  1. where do you guys think burial fit into all this? first tune i heard that sounded like something new... so i guess its the first tune that i heard the word "dubstep" applied to.
  2. haha, crundmaster flash, rofl irl.
  3. ^depends if it was a demo only model, sometimes shops get units that are still owned by the manufacturer or are lent out on a sale or return basis. in this case the shop cannot sell as ex-demo so returns to numark and it gets refurbed. refurb means quality checks and a clean... or if there has been a bad batch that kept breaking they have solved the issue and replaced the faulty component/s. They wont offer warranty refurbs without being sure they are ok. costs them too much to refund them all. refurb is a wonderful thing... if it comes with warranty the only difference is the amount of packaging and the fact you pay less for it. p.s. why the edirol soundcard? i thought the mixtrack pro came with audio?
  4. as soon as you get confused or annoyed stop. try scratching or just listen to a fav tune let it rest mate, no one got anywhere flogging a dead horse. it will come but not by trying too hard, that's just gonna piss you off. p.s. only just figured out what your avatar is, that's dope man.
  5. ^hate to come late to the party but this sounds the best way to judge this to me! anyway i added an extra tune which should disqualify me... so it's beatless or caps 4 gold and silver... will try again nxt month/ have more time and a new toy!
  6. as i say i'm no expert, i only do the p.a. when its an indoor mobile dj gig. anything bigger and i let others take care of it. -but i think the key to what wazza is saying is ventilation for whatever unit is likely to get warm. in theory i guess condensation can build up inside cd decks etc too. I guess some units have dealt with the issue by allowing ventilation and some havent. lets be honest: all these products have user manuals which stipulate recommended working conditions. The developers have to test them to be sure they wont kill people in normal working situations so i guess if you read the manual specific to your kit you'll find out what is safe and what isnt. Unless wazza can drop us some more knowledge for srs question?
  7. ^ funnily enuff i am totally with wazza on this. I only use powered speakers as a mobile DJ coz in this climate we never ever do outdoor events as a mobile. Maybe an afternoon session or a skatepark opening but not a party into the night. i play outdoors at doofs and festies until the sun comes up but trust the professional P.A. company to deal with anything that happens after my XLR outs. It can be 98 degrees in a marquee full of nutters but 4 degrees outside... no idea how they cope with the kit, condensation literally dripping of the top of the tent so much that i've had parasols on stage to protect the decks from them.
  8. ^in case you hadnt noticed this gem of pure genius i thought i'd quote it. if adjf gave knighthoods wazza would be king arthur
  9. ^ oh shit yeah, i didnt even mention that but that was the purpose i posted. nice one wazza. cables wound tight round anything = internally broken and dangerous. be gentle and be tidy, saves time and money in the long run. p.s. sol: you say in future you'll avoid powered speakers because of the extra cables. You will only reduce you're rig by one cable by having an amp and passive speakers, plus you'll have an amp to carry out too.
  10. what wazza said: there are two different standards amongst cd players and setting cues. pioneers normally you pause your track by pressing play/pause or holding the platter still and press cue = cue is set. Numark, american audio and several others you just press pause and play again to set cue. ON these players if you press pause then cue you go the previous cue, you have to press pause, then play then cue to have the new point set as cue. hope that helps. very hard to explain without the units to demo on.
  11. hey man, if cables are a wind up (no pun intended) get some mountain climbing or boating practise in... those guys now how to handle rope and you can pick up good tips which you can apply to cables.
  12. good bumps man would've missed this without, good interview, good sounds, good work fella. +rep eggs
  13. ^ I would say a name for a mobile dj is more important than for a club dj. club Dj can use his/her own name and aims to make it a brand. As a mobile dj the name should strive to get across some idea of what the service you provide is. So names like "rock disco", "soul boys parrties", "rave djs" etc all give a hint what type of disco you would expect from djs supplied by those agencies.... I work for an agency run by a pal called: "the hi-life entertainment agency" it works. TBH: funky feet reminds me of that movie "happy feet". it implies a light hearted chart disco to me. which should work for a mobile dj, dont think it would get much cred if you trying to play dubstep tho!
  14. jealous of ya cap! my dance student gig last night was mint. started 7pm, good BBQ, great band, incredibly healthy girls, good music requests, and much fun had by all.... fin at 5am... will link to vids if they get posted on youtube...

  20. ^sorry man got a little giddy recently...didnt think i'd trolled much, just stretching the wings of my new found freedom a little too far maybe. can you link to the offending posts so i can chk myslef, i live for self-improvement srs. PM if necessary?
  21. eggs ^i think you misunderstand me mate. i'm not saying anyone needs to trace the roots of music and become an expert in the older releases or the origins of a scene. You dont have to know kraftwerk to dig deadmaus ya know. I'm talking about "roots" music, it's a genre of west-indian music which is backed by a philosphy full of soul and from which (along a wobbly path) dubstep was invented. Hip hop is a way of life, "roots" music is another, and i dig them both. i dont have to be a trainspotter and i dont diss anyone for their taste. I'm saying anyone who knows that genre and understands its philosophy is always welcome.
  22. wedding tonight, playlist looks a top 40 of stuff i dont like. tmrw is local dance college end of year party and graduation at my crews venue the musicquairum = 200 * 21 year old student dancers feeling emotional and getting battered. could be interesting. p.s. i never linked you lot to the venue i'm linked to yet: http://themusiquariumleeds.co.uk/The_musiquarium/Photos.html
  23. ^aye bro, glad we're on a level again. personally i think a lot of kids get into it now via dance music/club culture/fashion/consumerism... It sells so it is watered down and churned out. ...but it started as roots music. IMHO: Many kids will never see the roots, they'll pass through their club culture phase, fashion will move on, they'll look back with rose-tints and they'll look down on the new and diss it as not as good as it was in their day. They're just consumers mate. Babylon will fall. ...but any and all individuals who recognise the roots are welcome in my yard however they found their way there.
