Good chance for me to explain my main reason for chasing this DJ dream. As a teenager I would always go to parties that had music on an iPod. It wasn't bad music or anything but with a whole bunch of different people it was too easy for a song that most people like and 10 people hate to get skipped on an iPod. You'd spent 15 minutes in silence skipping a song till you found one you liked which would get halfway through and then get skipped anyway. I decided DJs get paid to control music, its one less thing a host has to stress about. That's my opinion

That DJ in that movie has to be one of my favourite characters in a movie. He just plays it spot on.

Can I add to a point eggs made about African Americans. They are behind a lot more Music genres then Hip Hop. Jungle strted with the 'rude boys' (a very African American term) as well as Jazz, Funk, Soul, Blues. I think Hip Hop/Party music would have been a better way of titling this thread

Business cards! Hand them out to mates, word of mouth is better then any advertising money can buy. Take em to your local deli/lunch bar. They usually are pretty cool for you to leave a pile on the counter

I did a party and a drink was split on the table my decks were sitting on. None of my equipment got wet but I killed the music, grabbed the Mic, stepped infront of my decks and said. "Im glad we're all having a good time and I appreciate the feedback but if you want to approach me, leave your drinks with a friend. If she gets wet the parties over and your wallets empty" Everyone kept their drinks off the table from that point on and plenty of fucks were given that night.

I went out and purchased a few compilation albums (101 80's Hits, 101 90's Hits, 101 00's Hits etc.) Best investment you can make as a mobile DJ. If they said they don't know/mind "as long as its good" (Which I've had a couple times) you've got, literally, hundreds of songs that will be known by 80% of the party. Worst case scenario, let them look at your playlistism and let them pick. You're not doing clubs yet so requests are sort of mandatory

So, I thought I'd update considering it's been a while. I'm still running the same system except I've got A Macbook and some Pioneer HDJ 500's. I've done a few gigs & have finally gotten some business cards made up. My plans have now been more residency focused, gonna record a mix sometime this week for a mixtape
