You do get to a point where you can mix songs you've never heard of; usually helps when going b2b or when you have someone playing before you. I would keep focusing on getting your beatmatching tight, learning the phrasing/structures of songs and have a bit of fun with it. If you get too bogged down playing the same shit over and over again, it's no fun for anyone - make sure you enjoy what you're doing

I wouldnt give deadmau5 the time of day a few months back, but for a more laid back, kinda funky, sunday afternoon mix, i dont mind it .... especially because i find it quite easy to mix, being a newb an all Don't compromise what you like because of what other people think about the song/artist in question. I dropped a MOS house tunes from 6 years ago to a room full of tech heads at my last set. Why? Because I wanted to. That's the funnest part about DJ'ing, playing tunes that you love! Just plug your controller in to one of the channels on the mixer, and then just turn your mixer on and use the master on it.

^ Mitch has fixed 90% of my comp issues via this.
