HOW DEADMAU5 GOT PAID 200K TO PLAY ‘LIVIN’ ON A PRAYER’ IN VEGAS, AND WHY WME IS GOING TO COURT OVER IT This may be one of my favorite Vegas stories not involving Mike Tyson or strippers. The Hollywood Reporter has reported a crazy lawsuit currently involving Deadmau5, his agency William Morris Endeavor, a Vegas high roller, and the Bon Jovi classic ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’. In February of 2011, Deadmau5 was scheduled to perform a set at XS Nightclub when he was approached by his agent, Joel Zimmerman (which also happens to be Deadmau5′s real name), with an offer. XS co-owner Jesse Waits had approached him with an offer from club regular Don Johnson, who is the CEO of Heritage Development and commonly spends between 100k and 500k at the club. Johnson would pay Deadmau5 $200k if the DJ would include Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’ in his set. Obviously, Deadmau5 played the track, even though it’s a very un-Deadmau5 thing to do, but, hey 200k is 200k. During the song, Johnson jumped on the stage to dance like an idiot and hug the DJ, while the screens in the club displayed “Don Motherfucking Johnson” in text. After the show, Zimmerman was accompanied by Waits to the casino to collect the payment, and was promptly yelled at and confronted by Johnson’s personal security team. The two never received payment. Zimmerman, feeling XS was at fault, said that Waits would have to pay the $200k in order to preserve the relationship between the club and the agency. Waits offered to pay $50k, and Zimmerman and WME paid Deadmau5 the other $150k to keep their client happy. The story would have ended there, and never made it to the public, had Waits not filed a lawsuit against Zimmerman, claiming that the $50k was a loan that was never paid back. Zimmerman and WME both filed counterclaims to Waits and Johnson, explaining the night at XS in detail. It appears that the parties have reached an out of court settlement, although it hasn’t been finalized. For now, you can watch the video of the $200k song below. Source: liveforlivemusic.com

Not sure aye, we've obviously seen that ikea has been known to be very good for desks and vinyl storage, even though they probably didn't even know it, wouldn't mind seeing a custom vinyl storage turned into a deck station, i know all you gotta do is turn 1 of their 2x4 shelves on its side, but would be cool to see something more interesting
-
well i found out this morning that i wasnt good enough for this competition, apparently there were around 53 submissions all up, the best 6 got in
-
I've already tried looking on the ikea website, the brackets and the shoe shelf itself are apparently out of stock for most of Australia, but I'm not gonna trust the website stock for shit, might head out to ikea this weekend and see what they have

