Oh, thought you were on vinyl. There are loads more simple places for a vinyl set up to result in this issue (Cupe, stop wiggling them styli)... I will only be able to take you through the first steps of this, if problem isnt easy to find you may have to go to a professional. OK, so the mixer has no balance/pan control so we can rule that out. It does have effects and shit so be sure they are all off in case there's some pan involved there. Leave the computer out of the equation for now. -------------------------------- To be absolutley sure the CD players are ok remove them from the mixer and plug them into any "line in" on a home hifi, play a disc, is it in stereo? Try this for each cd playa with each RCA cable you use to test both cables are ok too. If you can be sure it's the cable between player and mixer at fault you have a lucky cheap fix. Double check it, sometimes these problems are intermittent and all the pluggin/unplugging fixes them temporarily for one test but it wont stay that way. If it's def the CD playa then prob need a pro fix. If the cables and players always play in stereo whatever combination you wire them up in then your problem is more likely to be in your mixer or something to do with your rec software/usb. The mixer has internal amps which you can test by plugging it into the same "line in" on a home hifi and testing if both sides play stereo. If not be sure you test with a variety of rca cables as cables are the weakest link. If you can be sure that the mixer is at fault (because you dont get stereo playback from one side whichever cable or deck you put through it) then I would rec a pro fix. If you are getting stereo to your home hifi whichever way you plug in your dex and whichever cables you use then you know the problem is not with the dex, cables or mixer. This means it's something to do with your recorder or usb/software settings. This is unlikely as the recorder should be getting a stereo mix so would show a continuos fault regardless of which side was dodgy. If none of this solves problem let us know what software/recorder you use... But my knowledge stops here. ---------------------------------

LOL, close, but no cigar.

ez johnny: yeah man thats about it, but i'm known for talking/typing a lot so here goes: Tip1) I figure you're Pro mate so you prob know how to keep your sound levels suitable. I would still occasionnaly swap your cans for a pair of the ones the punters are using just to check they arent getting overloads. Unfortunatley you are at the mercy of the transmitter crew and fuck knows what they know about sound levels. Worth remembering a headphone speaker is going to rattle long before a P.A. speaker when you're pumping dubstep thru it so check every so often. Tip2) Again i'm assuming you're pro with this one: punters will not "feel" the bass like they do out of proper speakers. This is the biggest prob when doing silent discos. If you arent getting the reaction from your crowd that you normally do when a big bass drops this is probably why. Tip3) occasionally drop something that normally gets a reaction, something that suits your genre but is well known that would get a cheer or something, this should help you judge how many of the crowd are actually listening to you and how many are on the other channel. You may think you'll be able to tell by how they are dancing but thats not as easy as it sounds. Tip 4) First things last: the crews who run these things may not have time to check all the headphones they loan out are in full working order. make sure the ones you borrow are before you get started. there should be a vol knob on them so test at all levels. JTTH (just trying to help)

WTF is a bot? to me it's purt and curvy and looks great in a mini.

well annoying. IMO: if wiggling the stylus solves it I would buy a new stylus, or maybe cart, or maybe headshell. chk the wires in your headshell connect nice and tight too, unless it's a concorde. But Cupe IF YOU READ ONE THING: the more you wiggle shit the worse the problem will get. Better to source exactly where the problem is once and for all by eliminating elements/swapping shit to other deck/using the power of deduction - then replace the faulty element. If you wiggle lots you may cause more faults.

that's the wierdest comment i ever saw, and i write a lot of shit myself. wrong thread maybe mate?

where did you see one? anyway: i thought you didnt like being called "a homophobic little man" http://www.ausdjforums.com/modules.php? ... c&start=90 why perpetuate a myth big man?

haha, you wanna see it for real. I lolled for ages. didnt even put the phones on. TBH most people dont do much else but watch first time they see it, it's too funny. But everyone gets into it sooner or later.

this often implies one deck has one side of it's stereo out malfunctioning. Unless you just had the pan/balance all the way over to one side on one of the channels.

my 1st TOTD. ok so it aint the freshest egg in the basket but this is my current alarm clock tone.

sweet baby jeebus cupe, good work fella. I also always play nina simones "my baby just cares for me" as last tune at weddings etc. It's kind of a personal tradition. After I've finished, when the house lights have come up and while I'm packing up my lights etc I slip it on at half vol. It gives the olds and the youngs a last chance to swing in each others arms b4 they go home.

Like streetcleaner I have all my playlists in itunes: it's a great backup and a really versatile storage system coz you can have the same song in loads of playlists without needing actual multiple copies. Plus traktor syncs with it too. Before I had traktor I would get itunes to burn each entire playlist and then I'd print the playlist using itunes too and label cds and playlist printouts the same way street cleaner does i.e. funk 1,2,3, electro 1,2,3 etc. Most playlists need spreading across several CDs (itunes will do this) and so I cut the print out at relevant points and stick this to the sleeve each CD will go in. The number of songs on each CD depends how long they are, basically an audio CD is about an hour long so 20 songs at 3 min each or 7-8 songs if they are 12" vinyl style edits. You can set custom settings in itunes print so it shows exactly the info you have shown in the itunes browser columns, which for me is: song name, bpm, time, comments and artist. Finally I would burn a 2nd copy of all discs so that if i was playing a track and wanted a track from the same CD I could still play it from the spare. BTW: maiden, yes.

haha, this was pre camera-phones mate so i gotta stfu.

haha, maybe doesnt work everytime but i once put joey beltrams "energy flash" on, played it in full with all lights off, just a strobe pulsing very slow and out of time. when lights came back on a couple were going at it, totally buff, lying in middle of the dancefloor. No sign of any of their clothes at all. oh, and they didnt stop until they were done, lights or not.

ez, i never wanted a dj name so used dj jim then added the name of whatevr club or band i was working at as a surname. so i've been dj jim cushion. dj jim basics, dj jim bluefoot. then a typo told me i was djim bluefoot and it stuck. for you: Maybe Huzzy, or Fuzzy, depends how you play. DJ Hertz sounds ok and has frequency related innuendo?

ez. so there's me slowly importing my whole vinyl collection to digital. the way i do it is import vinyl to my studio powerbook, using ableton but not rendering. I just drag the whole .aiff file from my powerbook to external hardrive. then from external HD to dell laptop, into itunes, converting to mp3 so I have available at functions. I also still have high quality .aiff backed-up. Sometimes this works fine, sometimes without warning half way through playback of the mp3 it's as if i've just flicked to an un-tuned radio. total static. After testing I find each file with this problem is corrupt at the same point in time so I figure this corruption is on the file itself. any advice?

yeah, i tried an s4. even tho it's very good and the platters are responsive I found them too small and in the wrong place to be a truly all-round dj tool. Definitely aimed at the traktor cues/loops market. I wish it had been ok coz i was saving up for it and the money is burning a hole in my pocket while i wait for the ns6. For a beginner I would say they need to be able to try everything to find the direction they want to go in... For my style I need to be jack of all trades: mixing, cues, loops, scratching, cutting, fx... so a set up has to have the best of all worlds. The DDJT1 and NS6 are the first lightweight options for me. BTW the ns6 acts as stand alone mixer so if laptop crashes you can still have an external back up source playing.

spot on mate, I used to work in a shop selling dj gear. I hated it/couldnt live with myself so moved to working repairs/returns instead.
