^ why, i've even heard some bands put the drummer at the front.. someone called the beat-les? i dont know, it'll never catch on.

yer i think pioneer missed a trick when they replaced hot cues with auto loops. novation dicer FTW in this scenario. -would be good to have a standalone unit without the need for a laptop tho, good thinking djaz.

I recommend concentrating on getting good with just two songs. Each time you play them together you'll have a better idea of how they should sound matched. This will give you more chance of getting it right quicker. This will let you hear how they sound while they're on the way to being right. ...Then you can transfer that knowledge to more tunes by adding them one at a time. Two copies of the same thing is a good 1st step but once you get them right they'll "phase" which is a confusing sound that won't happen on other mixes so don't dwell on it. Also when listening to two tunes at once it can be hard to make out the kick drums amongst all the bass that may involved so I prefer to listen to snares. FYI: "phrasing" is very different to "phasing". beware of typos regarding these two terms. "Phrasing" is where you match the riff or melody or some repeating musical pattern in a song to a "phrase" in another song which is the same length. It won't happen without beats being matched but while a beat can repeat every bar a phrase may last for 4 or more bars. It is a more musical and advanced way of mixing so for now concentrate on getting the kicks and snares to land simultaneously. "Phasing" is the cancellation of certain frequencies because you're speakers are trying to reproduce exactly the same thing twice and they cant handle it. You've probably heard of the "phaser" sound effect which reproduces this without you needing two copies? good luck.

via dvd rite? if you know qbert i'm coming for lessons too... P.S. DVDs were'nt invented when i learnt to scratch, and i've learnt nothing new in 15 years, havent had time... All the guys who have learnt since all the tutorials have been around often end up sounding the same to me... all i'm saying is: if you find one of the techniques on your dvd hard to master just put it away... get your head down and go for it instead... you may discover you're own style
-
^ cheers blud, get in there and on it mate. "tickle/ wigga wigga/ dibby dibby" -these are all the technical terms you'll ever need to know

link to this sarah chick so we dont all go over what you already know...

^ they trying to save money on warm up djs by getting wannabes to fill the slot... it's an old trick... or could be a real opportunity for the right dj... LOL at djaz pic^

I used to use a really low concentration of washing up liquid in very lukewarm water. (like 1 drop washing up liquid to a whole tub of water)... and trust me i had to clean some vinyl. Had about 400 left on the basement floor once when the bath overflowed... all 400 had tide marks where the cardboard sleeves had left their gunk... The secret to cleaning vinyl is to follow the path of the needle so all the muck ends up in the centre. NEVER SCRUB SIDEWAYS ACROSS THE GROOVES. but i'm sure this new chemical is better, it costs more

It's great to have another bread-winning mobile dj on here. looking fwd to your input mate.

^OM fookin G! wot a post by duracell I've seen that b4 but only surrounded by hyped nutters so I couldnt concentrate. What a watch! Couple things it's made me think about tho: 1) he does needle drop once at 1.36 ish.... notice how sick he does it while still scratching a beat perfectly with his other hand, unbelieveable control to do something so unrythmic with one hand while doing something so on beat with the other. 2) He doesnt change vinyl once. Neither do the DJs on a few of these posts... makes me think they are pressing wax specifically with all the sounds they need in the right order so apart from the needle drop I mentioned in note 1 above the whole needle drop/ record change skill is no longer a factor... so they could use DVS? 3) when he does his jesus pose at the beginning is anyone else seeing how his shoulders and back will not straighten up fully? I guess that man spends A LOT OF TIME hunched over those platters and will suffer for his art. Anyway: That was amazing, it's back to the drawing board for me.

cheers man, getting me head round it now so here you go: Jim 1st mix on macbook testing boundaries 1 by djim edit: god that beat juggling warm up/intro is so ruff, in fact, i'm gonna delete this as soon as I can redo it. Scruffy mix is scruffy when you really listen to it. Learnt a fair bit about video/subtitles/youtube etc so it was worth doin but the mix is not cool IMO.

nice try eggs... as i said i replaced it... sold on with a 1210 to raise the funds for the NS6 which i am reliably informed is finally in this country, even if it isnt in my shop! Seriously tho: it felt weird selling Mike (that's what i called my MPC). We had some great times and its a great piece of kit, especially if you're touring. but actually programming, trimming samples or doing any preperation on it is such a geek-fest pain in the arse it was always a love/hate relationship. -

^fair nuff -
Well, final instalment only because you tube has issues with part 5. Seriously: anyone know how hard it is to find exactly which track you tube can't handle? I'll remove it and redo if i know but they just disable audio on a whole 5 track mix so i dont know shit. Anyway: here's part 4... audio at soundcloud, link somewhere in adjf. little info on the whole mix: 41minutes, went from 105 bpm to 140 bpm using 17 songs and 3 scratch samples. All freestyle, some major train-wrecks along the way and far too much scratching.

ok... so no remixes of these tracks allowed, i understand.... but how about adding other tracks to do live remixes of these or to use bits as scratch samples? Not adding tracks to play, just to mash up with these ten. and is there a deadline? I have many ideas and v little time. lovin that mad deep rollin "fuk dat shit" tune. Propa 8 am house music right there. -
^Haha, It's all love mate, welcome to adjf.

^ yeah... context can be a tricky kettle of fish. There is a title to the thread above capsss description of it tho. edit? I see you.

Some real nice RELEVANT posts amongst the filler mate. there are other threads for sound engineering, production performances, cakes, cats and cars though

I live for and love hot cues on my 1000s and have never ever saved any. I dont even have the crappy cards to do this on. Always set on the fly or you run the risk of always doing the same mix and thus losing your creativity. ...that said i kinda like the way traktor saves them automatically but I often delete them anwyay to reset them on the fly. each to their own tho.

hey gandy... while we're on games: did you say you finished fall out las vegas? I'm enjoying playing it but wonder how you "finished it"? I find that if i kill someone or other I lose the ability to take part in several missions they would have sent me on (eg ceaser, mr house etc)... so I cant see how I would complete the whole thing.... I'm only playing for fun but dont want to miss any good missions. whts the word bro? am i missing something?
-
haha, cheers capsss, bet you cant believe I'm on the poverty line and getting income support then ey? If I could find a thousand headz like you maybe i'd be able to finally make a living playing only what i love! srs man, I really appreciate the feedback.
