That was what I was going to suggest, isn't everyone's classification of sub-genre's somewhat different. If it doesn't blatantly tell you when you d/l it I think its fair to interpret it however you see fit
-
YES! YES IT IS! This was dope man!
-
Shazam maybe? Would that work? Does Shazam even give genres?
-
I think I want to invest in some CDJ's eventually as it seems it's industry standard now days unless you're at a pub (and even then, they seem to be converting). As for this gig, the promoter got the date wrong and, as I'm already booked, I can't do this gig anymore, but hey, it means I'm in demand right

My missus is away tonight, so, while I'm cooking my pot of pumpkin soup, I plan on re-organizing all of my music (50,000+ tracks from 60's-Now with a bunch of different sub genre's). Safe to say it's going to be a long night, but I think if I maintain it (like I should have from day dot) it'll be easier to read/find tracks when mixing on the fly and planning playlists

I roll with Behringer's. Have for a while, and I've never had anyone complain that they don't pump. I think if you use your mixer well you can get a really hard sound where the high's aren't TOO sharp but its not a distorted bass. Price is good, but if you can afford more, spend more on something else. Just stay away from the Eurolive stuff and you'll be sweet

If I set up my gear in time for this. I will be entering Dubstep is my shit! EDIT: This may very well be my first ADJF Monthly Mix

So I've been asked to spin at a local pub, but they're rolling with CDJs (Pioneer CDJ-850's). Now as a Traktor Scratch Vinyl DJ, I am wondering how difficult it will be for me to pick these up with zero experience. I do have the option of bringing my decks if I chose, but if its easy enough to rock up and mix with these CDJ's (still using Traktor) I will. Its not like a really difficult gig, its just some background music really, top 40, commercial, rnb & hip hop. All that radio stuff, so I don't need to make meticulous transitions. Opinions?

The DJ Time Machine (What would you do differently?)
RichoKidd replied to OxyKon's topic in DJ Headquarters
For me, I'd probably buy a better set up from the get go. I spent $600 on my first set up. I wish I had saved a shelled out for some Techs. I also wish I got into it earlier. Learned more before every man and his dog became DJ's. -
That's a good question. It's hard to describe as its pretty diverse, but I think I have the larrikin style. I put a bit of humor in most of my stuff, but mainly I'm trying to send a message.

^^ I used to do it, I think its a bit corny now. Stick to making da music! -
The first real gig I did, I had my housemates with me, cause it was a friend of theirs/ours Now they'd watched me DJ and I taught them the basics, that way I could leave the desk if I needed/wanted to. It was a pretty casual gig. But at one point in the night when I returned from the back shed followed by a big cloud of smoke, my mate was standing behind the decks, looking at me, horrified, holding a snap traktor timecode vinyl. At this point, I didn't care. Mixed internally all night and still got paid. I've also had power shut off cause drunk people like to trip And I've been electrocuted by cheap knock off Chinese lights

I spun at bar FourFiveNine (Rousemount's smaller side bar) on Wednesday night, we reached Cap and had to turn people away. Thats never happened at a weeknight gig before!

Word bro! I'll be there for sure! Optamus is a king and has always supported what I do, same with Shakes & Daz. Emjay is one of my favourite MC's. Will be one of those gigs to remember

I was not, I actually think I was DJing that night, and I hadn't been very active on ADJF for a while before hand, but I AM BACK! -
Western Australia's most successful hiphop collective are embarking on the ‘Crowdpleasers’ Tour. Syllabolix or SBX as there known to fans have built an empire around their hardwork, talent and unquestionable "dopeness with 2 songs voted in “Western Australia’s top 50 songs of all time”. The elite squad includes Mr Grevis, Bitter Belief, Mortar, Rob Shaker, Downsyde, Layla, Drapht and many more. Racking up huge record sales and numerous shows these guys rock a live show like no one else and they are ‘back for more’ through August and September.. Combining their large pool of talent on stage the ‘Crowdpleasers’ set is a conceptual live show with live sampling, djaying and rapping combined with a plethora of well-known songs. Hendrix, Eurythmics, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley and many more are remixed and mashed up into ‘Westcoast Bangers’ live on stage and is a must see show for any fan of good quality home grown talent. Whaddup! Some of you might remember me, some of you may not. Anyway, here's the story. I'm currently mid way through the process of writing my debut EP and have hit a massive spell of writers block, its annoying AF and the best way to fix it, is to write to something completely out of my comfort zone, or just write to something I haven't If any producers have anything they're looking to offload for me to rippdy-rap to. Drop some links! Pce!

What do you do just before your set?
RichoKidd replied to Pending's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
Ensure both turntables are set at 33rpm and NOT 45. There is a story behind this.
