hey karma: I dont want to piss you off mate but rem that info i gave about the technics on ebay you were looking at? I'm sorry to say the same issues apply to all second hand turntables. Guys down there may say you have a more trusting community an it's all good to buy from ebay but i would never buy 2nd hand turntables without a good 1-2hour soak test and a decent check that everything was working.

is pretty useful to see itch.

I dont know if it;s called clone deck but there is a thing called "deck focus" basically you can set your midi map and other controls (including timecode i think) so they all switch which deck you are controlling in the software by simply making the software deck you want the "focus deck" and that is as ez as highlighting it on the screen. cant vouch for how well this works or if setting it up is a midimap nightmare as I've never actually tried it.

hmmmmm. two things: 1) Now that i've been educated by wiki (thanks eggsell, i did check for myself) this thread: http://www.ausdjforums.com/modules.php? ... c&start=15 is from now on to be renamed "djims trolling thread" 2) some of you really could've cut sol some slack. He's a young gun and needs info not opinion, IMO. I know you've had to tell him same thing a few times but crikey, the lad is looking for a reason not to spend mega bucks, and he's had some hard knox recently (eg discovering his cd players dont play .wav whatever that was about). Also lets rem he posted the amazing sycophants thread: http://www.ausdjforums.com/modules.php? ... c&start=15 which we did love really. big up sol, maybe you need to shop somewhere else (not JBS) and you may want to read replies well so you dont get told the same stuff over and over but you're alright mate. Keep on trucking. i trollticon

knew i had something with that centrefold tune in it, managed to dig out the mini edit I've embedded above. It's from a scruffy, live, real wedding gig where i will have been taking requests and all the other stuff that distracts me.

It's all good, i'm up to speed on the controllers now, what i need to know is the differences in the software. I use traktor, controlled by cdj1000s at the mo does anyone use Itch who can tell me what it's like 1st hand? or even better: does anyone use both and can tell me the differences between the two? I'm bluefoot in this thread from itch forum if you want to see where i'm at so far. http://serato.com/forum/discussion/434073 cheers.

anyone got their head round both traktor and itch? i've been on itch forums and am getting an idea about it but wonder if any1 here has any knowledge... specifically any info on the differences between the two software systems eg: -i've heard you cannot midi map in itch, -that traktor will not respond to the new gen of high resolution controllers which are built for realistic scratching (numark ns6, ns7) even though it will respond to the s4 (which has jog wheels so small it must have been designed for children IMO) -that the browser on itch is more "intuitive" ----- WTF? so who knows both systems and what are the major differences in usability, accuracy, effects, browser etc.
-
ez all, is this worth a rethread or is it just another coke/pepsi question? coz i'm thinking the ns6 is the best choice for my new controller i've been on itch forums a bit to try and get my head round the major differences between traktor and itch. Eg -i've heard you cannot midi map in itch, -that traktor will not respond to the new gen of high resolution controllers which are built for realistic scratching (numark ns6, ns7) even though it will respond to the s4 (which has jog wheels so small it must have been designed for children IMO) -that the browser on itch is more "intuitive" ----- WTF? so who knows both systems and what are the major differences in usability, accuracy, effects, browser etc.

just in case anyone follows this thread and needs to work this bit out: tubby said: "Still haven't managed to fit it cos it needs a tiny right angled screwdriver that I haven't found yet" there is info on this thread about those right angle screwdrivers, and an unproved method of doing the job without one. http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184848 as far as that purchase goes: reckon you're makin the rite decision tho, good karma?

"Two working MK2 Technics Turntables, one is missing the grounding wire connection and the other is missing the arm holding clip, both both are in very good working order. Also, on Vestax mixer in good working order, has just been recently serviced. Prefer not to split the items, but will be open to suggestions. Postage will be to the succesful buyers costs and arrangement. Happy bidding." replacing the grounding wire is an internal fix, best done by technics/panasonic registered repair crew, unless you're a very good electrical engineer. It costs about £75 to replace grounding wire and audio outs last time i needed to do this in the uk (p.s. while the unit is opened up to replace the ground you may as well do the audio out too, the cost for the job is labour not parts) Arm clip is not really needed unless you transport your dex a lot, but can be done diy via: http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184848 A big issue with 2nd hand technics tho is wether they calibrate properly. Lots of djs try and mod their dex to make the pitch range go faster/further etc. THIS ALWAYS FUX THE CALIBRATION. calibration vid: but in your case dont try and re-calibrate by taking it apart and shit... just check if it is ok or not... if its properly calibrated you should be able to watch the strobe the fella in the vid talks about and it should stay still. Sit and watch for a while (like ten min or so if you can) to be sure. An important sign to look for is wether any screws on the units have been damaged and show signs that some novice has opened the units b4. If they have its not normally gonna result in good results. If a professional (i.e. someone who knows what they are doing) has opened them up he would have used the right tool and = no damage to screws, right? finally: I would ask for a soak test: i.e. get to play on them and play for an hour or two, check they respond the way you expect and keep going, once warmed up the mixer may show signs of distortion/static crackle on faders and pots that wouldnt be heard when just turned on. Personally i would not buy 2nd hand technics unless i got this chance to soak test and look them over in the flesh 1st but as your country is much larger than ours i understand that may be impossible... oh and how come the man has 3 dex in his picture? just trying to help bud,

