    Hello

    Welcome
  2. Obviously being a hip hop guy, I think lyrics are one of the most important aspects of the song. Then if you look at my EDM side, lyrics can be important but won't necessarily make or break a song
  3. Hey guys, I filled this out last night. When it came to "pages you visit regularly" I added ADJF in the "Other" section. It would be good to get all the Australian DJ's involved in this, plus possible prizes! You can fill out the survey HERE
  4. Playing this AGAIN today its that good, and because its morning I'll be able to do the whole 4 hours!
  5. I run about 4 pages all year round (plus a few others that only require small attention when something big happens in regards to their service etc.), so I'm all over scheduling posts, relevant articles and things of that nature. I'd be interested in helping out where I can. I've got constant access to a computer at work, which is where I do most of my posting from. Let me know what you think!
  6. Question. Is "Trap" considered "Bounce"? Sounds similar to me....
  7. Cheeky git!
  8. Tonight I decided, being the missus was out with the girls, I'd take the opportunity to record a mix for the first time on my S4. Considering I've stepped out of my 'hip hop comfort zone' here, I am relatively happy with the results. I know there are a few sloppy transitions, and certain levels needed adjusting, but overall, I think, without really learning everything there is about the S4 (and Traktor Scratch Pro, being that I've come from Duo), I know there is lessons learnt, and I guess thats the main thing! Would love to hear some feedback from you guys. What worked well? What needs improvement? What did you think of the track selection? Anything else you think would help me in my quest to greatness* https://soundcloud.com/richokidd/richokidd-midnight-snack-I am a fagget-mix *Note: I am aware I occasionally over use effects, but its a habit I picked up when teaching myself to DJ.
  9. Yes, double post, no IDGAF! Finally got a chance to use this bad boy in a mobile environment last night. It's an awesome piece of machinery, well built, has a real crisp and clear sound (no crackle or heavy bass). My only "complaint" is that I prefer the filter on my Pioneer DMJ250 as it doesn't cut the music as much, but other then that, I'm looking forward to learning much more about the S4!
  10. That's not really the point You don't buy a plastic guitar from toys-r-us if you want to play guitar when you're bored, you at least get a decent one The worst situation is you actually enjoy DJing and want to upgrade your gear and finally get around to buying something decent (after having spent $500 on a piece of shit) and end up spending way more than if you just held out and bought something good in the first place It's your call, but everyone here answering has either done what I just said or knew better (or are in the process of saving up again to upgrade whatever they've currently outgrown) I'll agree with Cupe here, as I've upgraded mixer's twice, and recently purchased a controller too. If you enjoy DJing, you'll end up like most of us, spending big bucks collecting gear that you like. You can never have enough gear though, there is nothing wrong with starting small and upgrading, and there is nothing wrong with starting big and adding onto that set up. Go into a place like Store DJ or Kosmic or equivilant stores and have a play, find what you're comfortable with, and if you buy everything in one go (CDJ's, Mixer, Monitors, Stands, ETC.) you'll usually cop a decent discount. Get to know the guys in the stores and ask questions do, don't buy on your first walk in!
  11. I guess im not the only one then!
  12. One of my biggest downfalls as a DJ, and I'm finding a lot of others deal with this "problem", is my cable organisation. The way my set up is at home, pushed up against a wall so all cables are hidden, but still a mess behind the mixer. When I walk into a venue, its messy and ugly, and if I do any mobile work I hate how my cords are just f**king everywhere. So, show me how you hide your cords, what way you keep them all neat and tidy as so they aren't seen by the patrons/clients.
