Mate you doing very well for only one months of trying. it's all about practice but if you arent self-disciplined type dont beat yourself up. I used to put a tune on, do maybe 16 bars serious technique practice (chirps, tips, scribbles, tears, transforms) then relax by doing 16 bars of just totally messin about (this relaxes the mind and finger muscles and you may discover something you do naturally which you didnt know about before) then back to 16 bars serious practice. I would also start with an instrumental on one deck, scratch sounds on the other but as the instrumental neared the end I would take of the scratch record and line up a mix to a dif instrumental on the other deck. Once the mix is done i would put the scratch record back on the other deck, this way you practice both hands/all techniques, plus still practise mixing, plus your music flows better for your own sake. glad someone still flying the flag mate.

Ez all, i need a favour A mate of mine has a wedding function coming up for an Ozzy couple who live in the U.K. They've asked for a few classic oz tracks. Can you guys help us out? the only up to date ozzy stuff we could think of was pendulum, then avalanches, after that it goes inxs, men at work, acdc as far as we know!

dude, playing music to suit the flow you feel it should have is the reason we all do this ey? but anyway: 70 = 140 when your digital beat counter only counts every other beat. BPM counters can normally get steady pulses right to calc BPM but can regularly guess the wrong number of pulses/beats to the bar. same thing happens to d'n'b 90 = 180 and so if you wanna get jiggy hip hop at 90 can mix nice with d'n'b at 180 or r'n'b at 70 will mix with bassline or dubstep at 140. RE: playing tunes faster live. There is a long history of vinyl DJs pitching up just a little because the extra attack at the point of impact with the needle = extra volume. Also the "chipmunk" effect of pitching can impart energy on a dancefloor if done just right. Personally I find if i'm playing a tune then i pick the next tune and it's banging I often get excited and energised. This can make me beatmatch in a fashion that leaves the new tune ever so slightly faster than the old tune. Not so much that the mix will fail but just enough to require a manual pull back every now and then, maybe speeding up by an 8th of a beat over 16 bars. . If the time for a slight pull back corresponds to when I'm about to fade out and I'm busy with fx/faders then i just let it slip as I fade as the new tune is now fulling taking over. I think the extra speed comes across as energy in the mix and that this adds to the "analogue" feel that people think is missing in DJs who Sync. (IMOIMOIMHO) Anyway doing this every couple of mixes means my tempo slightly increases over time even when I'm using tunes that are the same speed.

I dont get this either. I learnt on vinyls then moved to CDJs. I added Traktor Scratch Pro because I loved how big but light my record box became. Thing is i still treat the laptop like a record box so i just dont look at it when I'm mixing, never have.

I used to call myself DJ Jim and then add the name of whatever club or act i was working for as surname eg: dj jim obvious dj jim cushion dj jim basics dj jim bluefoot but a typo saved me so now i'm just djim bluefoot and it's stuck for now.

that reminds me of a question I've always wondered: technics have massive magnets inside them right... How come that doesnt cause any issues with laptops placed directly on top of them, or does it?
-
I'd expect him to provide what he wanted.

I taught this kid some basic DJing years ago, I aint taking the credit for his work now though coz he's followed it up at music college. Posted this in electro too as he does both. i know he'll appreciate hook ups and comments. Latest tracks by SamMoss

Brand new, always roadcased, always packed properly (no cables flapping about in cases). I've replaced RCA DIY on each at least once, serviced professionally once. Set up at home and used daily but also gigged at least twice a week and toured with band for 4 summers. Then used with kids in teaching sessions at least 3 times a week for last 5 years. 12 Years old, no issues. but mine are 1210s, it must be the colour ey?

yes blood! not bad at all for a months worth of trying. good to see the dex the right way round and the stickers applied to the vinyl so you can clearly see whereabouts in the 360 degrees of rotation you are. Also nice to see your hand is trying to stay in about the same place on the vinyl (at 9 oclock if it were a clock). if i may offer a tip or two: 1) get that mixer fixed down, having it moving around aint helping you. maybe blu tack underneath or something wedging it from behind so it cant move around. 2) you're right handed yeah? This may sound weird but try the same scratches with the records swapped over so your left hand is on the scratch sample vinyl. You may find it hard at first but most DJs find that for transforms/chirps etc that use the cross fader a lot you want your best hand on the fader and your less strong hand on the deck. ...obviously you want to be a master and with practise and in time you will become truly ambidextrous but for now play to your strengths. best hand on the fader for fader techniques, best hand on the vinyl for babies. Or get a mixer with a hamster switch but that's all sorcery and witchcraft to me. of course feel free to tell me to f**k off if i aint needed bro.

mate, you just met a god and a guru and kept your head. plus rep.

we were just discussing behringer on another thread. Not a good idea for you mate. They're good if you live in europe and getting repairs done arent going to take for ever that numark 09 djaz linked to is cracking. or for something a little simpler the numark M4 is ok IMO.
