looks like future to me boss, good on ya.

"where ignorance predominates vulgarity invariably asserts itself" i had to write that out about a million trillion times during my school life as punishments from one of the staff. stuck with me tho.

this always happens, we (djs) are at the cutting edge of music, they (venue owners) are at the blunt spud of selling grog. we have to do what they want, they have to listen to us, there is a time lag between our knowledge and them recognising we are right so they are always a bit behind. I just try and keep it peaceful along the way. That way i can bite the bullet sometimes for the money - but then use the money to push things forward on my own events.

big up, found this str8 away: http://www.nuskooldj.com/schools def worth me aksing them on mon morn. +rep source. p.s. regarding names for soldios: no doubt he needs to keep same name throughout his career but there is no harm in also going off on a tangent into new genres/types of party under a dif name. Sasha (the original one) norman cooke (beats international, fat boy slim, etc etc) and several other players have done this and it really works. Some do it when they have become famous to prove to themselves that their music is gaining the credit not just their rep, some just do it to release other material that their main fanbase wouldnt dig, eg beastie boys punk albums.

big up. foot in the door mate. next time remember sat night is the biggest payer for the owner and the promoter so they want to follow the formula, they may have an easier/different reaction if you go back on a wed/thur?

ok, maybe not so amazing after all: http://www.drumjokes.com/

ok, old thread and i am in another country but i believe most of the copyright rules are getting globalised in some sense so... a lot of djs post mixes etc on soundcloud and dont think twice about copyright. they get away with it because there is no income and so although they are in breach of law it is not economically viable for record company to bring a court case up. If no money has been earnt how can they collect fines? personally i am on both sides of the coin: i dont produce as such but i am due royalties for sessions and other input done with bands on album recordings. as these are small bands I am fully aware how little the copyright royalty earns me, and this makes me more adamant that i will pay for music to promote the makers of it to make more. Without income for music we'd all need day jobs too. i also dj though and its my living so i have ppl, prs and produb license (uk versions of aria etc, especially the produb license which lets me use traktor and other digital files.) I also have liability insurance, eqpt insurance and all my kit has to be properly cased and tested for safety. I will post re-edits, mixes etc and consider myself advertising my skills along with the original artist, safe in the knowledge that i did pay for the song first, but if i am using a chunk of a tune as a sample on a new record i am releasing for income i sure as hell apply for sample clearance first through the standard routes, thing is: occasionlly the original muso lets you use it free anyway if they like your work.

fuk, thats amazing, that is exactly the joke i was gonna reply with! ok, how do you know when the drummer is at the door? the knocking speeds up and he comes in too early.
-
Yeah it did, it answered "yes, I have" nice. really i wish i had something better to do with my day today but anyway: andy: you gig a bit from what i can tell, got any good drummer jokes?
-
and dont worry, i wont mention you.
-
dude, thats great. when i put my professional head on i'll be spamming http://www.whs.sa.edu.au/ to see what i can find out about it all. thanks again buddy.
-
ooos, soz soldios, cant find much about him, whats the name of the school mate?
-
hey no worries, if the PM didnt work you didnt even know, but you've sorted me know. nice 1 + rep.
-
hey dude... you never answered my P.M. i really want to know the contact details for your old school where you had that dj lesson that inspired you.... thats the work i do in the uk and i really need to know how its done in oz... please please please, just the school address, your teachers name, or the dj's name. p.s. loving the youtube show, you are keeping it real bro, props for that. oh, and a question for ya channel: what do djs do? it seems an ez question but think on: radio dj, function dj, scratch dj with band, there are lot of routes for a dj that dont involve being a superstar. all of these routes can supply income while you're waiting for a big break. ad keep you away from 9-5. but they all require their own skills and knowledge.

