  1. I was under the impression bootcamp provided a virtual windows desktop. dissimilar to dual booting, in the sense that you can access a windows desktop at any time, while running OS X.
  2. theres no native version of FL for mac. The only way to do it, would be like Tomy said, and install it on Bootcamp. You could then ReWire it back into another native mac DAW if necessary.
  3. that midi controller synth, sampler thing is real Its the OP-1 made by Teenage Engineering
  4. im not sure that the 'mixer' button is freely mappable. if you're referring to katapult, you can use a range of buttons as faders, or an XY pad, toggle, pad switches, etc. I think the only way to use the 'mixer' button would be a custom app running in the background. something like Max4Live.
  5. I use mine for controlling loops and cue points in traktor. If you get a program called Katapult, you can create custom maps and designate what buttons do what, and the colours they light up. very handy.

  7. e-threats? really. sigh. bury the hatchet mate.
  8. I'm currently listening to some chilled dubstep. Under These Conditions (Original Mix) - Late lol sup
  9. oldfags cant troll
  10. moar negs for me it seems. perhaps dennis the menace shouldnt delete his comments. its a forum ffs. let your roar be heard. too soft for the online world it seems. now, the issue at hand. once a windows laptop goes through a ton of optimisation and disabling of services/graphical enhancements/removal of unnecessary software both will perform the same. from where i stand (i work in IT/hate windows7/use windows xp for producing and run a macbook pro) i find OSX so much more pleasant to use. While both will crash (they're computers, its inevitable) I find OSX to be alot more tolerant and because Macs are uniform in their design, theres no need to worry about incorrect drivers or device incompatibility. My friend is running traktor pro on his xp laptop with CDJ400s. he need asio drivers to use them and after that, ran into all sorts of hassles with drivers and devices. we plugged them into my mac out of interest and after setting traktor up, that was it. no dramas. I plan to avoid windows laptops for good now, because of my experience with a macbook pro, compared to a windows one. While I still use windows xp at home for production, I'll avoid any other version, as its just bloatware full of unnecessary crap and unintuitive operation. Until microsoft puts out something thats as efficient as OSX, i remain a stubborn xp/OSX user. oh, and Have a nice day! only if ur the bomb squad
  11. why? too afraid to voice your opinion on the interwebs? maybe its because you realise that when it comes to DJing and performing live, Mac OSX will always outperform any windows version.
  12. The best place Cupe, would be somewhere like youtube. Its often handy to grab a free sample pack or something to help you create some sounds. Theres plenty of tutorials around and you'll learn quickly from watching someone explain/demonstrate the basics. Theres a very steep learning curve involved with Ableton and it will take a while to get your head around, but once you do, it becomes fairly straightforward. The biggest advantage to Ableton is its Sesson view which is typically used for performing live and DJing. Its a completely different methodology to standard DJing but you'll begin to see the benefits after a while.
  13. grrr i'd jump on that Audio8 if i could afford it atm.
  14. calm down bro. I've read the book so I thought i'd offer a bit of info on it. I'm happy to write a tutorial on something. even if it is just to get my rep back in the +ve
  15. thats what she said
  16. My beatport crate is currently at $110. If I look at the Cr2 specials it'll just double.
  17. Maybe all these sale items could be merged into one thread? (not telling you how to run your board) but half the General DJ Forum is currently threads about single books.
  18. I think the majority of DJ tuition is now presented online via youtube and various subscription based services. I think the fundamentals found in the original DJ books are still valid today, however they arent up to date with today's technology. A new one would be ideal. But its also a daunting task when you think about the crazy amount of options available to today's up n coming DJ. It'd be a big ass book!
  19. This was one of the first items I purchased when I was learning. Its very informative. However it is starting to show its age when it describes the CDJ1000 MK1 as new technology. The fundamentals are covered in good detail though and it goes on to explain tips for the industry and promoting yourself.
  20. I used to have an issue with the notorious sync button. Until I saw an interview with Richie Hawtin, and he was explaining how having his traktor decks sync'd meant he could use that time saved to perform other tasks, and keep 5 other instances of Live/Traktor in time for the Contakt shows. Now I have no problem with the sync function AS LONG AS the DJ is using that time saved to perform other tasks and improve their overall set. Otherwise its just a copout.
  21. must. resist. urge. to. yell.
  22. I think Dennis is just getting his post count up. This whole 'DJ' has caused more of a stir in recent times than ever before. Hell, on a road trip, the person with the ipod called the DJ. At the end of the day, most DJs are going to be working for the same cause, and if they're passionate, then does it really matter what they're using? I think the line between DJ and Live Performer has been blurred and we need to start realising that, and becoming accustomed to different methodologies.
  23. laptops have hard discs? not to be a whiny bitch... but the term DJ is now used to refer to the dude in the booth at the club.
  24. i'll hang on to that +rep all good. all this trolling Dennis has made me pretty cynical here. I'll admit I did misinterpret your post. I just read it as another 'Long live Vinyl' 'laptop djs are terrible' argument. each to their own. but i read your reply and see where you're coming from now. thread needs more happy.
  25. pretty sure i already gave you a serve in that cdj vs vinyl thread. but sure, im just a bag of smiles, happy to help out.
