  2. Cheers Hoddi. You seem to be thinking pretty clearly about it all anyway. I would keep listening to as much as possible from as many as possible. And check all the youtube demos and reviews... knowledge is power eh?
  3. hey Pulse, yeah man i know, it's all good, each to their own. I just rem all the haters taking ages to get used to cdjs and I'm sure the same thing is going to happen to this new gen of controllers so I'm flying the flag. (BTW I spit on most previous controllers, it's only the latest two or three I rep) In my yard we still use vinyl. but for a newbie i think the most honest info from all is essential so i tried to balance tings. problem is i was mad hungover with a little blurry brain leftover from the weekend so I probably wrote more than is normal, even for me!
  4. bwahawhawhaw, acceptable racism at its best mate. anyway: i just like akai gear, always have.
  5. just pumping this back up coz i think some may have confused this kid with the other one i put in dubstep and electro. different lads but both posted on same day. this kid deserves propz

  9. hahah, i dont often get these but my agent just fwd this to me: Hi Mark, Just wanted to let you know how brilliant we thought Jim was on Saturday! Please pass on our thanks to him and let him know that everyone thought he was great. I hope he enjoyed it too, the band were on top form and we even ended up with a guest saxophonist. If we end up with any decent pics of him I'll forward them onto you. Best wishes, Rose and Mark. --------------------------------------- seriously, i didnt even bribe them to send that!

  11. 800s are baby sisters to 1000s, you dont get hot cues, you get auto loops instead. The reverse button is simpler and you only get one control to choose brake and start speed instead of seperate for each like on 1000s. Also no usb input or mp3 playback like the newer units which is why a lot of djs are selling theirs now to upgrade to the new gen. i believe the platter is slightly less responsive/ lower resolution too but that's only from my own intuition having played on both Basically safe budget versions for a beginner, unless you love hot cues. if theyre 2nd hand try and get a good go on them 1st, at least an hour or so, and take some of you're dodgiest scratched CDs that were burnt at home from your own playlists. These will test if the laser is worn out and will skip/produce a lot of error messages.
  12. fantastic. Fri was a jam session with my crew then sat was a paid wedding function from 6pm sat until midnight, str8 to studio for seperate afterparty playing breax, then dubstep until noon, then big tidy, then chill a bit b4 home. This convo will probably stop Hoodi seeing my post about controllers now. but that may save me a bit of rep too, i actually nearly felt angry writing that, must be the hangover! U know I love you guys.
  13. haha, ok thanks awesome, i've always needed an editor for my posts. P.s. massive hangover after massive weekend, my mates fitted a new system in their studio/venue. Didnt sleep until sunday night.
  14. whats "ftw" again?
  15. urrr i'm not going to make any friends here am i... Missed most of this thread but having got bored of you lot pressure selling CDJS to Hoddi I'm gonna throw the cat amongst the pigeons with a little history: Once there was only vinyl, no dj worth any rep would even consider using a cd player as there was no unit with reliable and acceptable touch sensitivity. Then pioneer released the cdj 1000s. Suddenly everyone reps CD players and no DJ worth their salt will recommend a midi controller because no unit has blah blah. but things have changed with the ddjt, ddjs and the numark ns6/ns7. I am a vinyl DJ first, I moved to CDJ because the unskippable format is easier to work with at busy parties. I then added traktor because taking the laptop lets me take thousands instead of just hundreds of songs to choose from. I am about to buy either the ddjt or numark NS6. These are the first 2 LIGHTWEIGHT,PORTABLE, CHEAP, RELIABLE, MIDI CONTROLLERS, with ACCEPTABLE VINYL EMULATION. We are at another cutting edge of technology now and so I will proudly recommend that any newbie go str8 to controller without trying carrying around a rig at twice the cost, and four times the weight. This lass gave her priorities in the first post and you lot have changed her mind. You remind me of the dinosaurs who wouldnt accept how good cdjs were, just because they hadnt tried them out. We are all agreed with one thing tho: DO NOT SYNC... it'll leave you and your whole party with a sinking feeling. Oh and by the way: the pioneer DDJT has no stand-alone mixer function, if the laptop crashes everything dies. It's also plastic build and more expensive. The NUmark NS6 will act as a stand alone mixer so if your laptop dies you can keep an ipod, mp3 player, phone, or whatever handy and plugged into one of the spare channels just in case the worst happens. Also the NS6 is steel. There a lot of pros and cons for each though, chk some youtube demos etc on both. Other poss controller options include denon mc6000 and traktor s4 but as neither of these have done their homework on the platters I would not recommend them to someone starting from scratch as you may get too tempted to press SYNC. Any other controller wont cut the mustard IMO, but neither will half the cd setup recommended in this thread, and they'll weigh more. Oh yeah, and about weight and cases and wheels.... it dont mean shit when you meet a staircase. and a coffin case isnt easiest to fit in many cars. ...and although I am rapidly getting neg reps for all this I would say again: if you want the best value, portable set up I would check this latest generation of controllers again.
