  1. Ez, I'm gonna get a mac to run my new controller hardware with itch. I like to browse playlists a lot. I gig a lot (not bedroom) so dark rooms/flashing lights are standard. I have heard the backlit displays on mac mean things are generally easier to see than on pc. I'm used to a 15.6" dell. Will a 13.3" screen suit me or do i need to find the extra £500 to get a 15"? I dont need the extra processor that comes with the bigger screen, it's just a visibility issue. who's got what and how do they find it?
  2. ez. one of the reasons you may be finding it hard to mix live is that bcd 3000, it's one of the most unrepsonsive bits of dj gear available. have you ever tried cdjs?
  3. yep i've ordered most of my business stock from this company google and you can find their sale offer codes everywhere yep, internationally recognised. ez to design your own ting on their site, safe cheap reliable.
  4. dude, that's awesome, great result for a 1st gig. I totally do not understand the post on the other thread now! love it man, love you too. big big big big up!
  5. ^ aye, karma, aye. also: which day job is worse: a few crap parties a week at which you're getting more experience using your kit and dealing with dancefloors... or cooking chicken. Or whatever Djaz does.
  6. life is what you make it. some gigs are crap, unlucky. But you hold the power to choose your jobs in the same way you choose the parties you go to. get a rep so people recommend you to people who are also ok. Please dont sum the world (or even just an industry) up from a few experiences.
  7. go wazza, go wazza, go wazza see this thread: http://www.ausdjforums.com/modules.php? ... sc&start=0 but i'll still be hands on.... all that screen would be too trippy for me
  8. no, nononononononononononnonononononononono, no. did you have a bad night at your gig or something mate? you;ve suddenly gone all cynical and jaded.... maybe the punters were idiots but please please please dont decide the whole industry is as you've described it above... I mobile dj and get paid good dolla coz people know my rep and recommend me to mates etc. They could save money by using itunes but I read the crowd, i follow their music choices as pre-arranged with them, I add knowledgeable selections I have thought about through my experience and if i think mixing is going to add to the musical experience for them I mix too. a beatmatch here, a cut there. My mixing suits the music and helps the vibe on the dancefloor. You're only as good as your last gig and if you approach them like your description above people may as well use itunes. i weep sol, i weep. hope you get some of your get up and go back soon mate. where's the thread about last night anyway?
  9. Lots of you may not even know who this guy was. You may have heard of his new stuff with Jamie XX I guess a fair few of you know his history though. I saw him live once in the 1990s, he was already in his 70's. My mate knocked up this tribute to the great man. Tribute To Gil Scott Heron by Rory Hoy RIP
  10. ez karma, sorry no i dont mean dj controllers, i mean studio midi controllers... things like the mpd or trigger finger, no platters... just lots of knobs, buttons, faders and maybe keys? but also with audio... so you can control ableton with one external unit doing control and audio.
  11. ^ now thats good knowledge. wonder how many DJs think that I, IV and V are just parts of the star wars saga tho? + rep chev
  12. I'm with richo, hobberz, djaz and especially mr chris on this one. That formula may be the perfect mix to get your mix listened to by venues/promoters who need to see you can tow the line and sound like everyone else. It's important to catch the attention quickly when the person has a pile of mixes to go through. Personally I do alwyas start with an instrumental but thats coz I add an intro scratch to show I can do that too. Then sure I mix onto next track V quick becasue I want to keep the attention I've got. But thats just in demos, it's got nothing to do with reading a crowd. One size does not fit all.
  13. ok ok, lets analyse: there i was listening to my fav hip hop track by diamond d. He says his name with a very clear "d" and i think: "a,d,j,f, hey i could make a jingle. shout out here for cupe." so I'm wondering where i could find tracks that have clear audio pronunciations of a,j and f. and I remember my kids have an "abc" song which funnily enough fits to the tune of twinkle twinkle. I put the "abc" song and dimaond D's song next to each other in ableton and discover they arent unharmonic and so 5 mins later I've cut up the intro to the "abc" song, got the audio of the a,d,j,f I want and the outro to the diamond D song. honestly it took more time and thought to explain it than to do it. random is my middle name tho.
  14. yer random, that's me.
  15. advice: 1) leave the camera at home, you will have enough to sort without it and can always do the vid afterwards. 2) carry those cardboard boxes very carefully and support them underneath, a shit box breaks open at the bottom and all your eqpt turns to shit too. 3) be polite, even if the clients aren't. 4) KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON. good luck mate
  16. haha, it's just a little cut up to act as a shout out: it says: "a, d, j, f" then "holla at me" I'll embed it in vids etc to show 'props for the boss hog. Like a radio jingle. 5 mins of play time for me mate, it don't require thinking about.
  17. I never did a shout on that vid I posted so knocked one up last night for kids, you know.... Adjf shout out by djim
  18. in my experience sound techs generally have work habits like the cleaners. they get it all ready for you before you come, they miss the party, then they clean up all the mess after you've been. no wonder they're such a bunch of grumpy kents, the poor sods.
  19. i dont see what you lot are saying about the beat. There's a steady 4/4 pulse throughout that doesnt change tempo or modulate at all. Some of the sounds dont match the pulse and the pulse isnt always audible but this has clearly been quantised digitally. Set a metronome or a click going to it and I bet all syncs. Not that i'll be mixing it in any time soon.
  20. of course... it all makes sense now, there's a squat near us where all the anarchist/ new age traveller/ protest movement gang hang out and that's why I recognised this style too. It's ok for an after party after party if you know what I mean. Punk attitude, computer arrangement.
  21. Good skills once again wazza. I had got in the habit of putting my akai mpc through the midi in on the ni8 so cant believe I never thought of using the ozone that way when it is just a controller. Thing is sometimes i use the ozone as controller and soundcard with ableton in lessons i give and i guess I just got used to using it via usb (a midi will not transfer audio). TBH I dont often use the ozone with ableton and traktor tho, it's just one project I'm on where I'm going to be doing that. I ran all the optimisation stuff with everything going to be sure I had the best possible but at my gigs will only use traktor and NI8. also in a short while I hope to get the numark ns6 and a macbook so this DVS system will become my backup and used mainly just for lessons I give. It was still totally worthwhile getting my head round all this tho bro, and i know who to ask if anything crops up in the future so cheers again. One final q: do you know of any current midi controllers that also act as soundcards? I cant find any at my usual stores. it's as if the manufacturers have decided we need two boxes now! one to do sound and one for control... why cant we have it one box again like the ozone does?
  22. this fits under "2 hippos fooking" it's a sub genre of "seriously overloaded beats" It sounds like it was recorded by someone holding a phone next to a speaker at a rave. Seriously tho: I could never play it out but I quite liked it. Is it an edited mash up or a live mini mix?
  23. happy happy happy update: followed all the advice on the link from wazza, all drivers updated and PC fully optimised for audio. Ran dsp checker while running traktor via timecode through ni8 plus ableton via ni8 recording back to traktor and with an ancient m-audio ozone as ableton midi controller: max overall system latency: 567nanoseconds or 5.5ms. so this may seem to be the same as the original setting traktor was giving me but that is not overall system latency. Using the dsp checker showed me where I was getting CPU usage spikes and some of these were up to 20ms. So having sorted the offender (which was the ozone) my whole rig now runs (and feels) as good as my mates mac. I also got to shove it in the mac users face by explaining that the traktor latency read out is not overall system latency so he doesnt really know what latency he has! cheers again wazza, if i ever get to oz the first rounds on me. for now just another +rep
