4 hours DJ Gig - Collaroy, $200 ($50 per hour) Year 6 Dance
hoddi replied to CapFive's topic in DJ Headquarters
I was about to say I would totally do this but then I realised I'm away hope you find someone and I wish I could because I need the money haha -
I've got a ddj-s1 so I'm fairly used to pioneer. And yeah I've just gotta keep practicing, I am pretty confident with my skill, it was just really nerve racking
-
I got mine new for $150 at a sale
-
I agree it's just a name but it's a name I will probably be stuck with haha and that was my main decision just to go with my name. I think I could get sick of or outgrow Hoddi so although it's long I think it's best for me
-
thanks everyone
-
made my page, just went with my name https://www.facebook.com/laurenhoddinottmusic
-
mm I could, but probably won't haha I don't know if it has a good ring to it
-
exactly Oh and when making my page, should I put DJ Lauren Hoddinott so that people know what it is for?
-
Thats what I was thinking because it is different enough. A lot of people tell me its boring though and I should have a 'proper' dj name
-
Hey hey Since I've started dj'ing in clubs I'm thinking I need a legit name. I want to make a facebook page for myself whilst there is hype among people to hopefully get those people to like my page. I'm thinking Hoddi or just going with my name Lauren Hoddinott or anything else anyone can suggest. I don't really want to go with the 'dj' tag though. Thanks

this was the mix I was trying to play, not perfect here either but oh well http://soundcloud.com/laurenhoddinott/september-mix-1

Oh and I'm trying to prepare for HSC (final exams) so didn't have much time to prepare for this :'( I'm going to buy Serato before I ever play again so that I can use my laptop

Hey everyone As some of you might know, I participated in the Soho Friday's DJ Comp on friday. I got there at around 7:45 and by 8 there were only 3 out of the 6 contestants there. We each picked a number out of a hat which was to be our order. I was third to pick and I said out loud 'I just don't want first' so obviously its just my luck thats what I got. I was nervous because I had never been in a club before as I had only turned 18 the sunday before my gig. I was used to my controller and laptop as my set up however as I only have Serato Itch I couldn't use that with the gear they had so I decided to use USBs. As I never usually use them though this wasn't the best idea. I also didn't have rekordbox so the USBs loaded really slowly and I couldn't see the BPM's for so long so I had no idea what I was doing. Some of my transitions were soooooo off but some were alright. I didn't do very well but I still had fun and I can't wait to get back into it. Two people went through from my round which obviously wasn't me but I've been told that they want me for other gigs anyway because they know I can do better. Everyone was so nice to me and were really supportive so although it didn't go well I still want to continue with it press press I'm a dj

got it now, here it is, i know the beat matching if off in sections and not all the songs work exactly how i did them but its a rough start http://soundcloud.com/laurenhoddinott/practice-mix-1/s-5yQXl

Hey everyone, if any Sydney siders would like to come down to soho this friday I will be playing a short set as part of the 1st week of round one of their mix comp. They specifically mentioned that promotion and getting people into the club is a big part of the comp. (I'm Lauren Hoddinott for anyone that doesn't know lol) I'll be playing a 20 minute set sometime between 8 and 10, I won't find out when exactly till the night though. I know its early but cheap drinks and free entry if you mention Jacqui de Zwart, Joseph manzattis, Courtney darcy's or Chris Lange or any other promoter name you know
-
I also asked about the songs we should use as in should it reflect the time we are playing or to play more upbeat stuff like it would be if he had a gig and he said play what you like playing. I'm not sure if he meant this or just didn't want to answer my question haha I uploaded a mix but it got tken down for copyright on soundcloud
-
I found out that we are playing individual sets not transitioning into the person before us so that is good and I think I will use my laptop with serato but I will also take USBs with the potential songs
-
What do u mean?
-
Ok, I'm not used to USBs but oh well. Cupe they are splitting everyone up over 8 weeks, lucky me just got chosen to go first week which sucks
-
nah I turned 18 two days ago haha this is my track list as of now, not set in stone obviously - animal rights - deadmau5 lights - ellie goulding ryan enzed remix elements - dinka mr right now - lucky kate my love will surround you - dinka i could be the one - ryan enzed remix no beef feels so close - joey beatz remix the bad touch - bloodhound gang gigi borocco remix I've got a few repeated artists, tell me if this isn't ok, I just did it because I thought they went well, not sure if some songs are a bit heavy or not though Also I've got quite a few people saying they will come to hype up the place hopefully and to show the club people I can pull customers for them and also because I don't want to be wondering the cross by myself. I have been asking the guy I've been corresponding to about what time slot I'll be in and also what gear I'll be using but he hasn't replied, I feel like an annoying whinging kid haha oh well How would it go if I'm using my laptop but the person before/after is too? I don't know how this shit works
-
Yea although there would be less people and I would have to play more chill stuff, I would be happy to go first because I don't have to transition into anyone else
-
How come don't prepare a mix? Maybe I will just look really good haha

Hey everyone, long time no chat, I know. I sent a mix off to soho and surprisingly found out I am one of their 36 finalists in their dj comp. I am playing this friday night sometime between 8 and 10 (not sure yet) and have no idea what to think. I have never played in a club let alone been in a club! Any 1st time tips would be amazing because I don't really know where to start. It's only a 20 minute set so any advice on what they will be looking for/what the environment will be like/music I should play/anything else you can think of would be amazing. Thanks
