^ haha. yeah cool feature, you must be in a booth then? probably ideal for ya karma.
-
yer, i like the x1 (my mate has one) but there's much more i want it to do. trigger finger is a steady arrangement of buttons and pots. especilly with a good personalised midi map. i reckon the midi fighter would look a bit amatuer to the average punter at functions too. great tool for in booths etc but not as many controls as the trigger finger.

it is an interesting idea. 2 thoughts... 1: all my music software manuals recommend I turn off/disable all wireless and network connections to ensure trouble free running of the software. I go to the device manager and physically disable the wireless device so there's is no way an incoming signal or update can interrupt anything. but i am on PC and i guess you'll have that side of thing sorted... 2: How would you advertise and distribute the app... If i was asked to download, log in, and learn how to use a new app when I had just arrived a at party I simply wouldnt. You may run the risk of only a few super nerdy types being bothered to use it. So you'd make all this effort just to get unrepresentable requests from nerds and you'd still have teeny boppers and drunkles coming to hassle you in person? Perhaps if you could distribute a simple handheld device for each table at a function? These could already be set up so people just browsed the playlist and requested as and when they wanted to without having to do anything other than make a choice and press a button?

have you ever used the traktro midi map function and the "modifiers" you can set in there? When choosing controllers I keep in mind that none of the available maps or functions will suit me so I pick the controller with the most comfortable layout of buttons for what I want to do. Then I use midi map to set which button does what myself.

is getting both just not an option because of funds? your laptop could handle both... poss akai mpd16 instead of trigger finger for a cheaper option?
-
wow... and flutter! it's all about the tune up ey. cheers man, will chk that thread l8r but if you get that response from all that gear on a p4 then it stands to reason I must be able to decrease my overall latency with a bit of tuning. thanx again +rep.
-
^yes mate, that is exactly what dubstep means to me. so spacey and yet so busy, top track mate.
-
wazza: good info mate. I'll run the dsp thing but if you have time can you explain a bit more on how to "tune for audio" pls? links would be fine mate.

A macarena style novelty record aimed at teenage boys? Not on my dancefloor, Not in my house, Not in my car, No. IMHO of course.

Ez I dont want to argue about it, but i do want you all to post your opinions as comments on my blog. http://djworkshops.wordpress.com/which- ... t-to-sync/ I aim to produce the definitive list of pros and cons regarding syncing or not. I hope this will help everyone be satisfied with their own opinion. I hope we can then point anyone who mentions this topic at the blog and thus avoid more threads resurfacing the issue. Perhaps after this we can leave this topic in the thread with "he who must not be named" as far as adjf is concerned. increase the peace.

hey wazza, yer man, i was just realising that by researching a bit further. the 1ms latency my mate gets is just what traktor shows not the total system latency. All i know is using his machine was much more like the response to scratching I used to get on vinyl than my DVS gets. I'm interested now I've felt the actual difference in response times, especially as I am about to swap to a midi controller and new devoted PC. I really want to understand this latency issue so I can choose the best response for vinyl emulation. you ever tried this dsp latency checker? does it give you a better idea of what total system latency is? or do you know a better way to discover total system latency?
-
My reactions are way slower than that but the difference between 1ms as shown on his mac and 5.5 ms on my pc was very noticeable to the ears. It's not about reaction time, it's about noticing delay between your action and the audios reaction. If you were mixing in a room that had a 10ms delay you would notice it. at 5ms I had to have it pointed out to recognise it as had assumed I was at fault. But maybe there is more to this than just the traktor readout? have you heard of this dsp latency checker tubby?
-
man, it's a little scary to think all that extra processor and ram and you get the same latency as me. I'm PC too of course, windows XP. Just seen a thread about a DSP latency checker at: http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml apparently it checks if anything else is causing latency which the traktor readout will not notice. anyone run it, anyone got any news? I may run it some day when I'm in audio mood but am on admin this avo.
-
cool, interesting stuff man, makes me wonder what sort of processor would be needed to get down to the 1ms my mate claims he gets from his mac. Or perhaps it is more of a windows/ Mac OS issue not a processor speed issue? which are you on eggs, PC or MAC?
-
I use a dell inspiron off the shelf pc: 1.8ghz processor, 2gb ram, I get 5.5ms latency with my NI8 using timecode cds in pioneer cdj1000s (you can tell in the preferecnes/options section of TSP). I always thought that was ok and just figured the sloppiness in my mixing was me being lazy, out of practise or drunk. My mate comes up on sat with a powermac, has 1ms latency and I was a fookin DMC world champion contender again, felt like begin young all over! As I say I've always been diggin what i got and I can modify my playing just like I modify if the room has a delay but now i know what i'm missing. what do you consider reasonable latency? what is your processor, ram and are you vinyl/timecode or what controller do you use?