  16. yeah wedding, after the meal and speeches... the couple were big music fans. They did the whole discussing playlists thing before the gig like proper customers like to. I thought most of what they chose was ok for a wedding and that they had put in enough pop to keep most happy, they also said i could take requests and freestyle a bit but that they'd keep an eye on me.... Then on the night loads of dolly birds kept asking for rihanna and the predictable shit. I put on something and the bride came str8 up saying "i didnt put this shit on my playlist" so in my best polite voice i say: "i know but you're mates were asking for it. what do you want me to do?" She says, "no worries, i'll tell 'em to fuck off myself. you stick to the playlist." happy gig, when the bride deals with the hecklers for you
  17. Thought some of you might be interested to see. A lot of these were requests but some are little mini set pieces I follow if someone asks for something, eg from abc for 7 tracks is a mini mix I can do with my eyes shut but it often gets a party started, from mustang sally for 4 tracks. from wanna be starting something for 8 tracks Family Affair Sly & The Family Stone The Ghetto Donny Hathaway Across 110th Street Gil scott heron Band of Gold Motown The Bottle Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson Son Of A Preacher Man Dusty Springfield Hold On, I'm Comin' Sam & Dave rescue me MOtown 0.0.7 (Shanty Town) Desmond Dekker & The Aces Monkey Man Toots & The Maytals Hard To Handle Otis Redding Clean Up Woman Higher and higher (your love) Jackie Wilson ABC Jim bluefoot tool mp3 I Want You Back Jim bluefoot tool mp3 Superstition Stevie Wonder crazy in love beyonce walk this way aerosmith Play the funky music white boy Average White Band I Don't Feel Like Dancin' (Radio Edit) Scissor Sisters mustang sally In The Midnight Hour Wilson Pickett Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours Jim bluefoot tool mp3 Soul Man Sam & Dave Get Up Offa That Thing James Brown Good Times (LP Version) Jim bluefoot tool mp3 Pull Up To The Bumper Grace Jones You Should Be Dancing Bee Gees One Nation Under A Groove Funkadelic move on up Curtis Mayfield Stuck in the Middle With You Stealers Wheel Womack & Womack - Teardrops Various Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' Michael wacko jacko Don't Stop The Music Rihanna billie jean Michael Jackson Keep On Dancing No Doubt Let's Dance David Bowie Once In a Lifetime (2003 Remaster) Talking Heads Thriller (Single Version) Michael Jackson Fools Gold The Stone Roses The Only One I Know Charlatans Weirdo Charlatans seven nation army white stripes Friday I'm In Love The Cure You Really Got Me The Kinks All Day And All Of The Night The Kinks Teenage Kicks Undertones ever fallen in love? 18. I know! they sounded really good though. totally suited the style of music and the scene. Good crowd too, I got to play stuff like the specials and toots and the maytalls, proper roots and ska.
  19. but check this out: this is 3 wind up gramaphone players which use 78rpm sheelac records. At this wedding these two freaks used this to do jazz and swing over the meal, total novelty act but good fun
  20. did a function last night and decided to take a photo, i'm no cameraman and only had my phone with so this'll have to do:
  21. Yeah I use CDJs to scratch, I'm no turntablist but all the tips, tears, transforms come across ok. it's cdj1000 MKIII that have the platter adjust. MK II dont but i think are better built without it. best thing about scratching on cdjs is the little clock technique display that shows exactly where you are on each rotation. SO many of the other "touch sensitive" jog wheels do not respect how important clock technique is to any tight cutting. Gandy: do you use traktor? I'm sure that shipped with a selection of dj tool sounds somewhere in it's library? Personally I just used ableton to record my fav scratch vinyl, then i edited out any i didnt like. My real favs I edited into short one off samples but i also left a few so they play through several. I put the whole selection of mini edits into a playlist on the favourites bar and then can drop a stab, beat or short vox comment whenever I want without searching them out or having to set cues.
  22. Jet and John Farnham both work here too, class. I've pointed the bloke that needs to know at this forum now so say hi to Mark everybody.
  23. perhaps "Lord Andrew Smythe" would suit sir?
  24. normally it dont matter what i wear, i hide behind the kit and keep my head down all night. but for weddings i do the whole waistcoat and tie suit thing coz they pay me enough.
  25. knew i could count on you lot, some great leads there. genre wise it's a wedding so i reckon pop. anything well known that people will sing-a-long to should fit the bill. they are expat aussie but have specifically asked for some music from "home" any more info welcome and thanks again.
