  1. ^ yer, i used to work in retail and did the same, got moved to the stock room after a week coz the bosses didnt care what the customer wanted and didnt support my customer care policy. maybe uk retail is just more greedy? I hated it. but whatever the sales staff are like, try everything in the flesh if you can sol.
  2. ^ good find cap, i would avoid the pioneer branding tho. anyone who sees that is gonna want to nick it. same box, no logo please. p.s.ninja edits mate.
  3. and build you're own crossfader out of two salvaged vol faders... that's pretty much how i made my first ever set up lol! Sol: You have so much info and advice now. I know it may be hard depending on where you live but if you can go to a shop and try them all in the flesh. Ignore absolutley everything the salespeople say. They will be promoting whichever one they get most mark up on. ...remember all the info you've had from you adjf brothers and sisters. Then go with your gut.
  4. This is the whole of my 1st mix on the NS6. I was very hungover this day but had started to come round and feel mellow. Still wouldnt say i was 100% confident I know what i'm doing with the controller yet but thats not really an excuse: some of it is outright shite. some of it is alright. feedback welcome, especially about how the various genres of music work together? Ns6 dub to 2step test by more foolish
  5. thought i'd post this here sounds like a dj in a rush for the first few tracks but then settles in a bit. more foolish adjf comp by more foolish
  6. what are the relative prices of the options? where I am it's like this: S4 £749 ns6 £799 DDjt-1 £899 DDjs-1 £1099 not sure what regions this offer is available to but also chk this:http://newsletter.native-instruments.com/ov?mailing=1V17NBV-1EFRSRB&m2u=FFL1EHV-1V17NBV-18EM1749&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=S4+sales+special&utm_source=newsletter i guess the scratch thing not too important to you but you might be able to sell that on? unless your keep cd dex too. and up there^ somewhere eggs dropped some gold for ya.
  7. top thread Chev. hope this fits amongst what you're after. This is the sound being played a few years back in the back room at my local Dub Reggae soundclash club. It's the close relationship to Dub Reggae that worked for me. Off beat syncopation and skanking riddims ya know? in fact while i'm here: props to iration steppas. that dubstep sound from their backroom has exploded but they are still knocking out roots reggae and dub inna year 3000 style:http://www.irationsteppas.co.uk but anyway:
  8. yer, unfortunately i'm going to have to set up a new soundcloud now. something to do with reincarnation. anyway, when i do i;ll get on this
  9. cheers capfive, i know gator are generally overpriced for what you get, they are industry standard and play on their rep a bit IMO. that body glove thing looks amazing tho. I was suprised to find they were uk too... i've mailed them to get some internal dimensions. http://www.bodygloveuk.com/seriesone.php "no questions asked - lifetime guarantee" get in.
  10. interesting: would have enough room to keep a change of clothes.... has wheels and pockets too: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gator-61-Note-4 ... 494&sr=1-4
  11. i had to edit this post coz yours nipped in there. full on rofl. anyway: i'm thinking of going to measure up some small keyboard cases. I've had custom builds done b4 but know an off the shelf product is way cheaper. If i get one thats too big I will add foam but also have space for headphones, laptop stand, xlrs, and tings. i'll post any dimensions I find...
  12. ^that shoulder bag is an ideal solution, waterproof, lightweight, foam inner... They wont make one of those for the NS6 i dont think cos it's much heavier having the steel body. i'll keep my eyes out though. if i had an S4 that would be a no brainer lloyd, best of all worlds. P.s. Capfive and me are ninjas man.
  13. OK. cheers lloyd, yeah i know about dry solder but am handy enuff with the iron, good info man. Capfive: even tho lloyd is right I'm swinging round to a better safe than sorry attitude. Reckon hard case FTW. not that much more cost but you dont have to think twice about where you put it or if you sit on it.
  14. sol: http://www.ausdjforums.com/modules.php? ... highlight= let me know what you find out about baggage too mate? could be a worthy thread.
  15. I am wondering if the following assumptions I have on midi controllers are true: 1) That midi controllers have no moving parts or delicate mechanisms (such as cd spindles and lasers, turntable tonearm assembly)? I get the feeling that they are mostly PCB with a small audio out section. 2) and that therefore physical knocks and scrapes may damage rotary pots, faders or buttons but can't physically damage much of the internal working of the unit. Can any of you confirm or disproove these assumptions please? ...and with this in mind how important does everyone think it is to have a proper hard case for transporting a controller? As oppose to a well padded bag?
  16. ^ i dont know about baggage allowances mate. but i'm considering bags/cases at the minute. In the past I have always insisted on a hard case as I have seen eqpt degrade v quickly on tour if in just a bag. This damage is often caused by knocks or squishing amongst other kit but seems to also come about just from shaking and rattling if not encased in good foam. But these controllers have no moving parts or delicate mechanisms to break. I guess that inside these units it's just pcbs so apart from physically knocking a pot or fader off I dont see much chance for damage. Still i normally figure better safe than sorry so am thinking on. and would love a bit of input from any electrical engineers, controllers developers, beta testers.. Meantime i guess a standard off the shelf 61 key keyboard hard case would have about the dimensions of most midi controllers, although that is also to be confirmed.
  17. i beleive it has several dedicated buttons but one of the best things about the ddjjtt1 is that it works with traktor midi maps which means you can choose which button does what. i.e. if there aren't enough hot cues you can assign other buttons to act as them. You can also set a "shift" button so that buttons that normally do something like "play" or "pause" or "pitch bend/nudge" or whatever can be assigned to be extra cues when you hold the "shift" and yeah you can choose which effect is available for control by the rotary effects. or assign parameter control to the platter, traktor is very versatile like that whichever controller or DVS you use. Having played on an S4 i would vote for the ddjjsss. As hobbz said you will be familiar with the industry standard cdj players as pioneer uses the same buttons. Also the S4 platters are above all those sample player controls which made any kind of platter use a real ball ache to me. But have you heard of the NS6? hahahaha
  18. ^absolutely, that was the point of my first post in this topic. I was one of those in the 90s who fought against cdjs replacing vinyl. Now i know vinyl didnt die and cdjs have their place and purpose so this time i find myself able to embrace the change to controllers. It's just like jazz clubs are still going strong after 80 years... the main commercial fashions come and go but any scene that generates a die hard old skool of afficionados will continue. Vinyl is still my fav format but for practical issues I now use a controller at most gigs.
  19. ^hahaha, how high are you cap5? you getting aggressive with the fool or agreeing with him? and double posting it! my man
  20. ^ haha djaz only you mate, so far everyone else had given a really balanced view on what may suit Sol best regardless of what they liked themselves.
  21. ^this. or do i need to refer the right honourable gentleman to my previous comments relating to the May Cupe Dubstep mix again?
  22. ^seen, nice one guvnor. p.s. SOL: mac is for audio, pc is for office and games. correct.
  23. shit, how do i send a pm? it;s written and sitting in my outbox but i cant see how to send it? help?
  24. ^ yer thats what i mean, it'll take 5-10 yrs, and clubs will still have cdjs just like they still have technics... but the winds of change always blow slow to start with. the way i see it sol has an opportuntiy to be ahead of it and ride the wave instead of chase it. anyway gandy, i'm sending you a PM my man.
  25. ^interesting cultural difference. bootleg just means pirate copy here so is 100% rude, i'll have to rem not to diss any of you for posting about your latest bootleg then!
