seriously sol, if you search any dj forum anywhere on the net you will find lots of threads that say exactly the same thing as this one. Your best bet is to find and buy the accapella... if it does not exist it is not possible to exactly seperate vox from instrumentals as too many frequencies will be shared between the two... but you can try it anyway and you may be happy with the results. after all: see sig.

there is no better way to learn how to beatmatch manually IMO. the combination of incredible tactile control and instant response in audio is nearly equalled by cdjs and the best gen of controllers but only turntables wont even give you a bpm readout to get a clue off (unless you have one on your mixer). Eggs is right about cdjs having loads more functions too. CDJs have built and earnt their reputation by inspiring so many new styles of DJing which cannot be reproduced on vinyl alone. -In my tuition I start kids on cdjs coz they are tactile but wont skip. -When they get the swing of things we move to vinyl so they can work on their beat-matching. -Then we go back to cdjs and introduce controllers so they can get a grip on loops, cues, fx etc. -Then I let them choose how they want to specialise. -I get about 50/50 split between those who choose vinyl and those who choose digital. -Then we discuss the costs of running with one system or other and buying music over and over in the necessary format. -Things get weighted towards digital at that point. -Then I confuse them by bringing mixer functions into the equation! But I think starting this way helps them understand the differences in dex for themselves so they can make an informed decision later on. -It also helps them avoid a lot of forum thread debate lol! oh and i use and love everything, but havent bought vinyl this century.

just realised my post was a little empty without the link: http://www.thehi-life.co.uk/weddings.html

we've noticed a trend with weddings in the uk. the caterers, flower arrangers etc have been really cashing in and taking couples for a ride, and coz they all want to keep up with the joneses they go along with it 9 times out of 10. most seem to think of the reception party and music last and budget the least for it. I'm not sure why but i seriously suspect they think it's an easy job because they've been to so many functions where lazy or amatuerish djs do a rubbish job. so we set up a dedicated agency for couples who want the party to be the high point not the damp squib at the end of the night. We contract with them so they have at least 2 liason sessions with us personally and we allow them to stipulate and discuss ideas for mini mixes, gags etc etc. bespoke service basically, which is what we wanted to supply in the first place. But now we have a website that really tells people what we do we only get customers who recognise it and are willing to pay accordingly. well most of the time.

yer, chrome does that too doesnt it? I have 2 laptops and a netbook for office/admin type stuff. all used to be firefox but all have become chrome one by one. mainly because firefox interrupts to update so often, especially with it constantly offering plug-ins and stuff. Like i said, this morning was the final straw for the last machine. but ya know, each to their own.
-
i turned on this morn and firefox wanted to waste my time with an update. So i uninstalled it and put chrome on instead. just out of interest tho: didd yu reelly thing thatt sppell cheka wurked djaz?

YO STRIKE: chk yer personal messages mate.

yep, i thought you meant the 15"s were $700 new and you expected to pay $200 for them, but then when you got there they were actually 12"s. i didnt realise the 12"s would have been $700 new. bargain's a bargain mate.

yer your own worst critic mate that's right up my street, loving the ska off beats and the flow of energy over the duration of the mix. I could hear that out or sit in and listen to it. Nice cuts, nice builds, nice "pause for effect" at 5.30 IMO too

what were the first few episodes on? choosing a name? mobile or venue? unless i'v missed one i think you could do one on kit: what you use, what you wish you had, tips on setting up and moving it around. tips on buying?
-
is the correct answer.
-
urrr, from a shop or 2nd hand? either way there are trading standards against that sort of thing. Even if it was just a typo in the description. you be sure you're happy. For starters check how much the 12" would have been new? is it still a bargain? the lad who sold them may well be laughing his head off rite now and dodgy dealing salesmen really do piss me off, the more you let them get away with it the more they'll do it to others.

I've replaced the RCA at the end of a technics audio out loads of times. Buy a replacement connector, snip the cable, solder carefully. It's not hard but you'll need a patient/steady hand so if you arent used to soldering maybe practice on some spare cables. The connectors should be less than $1 so it's worth having a practise coz if you mess it up you'll have to snip the cable shorter and start again. BUt IMO: If it's an internal problem I would not attempt myself. I would get registered service for the whole unit. If it's got to be opened up you may as well get it done properly and have everything checked while the hood is up. Apart from being able to go back to the service engineer if there are still issues you also have a better chance of selling in the future if you keep the receipt for the service.

mate if everyone had that attitude about their work the world would be a much better place. It's putting the icing on top that makes a cake ey? even tho that came from your mentor you shared it here so I gotta + rep for that.

that too, yes. while we're here a roadie joke: why is duct tape and "the force" the same? they both have a light side, a dark side, and they hold the fabric of the universe together. -

ez, bit late answering the intro but i been bz sticking my nose in elsewhere. where in uk? i'm leeds and thinking of coming down there, any tips? and of course: welcome.
-
27 years? crikey mate, it's good to have more of the old skool around here. welcome!

it's a tricky one ey? earlier i was talking about playing backing music during people eating etc at functions. If you werent there the venue would pipe music through from itunes playlists or compilation CDs but you feel like a fraud having all that kit set up and just letting it play through a playlist. You know that later you will rock it as you should but when guests are eating it's not really appropriate. I think the customer is right at paying functions, and if that's what they want thats what they should get. Once they want a party and def if in a club/bar venue there is no excuse for pre or auto mixing tho. Personally: i get bored letting playlists roll on so I often mix/cut during meals anyway. It's funny when you discover frank sinatra can be cut quite smooth with jack johnson!
