  1. ok, last night hit rock bottom: i was a paid agency dj so i shouldnt give a toss... but there was no one there. srs. the promoters thought they'd done their job but they were well wrong. NOT ONE CUSTOMER. so I had a blast with the beatport top 10 for an hour then went home with my dolla, two hours early coz the promoter nobs gave up too!
  2. WORRRD! SO down with that man! ^i concur with the right honourable gentlemen's previous comments. But for Sol: IMO camp fire smoke is better than cig smoke which is better then smoke machine smoke which is better than any febreeze/air freshener which is better than beer spills which is better than puke... so i would say if you cant bud it up... live with it bro.
  3. i thought it said "DGAH" I figured that was the noise andyman makes when he cums?
  4. yeah gandy, these two fit like gloves goof. or put your hand up for detroits with destination calabria. ...be sure you get the full mix so you get the 16 bars or so of just drums as intro. If it takes longer than that intro of just beat to do restart it from beat 1 again. This way you'll not run the risk of bass and other instruments confusing things plus you get loads of practice cueing and counting in.
  5. ^doesnt sound like it helped that much then ey? if two songs have more than about a 12 bpm difference i find the standard technics picth fader wont go far enough. what you using? other idea: use two tunes you've heard mixed before. Pick one of your fav mixes from some other djs mix and get those two tunes and try with them. At least you'll know what you're listening for. did anyone mention patient practise yet? you'll get it tho.
  6. oh yeah.... just to let you know what you're up against: Longest time spent in exactly same buttgroove on sofa = 39 hours... I didnt even notice, one of my housemates timed me from getting in from a club at 4am on a fri eve. didnt move but didnt sleep either until sunday when i needed a crap! aaa, them were the days.
  7. ^ haha crundyy, you're the laziest WHALE out ey? I'm the u.k.s brightest hope for gold in the olympic couch potato comp! GANDY: no one has called me jimbo in years mate, nice 1, brought back some rare memories.
  8. Tonight I have 300 under 18s in their local community hall. Opening night of a monthly event that my agent has organised. hope they like proper bass coz that's what they're gonna get. tmrw is annual youth festival for my county. 5000 under 18s. I host a marquee all day with 4 cdjs and 2 techs where anyone can have a go/ get a quick taste of djing then: silent disco in a dif marquee for two hours to fin the eve. It's a mad hectic day i've done 5 years running but one of the food stalls does great kebabs... at least it's not a wedding, and i'll be home by midnight both nights so might go out after.
  9. firefox or chrome on pc, both equally bad IMO but both better than IE8, not tried 9. safari on mac rocks but never tried on pc. I always get bummed out coz it seems whatever you go for you'll still need IE as nothing else will work windows update. someone tell me there's a way round this?
  10. srs job gets more srs work if you do it well mate. You are not much older than some of the kids and if it is in your area then any kid who hears you do good at their school will make you their first choice for birthdays etc. plus no better way to advertise to mums and dads that you are available for weddings etc too. then as you get older so will the school class so instead of toeing the line for the govt and all that shit you end up with a ready made rep and get loads of 18ths, 21sts etc etc. I guess what i'm saying is: The licenses and eqpt certs you'll need for this job are no cost or hassle at all compared to trying to get known via advertising. Take the gig, toe the line, consider it an advertising strategy that also pays you and gets you legit instead of a hassle.
  11. on mine it happened auto - after uploading video youtube thinks for a while then displays wether the audio has any copyright infringements. On some it said: "this video is banned in some countries" on others it just said "audio disabled" but on none did it say which songs were causing the problem. I guess it's a shazam similar tech (like djaz says) that recognises songs then cross references with a database of tracks that labels have said they wont allow. I ain't whingeing coz i understand copyright, i'm also still amazed at the ability of technology to let us do any of this. I just wish they could be specific about which songs are causing the issue.
