlantic, and no stage shows as much breadth as Saturday’s Anthem Stage. Names from the UK, Sweden, Puerto Rico, Spain, Estonia, Columbia, Miami, New York, San Fransisco, Missouri and Atlanta itself are all on the bill, with musical stylings that only loosely share the progressive stamp. Whether you want to get groovy with a 20 year veteran of the scene or go hard with a not yet 20-year-old producer, go for a trouse, Brit, or a fan of the 16-bit, our guide to the Anthem Stage has got you covered. While the first half of the day is dedicated to U.S.-based producers, the flippant knob-flipping The Chainsmokers who kick off the festivities have little more in common with the electro and dub enthusiast Revolvr than a country code. Throw Digital LAB’s remixes, David Solano’s oversized originals and Shreddie Mercury’s playful productions in the mix and you get a house party vibe with a track for every taste. Though nightfall ushers in a more international set, variety continues to be the spice of life for the Anthem Stage. https://soundcloud.com/shreddie-mercury/mesonoxian-original-mix-1 https://soundcloud.com/thechainsmokers/the-wanted-we-own-the-night Taking the stage at 5:30, Mord Fustang will surround listeners in a video game aura while hometown hero Le Castle Vania after him at the very least has a villainous name. Though the juxtaposition between the Atlanta audiophile’s Mau5strap sound and Danny Avila’s Big Beat big room feel may give temporary pause, both specialize in bangers – and bangs. Coming in on the home stretch is Robbie Rivera, whose juicy jams will give way to AN21 & Max Vangeli’s sizable songs before Gareth Emery packs the crossover sounds of Garuda into a 90 minute headlining set. For a little taste of everything and a big bang for your buck, head to the Anthem Stage to educate yourself on the many variations on the theme called EDM. https://soundcloud.com/robbierivera/robbie-rivera-move-your-ass-1 The full Anthem Stage lineup is as follows: Gareth Emery AN21 & Max Vangeli Robbie Rivera Danny Avila Le Castle Vania Mord Fustang Revolvr Digital LAB The Chainsmokers David Solano Shreddie Mercury Source: dancingastronaut.com

  5. The parents of the new electronic music generation hate their children. No, I’m not talking about the biological parents. I’m talking about the people that birthed EDM culture: those first in the electronic music scene however long ago. These are the only parents I know that despise the accomplishments of their offspring. They see it as an abomination of something that was once “pure”. Instead of praising their children for their accomplishments- larger festivals, higher pay scales, successful albums- they hate them. “These damn EDM kids! Their music is terrible. How do they listen to this crap?” Who does that sound like? It is as if a child took over the family company and doubled the business, only to be chastised for not maintaining the status quo. “Well child, I don’t know what the hell you are thinking… making Blu-Ray players when you know damn well this company makes VCRs!” Today’s children want the praises of their parents. Without their parents, they would not be here. They are carrying on the tradition the best way they can. They may not understand what it was like ‘back in the day’ – to schlep vinyl to gigs, record music to DAT and send demos to promoters by regular mail. I’m sure they’ve heard the stories. Hell, that’s all the parents talk about today. How it was better in their time. How today is worse because it’s not as difficult to make and play music. I guess the children will never understand. How can the parents expect them to? The children are of a different generation- internet, laptops, MP3s, MIDI controllers. It’s like wanting children of the automobile era to ride in a horse and carriage- simply because that’s how it was done in the past. Imagine if a DJ in the 1970s told DJs in the 1980s that promotional mixes had to be recorded released only on reel to reel. “Cassette tapes? Hell no! Those are garbage! Why? Well because that’s not how WE did it back in ’77!” Just because you are rejecting technology does not mean you have the privilege of writing off those who use it. And no matter how primitive your DJ rig or studio is, aren’t its components all representative of some sort of technological advancement? Why are you accepting innovations of that time but not of today? An event more important question is why hate on those that embrace it and thrive? It’s important for children to acknowledge their parent’s sacrifices, of course. But isn’t that what parents do? Sacrifice for their children? Stop hating your offspring. Embrace them. Guide them so they can further their success. Your control over the industry has been lost, so stop holding on. Yesterday will never return, and tomorrow is already here. Source: magneticmag.com