lovin this thread you old soaks... oops

ok, that isnt much to go off but here's some ra: 1st things 1st: dont go building or buying anything until you've decided what ur doing with ur mixer. the m212 and the m4 look like dif sizes so any case will need to be changed if you change mixer. although: you could get standard flightcases for the dex for now, these retail at £75 each in uk for solid aluminium, bit cheaper for steel corners but plastic faces. http://www.htfr.com/c/122/flightcases/m/85081/5st and: http://www.swanflight.com/dj-flightcase ... cases.html main retailers are gator and swan, stucco, some others, but these are uk, dunno about oz. what is really important is that the case has some padding foam in the lid of the case so that when it is closed the platter is stopped from turning, ideally you also want a way of keeping cables neat and unable to flop around and damage tone arm etc. I cut a gap in the foam in the lid and stuff plug in it, this keeps most things from flapping about. Always remove carts form tonearms during transport. If you choose a coffin style case you will need 2 people to lift it, and it wont fit in many smaller cars without pushing the seats down. if you are making your own the most common materials for the box are aluminium, plastics or carpeted ply for the faces, steel corners for the corners and riveted handles, i would seriously recommend researching the foam that the main manufacturers use. It is tough enough not to squish up and result in gaps between kit and foam over time but still squishy enough to withstand knocks by absorbing shocks to the external box. there's some products here: http://www.terralec.co.uk/hardware/cove ... 27_0c.html but i cant tell you which is the right one, i just rem the guy who built mine going on and on about the properties of the foam: his catchphrase was "a flightcase is for life" the lovable old geek. with turntbable cases weight is gonna be one of the major issues, i know a lad who made a case for one deck and a seperate case for the other deck and mixer. this was a nice workable solution. the real benefit of a coffin case is that all stays wired up which = less messing on arrival at gig sorting it all out but also = less solder wear on internal side of connections. ( in case you didnt know: each time you attach/detach cables externally they wear out the solder a little internally as you wiggle and twist etc.) coffins are often seen in venues or where road crews are available on big tours etc. not so good for solo players. nightmares on stairs. on the plus though if you do go for a really solid coffin you can sleep on it if you have to: off the ground, and guaranteed your gear is safe. the handles you choose if building your own need to be strong enough and fitted well so they dont come off under the weight. wheels are a nice idea but rattle and shake along the floor really stresses internal components from what i've heard. If you are looking for a way of protecting cases that may be moved by others (roadcrews?) and require insurance you will really need to buy proper, otherwise you'll have to proof how solid your diy jobs are to the insurer, that is a pain. if you are doing diy a v quick method is to build a box to the dimensions of the retail packaging and use the foam from in it, slight mod maybe as you wont need to dismantle the dex the way they are for retail, p lus the foam wont last long as isnt built for it but then you can replace foam with the real stuff. i know people whove done this as its worked ok, although the cases always end up bigger than they need to be1 any help?
-
I havent but i've had a few custom made for me. from what i understand there is a case that protects your shit, you can make yourself with a few diy skills and some foam. then there is a case which will be recognised as "roadworthy" by insurers and which means you are actually covered in the case of an accident. the official cases have high spec, high quality foam and are built with respect to not applying pressure to the top of cdj platters but do hold vinyl platters from spinning. there are quite few issues depending on the kit etc. obviously insurance may not be your concern, or it may be dif in oz, or maybe you just want handles on stuff so it's easier to carry... what you after: what kit you carrying? details = info.
-
hmmm, but that platter discussion is really relevant, it relates to the resolution of ticks you have at your access, bigger platters = more precision without a doubt. It is especially relevant on usb controllers and all the so called "vinyl emulation" cd players so maybe it does deserve it's own thread? but i still do know wot you mean too. speed is of the essence lol.

hmmm if you cant play the songs folk want when they are paying you to then you will need a day job too. do you think barmen like every drink they serve? or chefs like every dish? i work shit gigs and just put up with it coz the rate of pay leaves me able to do other things like gigs i do like for free.without needing to be a wage slave 9 to 5. re drinks near kit: i just walk up to whoever put the drink down, pick the drink up and politley put it on the floor, saying nothing, very humble but giving them a smile and a thumbs up. If the music stops while you are doing this all the better, Even in the middle of a speech yes. the more people see the more will soon recognise you are polite but will not risk electric shocks/total destruction of your gear and most folk will understand this. i must get bored of sticking my oar in soon but at least its about djing...

i bet you look quite cute dont you sol? if you're a fat, old, grey, ugly twat like me dont dance, at all, ever, seriously. seriously good knowledge in this thread but a few tips i didnt notice above: remember the brides mum is gonna be prob even more emotional than the bride. be nice to her however ripped, grumpy, tearful, bossy, unreasonable or mental she is. Your wage may depend on it. Generally play requests if you can but if you get a really crap request you just know is gonna kill the mood do try and pass it by the bride/groom 1st. They may say ok in which case it's their fault when the party dies and they already know about it. More likely they tell you not to play it and that cousin john who asked for it is a dick anyway.

aye, wot eggs said: plus for me it's just easier to carry and find tracks than using boxes of vinyl or loads of cds. I am waiting for a new controller to land in the uk and as it has dedicated controls i may discover some more and repost in next few weeks if you're still interested?

my 2cents: chat boxes are pretty ez but divert forum posts and result in less of those posts where people manage to make a complete cock of themselves by typing something they really didnt think about but posted away. i know from experience obviously but also love learning from my mistakes so prob wouldnt chat too much!