  13. Firstly, if this is in the wrong thread, please move to correct! Some of you may have heard, I'm pretty close to picking up my very first residency at my local pub, the only thing they are awaiting is a sold hour long mix of commercial/dance tunes, that I will be doing this weekend. My question is this; In a situation like this, would you recommend Mastering your mix? What would you recommend to make your mix PUMP that little bit extra to grab their attention? I should let you know, I'll be recording directly into my Macbook from Traktor Scratch. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  14. As the year ends we had an idea, a night for ALL the members of the Perth Hip Hop scene.. Emcees, Producers, DJ's, B'boys n girls, Artists, Designers, Promoters, Photographers, Bloggers... A night to come together, mix n party.. The scene is huge and diverse now a days, which is so dope. But it has made it hard for different folks of different strokes within it to meet n converse.. THATS why this is happening.. So come, chill, mix with crew you know and meet those you don't. Its gonna be a dope night, I hope all get amongst... Will be DJ's takin care of business through the evening... Limited Pre Sale Tickets so get in quick. Myself, DJ Messy, BaceKadet & Rob Shaker will be handling business behind the decks! Oxy! THIS IS NOT A WEEKNIGHT SO IF YOU ARE NOT THERE I WILL FRENZAL RHOMB PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE!
  15. Thanks guys, just my DJ paranoia playing up. Went off pretty much without a hitch!
  16. As you guys know, I just picked up my Traktor Kontrol S4, and it came with Traktor Scratch Pro. I had always used Traktor Scratch Duo as I was usually to broke or lazy to upgrade to Pro. Now that I have, I am worried that my Audio 6, which came with Duo, isn't compatible with Scratch. I'm assuming it won't make a difference as it should be compatible throughout all versions of Traktor, but I have a gig tonight, and I'm bringing my Audio 6. I just want to make sure it all will run smoothly! Thanks in advance!
  17. In the ways of dubstep it actually is basically the same tempo, because 140 divided by half is 70, just usually means there isn't as much drum action involved Pretty much my point! Sometimes its easier to go from 140 to 70 or vice versa!
  18. Good note. Don't be afraid of beat matching a Dubstep tune at 70bpm, with a tune at 140bpm. They may be completely different tempos, but it can work!
  19. REVIVAL OF DEAD THREAD! WOO! I feel, now in 2015, we should update this to include things like all-in-one controllers, its pretty common we see young dudes starting a topic like "NEWB. WHAT GEAR SHOULD I BUY!?" I think, for beginners, being that most, if not all DJing is done digitally now days, a budget controller to learn on is the best suggestion! Here's a link to an awesome article from DJTT.
  20. When I purchase beats, I purchase full rights. So I own the entire production, lyrics, vocals and instrumental. If I release it as a single and it gets played on the radio, I am entitled to royalties yes? What about internet radio?
  21. Sweet. So as a rapper its something I should have. Say I get played on Triple J Unearthed, I'd receive royalties? As A DJ, unless you are performing your own productions, its pointless?
  22. Hey guys, Hopefully this is the right section for this, if not, please move to correct area. I have a question for those who consistently perform live. How many of you are members of APRA AMCOS? The reason I ask is, I've been DJing for like 7 years now, and I am a member of APRA but I've never really 'used' it. I figure, now I have the chance at a residency, I should probably go legit. Basically, I am trying to understand what exactly this government service will do to look after me? Why am I even a member of APRA? If someone can explain it to me, in words I understand, that would be great.
  23. I'll hopefully be involved in some more weekend gigs coming up, pretty much just secured a residency at my local The Brook for Friday nights. Gonna do different themed nights; i.e hip hop, RnB, trap etc. Should come check it out once I start
  24. Early xmas present to myself. Hoping to record a mix with it this week!
  25. It was common practice back in the early 90's for hip hop nights to be held at the old Hyde Park Hotel (back when it was good!). These nights were what spawned on Syllabolix and basically created the West Australian Hip Hop scene (shout outs to DJ Armee for putting on the old RnB/Hip Hop nights at The Hydey at the age of 17 mind you). Its pretty much tradition at this point, it gives young guys who can't always get weekend supporting slots, a chance to perform and EARN those supporting slots, also gives shine to the DJ's that usually get forgotten about or under appreciated. As both a rapper and a DJ, I think these nights are a great concept, breaks the week up nicely, and were all usually in bed before midnight!
