  1. ^ good thread gentlemen, thought us old basterds had took it over for a while but glad to see a classic is a classic whatever era it's from.
  2. ^ if you got the money mate! one big dif between 800s and 1000s: no hot cues, just auto loops. this really pisses me off when I get on a set. Dont know how the 900s do but they look like auto loops to me. I love hot cues.
  3. hey man nice set up... word of advice tho: that case clearly wasnt built for that mixer, get some extra foam or something stuck in down the sides to stop it wobbling about in transit. If it wobbles with the cables attached at the back it will damage the cable connectors.
  4. ^one of my earliest influences, my dad had kraftwerk and jean michel jarre as my only examples of electronica as a lad. grubs up now tho, i'm off for sure this time. the young uns gonna hate this thread ey?
  5. some heads thought dmob was sold out but i loved it. noticed that hump you track but it didnt register, must have subliminally been looking for jbs since then! lol
  6. haha fuct thread is exciting thread. you know guns of brixton by the clash? original b-line to dub be good to me. all class eggs. Still buzzing of my acid house flashbacks here tho.
  7. wow, that's a blast from the past! reminds me off this: and this: and this: omg, steve silk hurley, mr fingers, it's all coming flooding back. oh ok, one more:
  8. ^^ chev: hahahahaha, spot on mate. eggs: yer ride on time rocks. i mix between loleatta and ride on time at weddings. works well. needs some vocal mice to make it work too
  9. mann, i really should be working but these emails keep dropping... The funny thing about the garage scene was the scene and the shows and the parties were gritty and underground but once the clubs got hold of it they all went trendy... same thing happened to house at the same time so I figured it was more to do with the time than the music. I may be wrong, i usually am. M.A.W. = masters at work? surely bro? and eggs: lovin the tight pants track haha... and black box... but you know ride on time is just loleatta holaways "love sensation" ripped to shreds yeah? one of the first tracks to get 100% slammed for copyright infringement i think.
  10. reading round is good. There's a lot of knowledge in these threads. Quick info specific to your q tho: IMO I would concentrate on good cd dex and just a bog standard mixer (eg numark m4) until you know what you want to do. Too many folk get distracted by all the shit their mixer can do and forget to lock down the basic skill of mixing 1st. you can always upgrade your mixer once you know how to use your decks - you'll also have a better idea what style mixer you want.
  11. ^ gorgeous music mate. I remember that era, i used to iron my shirt to get into the clubs coz it all got dressed up post rave... wouldnt go if they had a "no trainers" policy though M.A.W. fan? been trying to find my fav but there's too much on youtube, need to work now anyway, peace brother.
  12. same era as above: my era.. God i'm such a cheesy raver. I know there has been good music released since but you asked for my classics. i'll stop now.
  13. ^safe. This track may sound weak to any young headz but this tune was often saved as the last song after the lights had gone on in all the best clubs. I'm talking 1991/92. Big tune. I'm a cheeseball but it still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
  14. sorry to be thick but "EDM"? my best guess = electronic dance music? what does it really mean?
  15. ^this is pretty much the best way to approach it all mate. A lot of folk I know use one of the following methods as a starting point: you can try plugging an instrument in and playing over you're djing by doing solos and stuff? or you can record a riff or hook to use as a loop as the basis for your own tracks, then dj beats etc along to it and build up the other elements of your own song. or you can use your own instruments to build up your own song then just dj with it. Basically: think of the dex as another musician in a band you're playing with it, but with the advantage that they will only do what you want. There is a lot of crossover between the above three starting points and there are no rules so you see: fucking around with it is by far the best method.
  16. i only mess with prod but sausage fattener is cool. i also like rop papen sub boom bass. have no idea how to link to it so you'll have to google for yourselfs. p.s. would this include Native instruments stuff? if so Battery replaced my MPC a few months ago and rocks my tiny fragile brain. All the hip hop heads cringe at replacing MPC with VST...?
  17. ^ cool guys. wazza: cheers man... but your 909 is bust: ooo that hurts man, 909 rocks. It's the only thing I'm gonna miss it when I move out to the numark ns6 soon. Eggs: I would love to jam with you bro. If we ever did just remember I only have one rule: rule 1: "there are no rules" Kyle: I had a lobotomy last weekend so renamed myself something stupid mate, that's all.
  18. ^ cheers man. yeah the "change!" subtitle was put there as a warning. The whole mix is linked here: http://soundcloud.com/djim-1/jim-1st-mi ... ok-testing I bet you spot all bits i think are shit but i'd appreciate comments anyway. BTW: Do you mean the scratching with vox? the bits like "put your hands up? early on in this clip"? I never thought of scratching words as any different to sounds but i suppose they are. Anyway that's why i didn't know what your vocal mice were about lol!
  19. ^I'm 37. Glad to know there are other headz out there who are still headz after all these years. Sometimes I cant help but think it's just the crew I know, and there aren't many of us! lol at eggs' forum etiquette comment too.
  20. ^ thanks kyle, i'm such an amateur! Still don't think you'll get audio on part 2 due to the copyright thing but here's part 3: no issues reported my end with this one. anyone know how you find out exactly which tune it is that is infringing copyright? I'll want to swap it for something different if I redo this mix.
  21. dunno if this will work, youtube says audio disabled due to copyright issue but it plays ok for me so thought i'd chk embedding it. edit: derp, it didnt work, audio was disabled.
  22. ^wazza that isnt what i mean. because you are into the current technology and still checking new sounds you are def not an old fart IMO. Old farts are the ones too busy toe-ing the line to find anything new to get into. So they waste their breath reminiscing instead. BTW: we've gone seriously off topic for this mister meaners original question lol.
  23. ^you can tell, in a very good way.
  24. ^ i'm with you on that eggs, I hate old heads who drag their heels whinging on about how great it all used to be... They're missing the whole point of the whole movement. my comments on the techs are for build quality alone. my comments on hip hop are for it's timeless philosophies, nothing to do with the music.
  25. Cant see the link. From the POV of the business: It is hard pricing one to one tuition. There are premises costs and taxes/insurances as regular costs after you've forked out for all your kit and advertising. Plus any session without a booking is instant lost money when you cant do anything else with your time but your still paying out for your premises etc. To make it work as a business I realised i'd have to charge so much that I wouldnt get any customers so moved to working with groups etc... I did used to let people work as a pair to save money so maybe worth giving them a call if you have a willing mate?