id replace angry with passionate, i rarely have strong opinions on subjects, probably one of the most laid back guys my friends know, but when it comes to this subject its something i wont let go, having a strong musical background in piano and theory (5 years) and now djing. Will check it out where do you want the feed back in private msg or on the site? haha, cool, I feel that bruv, just know this issue matters to you and thats why i want your feedback. Comments on the blog prob easiest 4 us both? BTW: anyone else who feels strongly about it please feel free to post points of view, FYIs or IMOs. I'm gonna try collate all info on the topic once and for all. the blog is here: http://djworkshops.wordpress.com/which- ... t-to-sync/ cheers, peace edit:(that means you too eggs old bean, give me all the POV mate and we can post at the blog so save running the convo again?)
-
hey Gandy, do me a fava: chk my steps so far on the "to sync or not to sync" blog post I'm working on. Just a work in progress so far but feedback welcome. let me know wot issues i'm missing? http://djworkshops.wordpress.com/which- ... t-to-sync/ obviously angry feedback is ok too mate.
-
nearly read the whole ITM thread until awesomes advert for adjf came on. cheers blud
-
+rep IMO: the guys who do it this way will be the first to be 100% replaced by machines because they arent doing anything special. Ableton/similar DJs who use sync but add own flava may become a breed on their own but technical/skilled DJs using platters will still be around, even if they are using midi-controllers as platters. The sound of juggling/scratching etc cannot be emulated by machine anymore than the sound of an incredible shredding guitar solo. Even though it may come in and out of fashion it's here to stay IMO

cheers mate, do let us know how it goes. this kind of fault is normally a loose strand of copper wire or a dry solder joint but the problem is often intermittent so locking them down is a right royal pain in the arse.
-
Hey karma, hope i'm not too late just wire the cd outputs into the same sockets on the traktor cables that you would put the vinyl outputs. do everything else the same except of course there's no ground/earth wire. but be sure to switch to cd control on your ni8 instead of vinyl control. there is a button on the ni8 to do this but if you have software lock on you may need to open the ni8 control panel on your laptop instead. finally be sure you do not have the master tempo button lit on the cd players. if you want the keylock use the software one on traktor, NOT THE CD players. p.s. shitting my pants about this screen post you put in the whinge thread.. http://www.ausdjforums.com/modules.php? ... 3826#73826 My traktor is due an upgrade but i aint doing it if that is the result. also fab dj said he had issues. any news on this mate? worth a new thread?
-
me either! I guess he's either got a cheap cable to replace or pro fix required by a pioneer engineer. time will tell. hope he can make sense of my troubleshooting shit above. gave me a good idea for a blog page anyway.
-
so confused. cdj 350s dont have tonearms, even if they did he hasnt fixed the problem by switching to mono, just fixed the mix. He'll get the same problem next time he records, or he'll have to keep all his mixes in mono? pundaddy?
-
I thought he made that mix sound better by converting to mono but i dont think he found the reason for the fault yet... time will tell. peace