  12. ^ i explain it to students as follows: 1) the pitch fader is like setting cruise control in a car. it will stay at whatever speed you set it. 2) nudging the platter or pressing a pitch bend button is a temporary increase or decrease in speed when needed, just like stepping on the brake or accelerator in your car - once you take your foot of the speed returns to where it was set by cruise control, or in this analogy the pitch fader. To take the analogy a step further the idea of beatmatching is to get your car (which represents 4 beats of a bar) exactly alongside another car, driving at exactly the same speed so the bumper (or 1st beat of each bar) reaches the next white dash on the road at exactly the same time of the other car, and continues to do so until you stop it. To do this you set your cruise control exactly the same speed as the other car then accelerate or brake until your bumpers are perfectly lined up. Of course in beatmatching you dont know the other cars speed so you actually brake and accelerate to keep up with the other car while altering your cruise control so you need to brake and accelerate less and less to keep in line. If you extend the analogy even further and imagine a train pulling loads of carriages then each carraige represents a bar of 4 beats and you can start to explain phrase mixing. But this wont make much sense to many of you and i've still not managed to think of a way of explaining this theory with pictures. + rep to anyone who understands this nonsense and can correctly point out at which point the analogy falls apart.

  14. a few years ago i used to tour and record with a band called "the bluefoot project", we released 2 e.p.s and an album, got bbc radio 1 play and did glastonbury festival a few times... but then the husband + wife team who set it up divorced. This recording is an edit of unreleased rehearsal room takes that a few us did to help ease the hangover when it all stopped. Probably my proudest moment in music so far and much better than any of the "real" recordings they got of me on the released material, even though sound quality is rubbish. thought i'd post for any feedback etc coz i know you lot will tell it like it us. 01 compilation by djim
  15. apologies if this should be in a dif thread... I've posted a few vids now via youtube. some of them have had audio disabled in certain countries and some of them have had all the audio disabled for everyone due to copyright issues. thing is it doesnt tell me which song is causing the problem. If i knew i could redo the mix without that song and repost... anyone know how you find out exactly which track is causing the copyright issue? p.s. soundcloud has no issue with the whole mix... does this mean i'm gonna get sued or am i getting away with it? If no one knows can anyone suggest where i can look to research this? cheers
  16. ^thinking about this wasnt it fabdj who said he had done a bit f name copyrighting? not sure if he was joking but one thing 4 sure: there be other people who know a lot more than me.
  17. fuk knows. good idea is good idea tho. Write it up and send to pioneer as a suggestion but also send a copy to yourself. DO NOT OPEN YOUR COPY, keep it somewhere safe and the postmark on it will act as proof of when you offered the idea out... that way if they ever do release it without admitting you came up with it you'll have a point to make in court if you want to take it that far. It may not mean shit and it may not be worth shit but as far as i know that's the most you can do without getting investment and trying to DIY it. Of course, this doesnt guarantee they havent already thought of it but not put it into production yet.
  18. each time you get it it gets a little easier mate
  19. nice mix mate.
  20. ^ haha, copyright the idea as intellectual property mate. It is a good idea, someone may know how to do it but you thought of it 1st.
  21. sol mate you look pro, nice 1
  22. ^ man not been here in a while, jealous of source.. is that a room in your house mate or do you hire a studio space.... that setup is dope.
  23. ^ one thing no one has mentioned so far that may really piss you off: ...the closer you are to getting it right the harder it is to tell which track is too fast or too slow... Especially if you're using two copies of same beat... Are you using headphones in classic DJ style? i.e. one ear monitoring the tune you are trying to match, the other ear listening to the speaker that is playing the tune you are already playing? this way at least you have the option of singling out which way to nudge... The reason bpm counters cannot be relied upon is because they only display integers/whole numbers. This means if one tune is 128.3 bpm and the other is 127.8 they will both display as 128. That's why you need to train your ear. and giving up for the night is fine. No one is cracking a whip mate. When I had had enough beatmatching I would scratch shit out of stuff, even if it sounded rubbish. Or i'd go massacre some innocents on GTA.
  24. ^hmmm, but they were only industry standard as there was no competition until the early 90's. and then when there was competition for vinyl turntable there was also the introduction of CDJ technology so the whole issue became confused.. so not really a fair comparison to make I feel. I've said before that I'd still stand up for the build quality of the techs and that personally I prefer them. I used to sell them and we never got techs returned for repairs that weren't casued by the user... but we got lots of stantons returned for all kind of wear and tear issues. I just wouldnt let imbalanced statistics sway your opinion on this question.
  25. 7 inch single = shurikan/ninja throwing star rite? shellac = the stuff left on the path when you've trod on a garden snail.
