  1. Theres two types of remixes, there a full blown remix where you are provided the raw samples, vocals, instruments, midi's or there other type where you do your best to cut bits out of a published track and mash them together. The latter is harder, but you could take that track and send it to your mates, or a torrent site. If someone handed me a half decent remix of a track on my label I would hand him the source files and tell him to go nuts. If the outcome was good he would find himself signed. I have also dealt with my artists having done their own remixes of other tracks by stealing samples etc. We simply contacted the label who released the track, they liked the remix and we had a choice to either let them release it, or pay a royaltee fee and give them a % of sales.
  2. Hey mate, look to your left then scroll down! or just hit up d4dirtyrecords.com
  3. I could go for hours on this subject... I can elaborate if you wish but the short story is unless you have a lot of time, money, patients and truck loads of talented people to remix and give you tracks I wouldn't bother. Shops like beatport make it hard for small labels to get in. They don't even accept new label, you need to find a distributor AND you need to make at least $500 US a quarter. Very hard to do when you make 75 cents a download. If your only goal is to just see your tracks in the shop then that is not a good reason to start a label. Unless you have the time and money for a decent marketing plan that is not just spamming your myspace friends then your just going to see your tracks fade into the background. Theres a lot to think about, and it is very expensive. But if your passionate about showing the world new tracks from you and your mates, and passionate about giving people chances, seeking new tracks and your willing to put a lot of time and money into it then go for it!