ez hobberz, i use cdjs to beatmatch traktor, never sunk in my life. It worked str8 out the box just like on cdjs for me so i guess there's something not quite spot on with yours, dont reckon its you tho. first i would check If "master tempo" is off on the cdjs? then check your lag/delay and sample rate in settings or options and do the same for your soundcard (via your ni8 control panel). They all want to be as low as possible without causing audio dropouts. (sorry cant rem exactly where to find these on traktor, i keep picturing the ableton options screen coz have been working on that loads) Have all your tracks been analysed by traktor? If thats all good then it's something deeper so maybe you could post a bit more detail? I've a few ideas but dont want to confuse you by mistaking ableton for traktro while i'm talking about it. I'll fire up mine and nose around a bit when i've got a bit more info: eg: Does the music play but just not the way you expect or are you getting cutouts/static/distortion of any kind? Is the tempo wobbling like on most modified technics? You can tell very precisely by playing something you know is digitally quantised and just watching the bpm readout on the relevant deck view on traktor. It should stay on one exact number until you touch the platter or alter tempo on your cdj. After you've checked this check that the bpm readout on traktor does change as soon as you touch the platter or alter the pitch on your cdj. You shouldn't be able to see any delay between your touch and the readout response. Is the timecode signal all nice and fluffy eliptical circles in your options menu? (The manual has a section on setting up timecode and shows piccies of how they should look.) what soundcard are you using? what is your cpu/ram/version of traktor? what are your beatgrid settings? check options/settings and see if the little padlocks are locked or not in the deck details "beatgrid" section when a song is loaded. or of course you could always ask the NI forum. those german boys are pretty efficient. http://www.native-instruments.com/forum

Mrbig stuffdraft4 by djim was a bit of fun i had on ableton. my soundcloud profile has all kinds of nonsense on it that i need to embed in other places for work etc so dont judge me by that. no real dj mixes there, just mess about mash ups. but let me know what you think of the above and this next one: Tell you quirky disco reedit draft by djim both pretty different. i'll post some new mixes when i finally get my hands on my new controller but have posted a few more old tings up there just now

ah fudge, the waveform looks totally different above, no overloads visible at all at the 25 mark i'd gone to soundcloud and it looked massive on there. big up mate.
-
steady away mate. i'm only listening on laptop speakers so cant hear real detail but... the waveform looks like you've reached the peak level of your recorder at both the points you have made comments? What i mean is that the wave gets square at 12.46 and 25.07 - this square top to both sides of the wave is a sure sign that there was no headroom left and that you have started to overload/distort. I didnt hear anything bad in the mixing but if you got stressed about it at those points maybe you may have turned up to compensate perceived errors? Its a common dj technique and to avoid this overloading you could have used some compression/limiter somewhere pre recorder input? just wondering bro, enjoyed the mix.

read the whole thread for once. at gigs it's cdjs (coz they wont skip) controlling traktor in absolute mode/no syncing (coz I'm oldskool but want a large library thats ez to find the track i want in) with a hercules steel to browse and do fx and shit (coz everyone likes pushing buttons too)... but at my yard at my party: 1210s with original scratchy uk rave and jungle vinyls from 1989 to 1994. but... if.... and when i .... plus it may change soon so possibly..... ........aaaa, fuck it, option 1.

ooooo, never figured you for that lloyd! i would say feel free to try and mix, it doesnt have to be a 2minute beatmatch with dropins, eq, fx etc. But pitch them close, cut them nice (end of chorus to beginning of nxt songs verse, or end of break to next songs big intro sound etc), or beatmatch where an intro beat lasts 4 bars and it's gonna be easy. Pop tunes are a challenge but a dj adds energy to a party by putting energy in, especially when the songs wont do the work for him. Golden rule: the headphones are there for you to prepare and practise in. You may only have 3 min during a song to pick and prep the next one but try shit out in your cans, if it aint going to work revert to lloyds advice, if it's worth a go try it. The punters only hear what you let them hear remember. Just watch the best dancers and if they kept going you did well. have a go at home playlisting big songs together with a few cut points in mind to join them all together, if you're gettig no inspiration: the recognisable riff is a good place to cut to coz a lot of young kids (5 - 99) only dance if they know who is singing so they want to recognise the track str8 away.

ha ha, you dont ask you dont get, +rep 4 that anyway star. -
yeah mate, like the others said: a bit of ministry compilation might come in handy. or "now thats what I call music" if you get those? if it starts at 7 i guess you're expecting them to have some food? maybe some present giving/pinata/ party game nonsense? dont think you have to keep the music pumping in these bits. check with the client but my guess would be vary it up during any dif parts of the eve. And if they are doing food get a bellyfull. Save your killers for later when all are getting up for it, about half hour to an hour after any food has been served is normally long enough for folk to think about jumping around again. but dont leave your killers too late, by 2am i would guess you'll be playing slow songs for lovers, air guitar for the ripped boys and some sing along fun for the girls. At a 16th it doesn't have to be dance music all night, hence the pop compilations too. Last bit of advice which hopefully goes without saying: if a pretty girl asks for a request - play it. good luck guy

'tis true for sure. i been on djforums - the worldwide dj community and DJ techtools forum for a while now both are great for specific info about specific issues but without a phd in djing you gotta watch your step. not just for big whales putting you down but also for budding whales thinking they know more than they do and confusing you. this site is real, and sometimes even discusses dj related stuff lol. In fact i cant believe how much time i've spent on the fucker since i found it. first forum i've ever left open in the background on my pc just to see what's going on. so who does the +rep for this go to?