  6. The LA Weekly has reported that the suspected overdose at this year’s Hard Summer event in Los Angeles was due to natural causes. Original reports had indicated that the deceased, 21 year old Jonathan Reyes, had died from a suspected drug overdose. From the LA Weekly’s Dennis Romero: Source: magneticmag.com

  9. Calvin Harris and Alesso are back with a new track that is sure to set a few main stages alight (TomorrowWorld, anyone?). Theo Hutchcraft’s powerful vocals set against a fanfare of signature synthwork will probably be a massive stage-killer. We can picture the jumping seas of people and fireworks already. Alesso premiered the full track in his Sirius XM set from Ibiza. https://soundcloud.com/calvinharris/calvin-harris-alesso-theo Source: dancingastronaut.com
  10. Booka Shade have been favorites of dance music fans of many tastes for the span of four full-length albums, and the Berlin-based duo have just announced the details of their fifth — entitled Eve. In their club/concert hall performances they combine live instrumentation and machinery in a way unparalleled by his peers and through their much-celebrated career, they’ve carved out distinct niche for themselves. The album is due out at the beginning of November (on the 1st digitally and on the 5th on Embassy One), but to get fans excited the pair uploaded a full stream of the first single off the LP. “Love Inc” is track two but its remix package will be released on October with contributions from Hot Since 82, Emperor Machine, Richie G, and Booka Shade themselves. https://soundcloud.com/booka-shade/love-inc-5 Track listing: CD1 01. 11. Skrillex and Warren Haynes to participate in Grateful Dead case study Although some music fans are unaware of the impact the Grateful Dead have had on the way live music tours are presented and consumed, the groups influence is undeniable. “Community, communication, fan accessibility, direct-to-fan ticketing, touring outside of album cycles, creating immersive experiences, moving-target set lists, and live recording of concerts all were first implemented in a broad way by the Dead,” explains Ray Waddell of Billboard. The Keynote Case Study at the 10th Annual Billboard Touring Conference will examine these influences with a star-studded panel including dance music poster boy Skrillex. While touring is important across all genres, its relevance and use in dance music are unparalleled so it makes sense that Sonny Moore will speak alongside Warren Haynes, Lee Anderson (AM Only), Sam Hunt (Windish Agency), Gregg Perloff (Another Planet Entertainment), and former Grateful Dead manager Rock Scull. 12. TomorrowWorld’s Smash The House vs Dirty Dutch extravaganza to make unruly grand finale It was the final hours of Tomorrowland in Belgium and, presumably, attendees flocked the the Main Stage to wrap up the weekend as they would do at most festivals. But Tomorrowland wasn’t most festivals; the real party was taking place at Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike, and Chuckie’s imprint-clashing blowout — an over-the-top finale that featured special guests, champagne showers, and crowd surfacing to accompany the last mashups of the weekend. Similarly, America’s version of the Boom fairytale won’t be like most festivals either. TomorrowWorld will too have Belgium’s hometown heroes and the Dirty Dutch madman setting up shop on day three. With top-tier talent scheduled to take the decks from start to finish, and a celebratory finale that will replicate one of Tomorrowland’s greatest moments; there’s much to desire from the Smash The House vs Dirty Dutch stage later this month in Chattahoochee Hills. Dannic The Revealed Recordings native will find himself in the mix between electro-savvy stars of Smash The House and Dirty Dutch, infusing a progressive sound to set himself apart and amplifying his regular antics to match the energy of his counterparts. With countless hits beneath his belt in 2013, Hardwell’s understudy will unload his arsenal with tracks such as “Rocker,” “Ignite,” and “Clobber” as his weapons of TomorrowWorld destruction. The wise decision to spend your time partying at this clash of the titans exhibit comes with stellar bonuses — Dannic certainly being one of them. Cazzette Dimtri and Mike strive to smash the house, or better yet the festival, while Chuckie’s knack for filthy beats and a filthy atmosphere combine for a venue that very few artists could step up to fulfill. If there’s a duo that may very well execute the standards of partying set by the hosts, however, it’s Cazzette. Having branded their own quirky dub-house while entering the electronic community, the sounds and atmosphere that Alex and Seb have mastered come as a match made in heaven for the stage that will draw the festival’s most reckless