For most DJs, upgrading to the latest controller takes time and money that they don’t have – so today we’re sharing a DJTT reader’s low-tech solution for adding colored buttons to a Traktor Kontrol X1 MK1. Read on to learn how to do it yourself and customize this controller for a fraction of the cost of upgrading – and in just a few minutes! DJTT Reader Phoenix Kraundler wrote to us at DJTT when sharing his Kontrol X1 light mod project – his steps are below! For some time now I’ve wanted to change the color of the buttons on my controllers and put my personal touch into them to make them unique. On the X1, I wanted to put different colors for different buttons for even easier navigation on the controller. The Kontrol X1 MK2 includes colored cue points and different color transport controls – but some home modification on the MK1 generation was all that I needed. STEP 1: OPEN THE CONTROLLER Keep track of all of the screws – use a small bowl or cup! Originally I wanted to change the actual backlights behind the buttons by changing them to different colors, but when I opened the controller I realized that it would be harder than imagined. If you don’t have confident soldering experience and spare color LEDs laying about, don’t try to mod the circuit board. Opening the controller just involves the screws from the back of the X1 – but note that opening a controller like this will likely void any warranty on the unit. STEP 2: ACQUIRE TINTING PAPER / FOIL / GELS I decided to put a thin foil in different colors over the existing light to would change the colors of the buttons. I wanted to change my play button to blue, and cue button to pink. For this purpose, I used a small adhesive foil which normally serves for bookmarking the pages in a textbooks. You’ll want to make sure the material isn’t too thick in order to allow light through – so other good options include light gels or cello paper. STEP 3: MEASURE, CUT, AND PLACE Cut the paper down to the right size for the button you’re changing – and remember that the inside of the button is smaller than the face of it. I cut the bookmarks into small pieces, and inserted them to fill the rubber space where the button is as shown above. You’ll still be able to see a slight amount of the original color on the sides, so if you wanted to go above and beyond, you could likely add additional even smaller pieces to fix that – but check the results first and see if it seems necessary. STEP FOUR: COLORED BUTTONS! Close up the the controller, connect it to USB and “voilà”! In general, this will work with many controllers that have rubber buttons in this style – but be aware that not every controller has easy to access buttons like the X1 MK1 does. UK’s Warehouse Project to launch on-site drug testing during 2013 season The opening weekend of the Greater Manchester Warehouse Project was marked by tragedy this year as 30-year-old Nick Bonnie died in the hospital after consuming what he believed to be ecstasy. Over the course of the sold out Axwell-headlined Friday and Seth Troxler-manned Saturday, fifteen others were hospitalized, calling attention to the club’s impending government-funded drug testing plan. Beginning on October 12th, the post-Ibiza party will be the pilot site of a testing program that quickly processes confiscated drugs in an on-site lab and sends out warnings of the contents via social media to clubgoers inside. The endeavor will be funded by the Home Office’s Centre for Applied Science and Technology, marking an unprecedented step in the battle against the PMA epidemic that has swept England and Wales. Designed to prevent such events, the program was planned before Bonnie’s death, and Warehouse Project director Sacha Lord explained in a BBC interview that “This isn’t something that’s just happening at the Warehouse Project, this is a national issue.” According to the Manchester Evening News, the Trafford club already goes to great lengths to keep its patrons safe, handing out flyers on the dangers of PMA to every patron, giving out water to clubbers on their way home and hosting a “welfare unit” staffed with medics. The club maintains its zero-tolerance policy but hopes that the testing can prevent future tragedies: “We need to educate people about what’s going on, as there’s some nasty stuff out there,” Lord said. With an entire season of such names as The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Armin van Buuren, Richie Hawtin, Knife Party and more still set to perform, the dance community sincerely wishes the program success. EDM culture has been seeping into the mainstream for a while now, with electronic music often powering the trailers and soundtracks of movies that reach mass audiences. As with anything Hollywood, it can turn out really corny (i.e. Hackers, inarguably one of the worst films of all time). But if electronic music is used the right way in the right scene it can be pretty damn epic. Here are our seven picks for the best use of EDM in the scene of a film (note: this does not include entire scores of entire films, i.e. the Dust Brother’s Fight Club score, only scenes). 1. GIORGIO MORODER’S “CHASE” IN MIDNIGHT EXPRESS This epic electro disco cut is all appregiator all the way and sets the tone for chase scenes for decades to come. Source: magneticmag.com 2. KAVINSKY’S “NIGHTCALL” FEATURING LOVEFOXX IN DRIVE A little more Xanex’d out than Moroder’s “Chase”, Kavinsky’s track as become synonymous with hipster car chase scenes circa 2010. 3. PAUL OAKENFOLD’S “READY, STEADY, GO” IN COLLATERAL Michael Mann knows how to shoot a night club scene and pair a song with it perfectly. Oakenfold’s “Ready, Steady, Go” keeps the tension high while Tom Cruise is shooting up a Koreatown soiree. 4. DAFT PUNK’S “DA FUNK” IN THE SAINT Strage Val Kilmer accents? Check! Humungous satellite sideways flip phone? Check! Volvo 1800- Check! This is like Mordoder’s Chase X Kavinsky’s Drive which equals PERFECT. Oh yeah, Daft Punk. 5.NINA SIMONE’S “SINNERMAN” FELIX DA HOUSECATS HEAVENLY HOUSE REMIX IN MIAMI VICE Another Michael Mann vehicle here, this time shot at Mansion in Miami. Spot on pick for Miami nightlife at that time. We question the Colin Farrell mullet though. 6. UNDERWORLD’S “BORN SLIPPY” IN TRAINSPOTTING Ewen McGregor’s soliloquy combined with “Born Slippy” in the background is the right way to end Trainspotting, no question. 7. NEW ORDER’S “CONFUSION” (PUMP PANEL RECONSTRUCTION MIX) IN BLADE Blood Bath. Blood Rave. Whatever you want to call it this is the shit right here.

Whether FabricLive or just Fabric, this new electronic music mix series has got to be one of the best out there. So many of the mixes they’ve put out have been nothing short of legendary- James Murphy, Metro Area, Simian Mobile Disco, Spinbad, Diplo and Spankrock are just to name a few. Always way ahead of the game (they hosted diplo in 2005!), if a new Fabric mix is out, you listen. We are super stoked hear that next mix coming is FabricLive 72: Boys Noize. New electronic music from the Crystal Method! Their new album is scheduled to be released in January of 2014, and they are sharing the 1st single Emulator as a free EDM download this weekend only. It’s a dope track, complete with electronic tangles and of course some big bass drums for that ass. Oh yeah it’s kinda got a drop in it for the bros. One thing’s for sure, it’s Crystal Method all the way. https://soundcloud.com/the-crystal-method/emulator Source: magneticmag.com
