YUP Im back!

Hey Guys, Been so long since I have been here I cant see if theres a place to share new tracks so Ill post it here for now. I am trying to get my ass back into gear and start producing again (and getting the label back on track). I put this together in a session this weekend and wanted to share it to get some feedback. To get warmed up I am doing a whole bunch of bootlegs of my favorite tracks that I always wanted to play live but never found a decent remix of... so heres two: http://soundcloud.com/d4dirtydigital/le ... irty-style http://soundcloud.com/d4dirtydigital/ky ... irtyreedit

send it to me and ill master it for you. I dont have expensive outboard gear but I can give it a very nice touch

Another trick is not boosting those high freqs for crispy top end, get a harmonic exciter like BBE sonic maximizer.

Good Post! EQ is most underused technique. I believe that if your track has been mixed and properly EQ'd most of time you wont need to much at the mastering stage.
-
While this theory is good for most types of music, you need to be wary of using it in EDM. If you intend on playing your mix in a club and you want it to sounds like it does in your studio you need to use stereo imaging subtly as club systems are MONO and too much reliance on stereo imaging can lead to unexpected results in your mix. By all means, use stereo imaging but before you finalise your mix make sure you play it on a mono system!

Good points to think about... Everything in the model will be via a tight contract so there will be no misunderstandings. This is not going to be easy, I want to challenge the guys that I accept into the program. I will drive them to be social, to be open and honest and to deliver original tracks and solid remixes. Having said that, your right that everyone needs their own space. I will not be asking them to be contactable and chatting at every given moment. A couple of forum posts every couple of days would be more then enough. Forum wise, yes there will be an internal D4D forum invisble to the public that will be used for the team to organise releases and remixes. Also for D4D Q&A and general production tips, VST Patches. Having said that, as part of their contracts will be an outward social clause asking them to chat reguarly in other forums, especially those who are partnered with D4D.

Hi Guys, As some of you have read, recent events have forced me to re-evaluate the state of my record label, and the scene and try to find a new model for signing artists, releasing tracks, promoting tracks and selling tracks. As part of this I am in the process of redesigning my labels site, and working on the new process and documenting how it will work. Here is a live demo of my new site (a LOT of things are sill in development, this site is a long way off going live), more importantly here is a document I am working on that will explain how my new system will work. This is a work in progress, I am looking for ideas, comments. In my view record labels as they are will soon be irrelevant, I believe a system like mine will not only ensure survival but will also drive the group to work together and evolve our sound collectively. http://d4dirtyrecords.com/V3/index.php? ... Don't forget to tell your friends, family, neighbors, ex girlfriends/boyfriends, weirdo's on the street to listen to your sets people!

BTW you got the right idea going on, soundcloud them and I'll make some notes
-
myspace is dead mate, soundcloud is where its at.. i am integrating it into my new site
-
Dang! sounds like a pretty good idea, my stuffs probably not up to scratch though jump on over to soundcloud and post some up, if its not up to scratch your in the right place to get some pointers mate

Am I too up myself if I think this could be stickied?

Luckily my label distributes to 100 or so other stores... but if your not on beatport your not really relevant... well at least thats the way it used to be. I will say one thing, kicking me off has motivated me to get my releases back on track. I am developing a new site and a new business model based around how I engage the artists. So for anyone reading this who thinks their tracks are solid enough for release, if you want to get signed to a label that works completely different to other labels and is creating a solid family of artists who will all work together please drop me a PM. I am going to shake things up, have an army of 20 new unheard artists who all have something to show and something to prove who will all churn out tracks and remixes and content for our stream. We will all promote each others releases and will be heard.

Just wanted to vent some due anger to those beatport tossers who decided to delete D4D records. The site is so full of shit releases that no one can find anything decent that is not in the top 100... how are smaller labels meant to reach your quota's? were getting bent over by beatport, by our distributors leaving our artists with nothing. I hear this week they deleted 1000 labels. I agree, yes get rid of the crap but how about you listen to the tracks before you remove the label?

Depends how you use the second compressor. If your using the second compressor to compress certain bandwidths for some subtle mastering then why not just move it in front of the side chain? SideChain's only purpose in life should be to sit there with its hand on the volume knob and every time it hears a sound from the input just turn the channels volume down. if you stick that before another compressor you would effect the speed and curve of the side chain.

Albino is really all i ever use. Love it for those hook n sling style basses

Compression; One of the most important techneques in Audio Production IMO, and also one of the least understood. Here is an article I wrote a while ago that a lot of other sites now link to, it is a decent start guide for anyone who wants to understand the basic of compression. Very useful for great sounding Bass, Mastering, Learning how to mix your tracks better. http://d4dirtyrecords.com/162-Tutorial- ... essor.html

sub bass is the bass you cant always hear, but you can feel. So you take your usual electro saw bass like every other track out there and you add some sub bass to it and all the sudden you will have a monster chest vibrating bass. To do this you simply need to use another oscillator to make a sine wave, and filter it to taste.