crowd. Equipped with all three parts of their Eject album and its genre-bending hits, mashups for the likes of Jay Z and Kanye West, and their most recent remix of Katy Perry’s “Roar,” Cazzette will bring nothing less than an element of surprise to TomorrowWorld’s Smash The House vs Dirty Dutch. Chuckie The Dirty Dutch half of the Smash The House vs Dirty Dutch stage won’t allow expectation to fall short or attendees to leave TomorrowWorld yearning for me. On Sunday, after two full days of partying and the festival’s final moments on the clock, Chuckie will pull out all the stop to hold down his brand after acts such as Gregori Klosman and Betatraxx. Back at home, they call him Sir Clyde Narain, but in America he’s still known by his DJ name. But Chuckie will prove his knight-ship in Chattahoochee Hills, delivering frenetich Dutch house, mixing flawlessly between relentless beats, but at the same time abandoning fundamentals to interact with his crowd. If you desire the high-octane house that Chuckie is known to deliver, or the frequent hip-hop drops that come with the experience, find Chuckie at TomorrowWorld. But if you find yourself anywhere near the front barricade, be ready to assist him in crowd surfacing. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike These Belgian brothers are not only Tomorrowland’s poster boys, Boom’s hometown heroes, or the creators behind the festival’s annual anthems, but they’ve become one of the most electrifying acts in live dance music once these accolades intertwine. At Tomorrowland, their closing set from the Smash The House vs Dirty Dutch stage had Martin Garrix, Chuckie, Gregori Klosman, and more special guests joining them on stage for an interactive champagne shower marathon. They’ve already produced “Chattahoochee,” a big room ready hit named after the festival’s Georgia location, and their next big release will be “Ocarina,” the official anthem of TomorrowWorld. For more than a stage-shaking set and one of the best parties within the party, look no further than Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s last dance. Source: dancingastronaut.com
  13. Tiësto embarks on a Never Ending Weekend; six shows, three days, one party Life on the road is certainly unrelenting for the titans of EDM. As one of the busiest men in the business, Tiësto‘s schedule doesn’t begin or end with producing, label management, or live performances. With a jam-packed tour schedule from now leading through late December, he is kicking off as massive run with his self-proclaimed Never Ending Weekend. Six shows, three days, one continuous party, it all begins in Las Vegas on Friday, September 20th with an iHeartRadio appearance by day and a Hakkasan set by night. The weekend continues on Saturday with a pool party at Wet Republic and jetting to Phoenix for a later show at Sound Wave. Flying across the country for Sunday’s finale, Tiësto is set to play Atlantic City’s HQ Beach Club during the day and HQ Night Club when the sun does down. Source: dancingastronaut.com

  20. Bad haircuts, unrelenting anguish, and jawline acne– puberty is a weird place. Fortunately, most of us are not important enough to have our formative years irreverently displayed on the interweb. From Steve Aoki gettin’ his Drew Barrymore on above to the rest of the peanut gallery below, here are some photos of your favorite EDM culture DJS before they were famous. Brace yourselves, awkward turtles are coming… 1. DEADMAU5 This is deadmau5 before all the Ghosts’ n’ Stuff. Sofi needs a haircut… 2. REDFOO Running through these hoes like Drano since 1975. 3. 21. Knife Party’s new electronic music video for “LRAD” was made in partnership with Partizan and directed by High5Collective. The clip takes us to a dystopian world where Long Range Acoustic Devices are used for mind control and our politicians are robots that perfectly accompany the big-room chords and percussive drops found in EDM culture. 22. For the second time in the eight year history the Pioneer DJ and DJ Times-sponsored competition, Kaskade has been named ‘America’s Best DJ.’ Fans voted online and in-person at more than 20 festivals and events around the US, selecting Ryan Raddon as their top candidate over such industry leaders as Diplo, Skrillex, Bassnectar and more. Raddon, fresh off the release of his dazzling eighth studio album Atmosphere, said: “Words can’t do justice to how completely grateful I am to receive this honor for a second time. I am constantly in awe of the love, encouragement and energy I receive from my fan-base, which has continued to inspire and motivate me throughout my career.” Kaskade will be honored at the official America’s Best DJ Award Ceremony and Closing Party on October 13th, at Marquee Las Vegas, and will receive a custom, gold-plated Pioneer DJM-900 Nexus mixer.
