Hey mayn, what's the sound like out of these things?

Ha! Classic call. I'm not that narcissistic though...

Getting an iPad 2 through work. If it means I can take all my uni texts AND personal library with me, and not break my back or need a moving van, it's gold - My personal library is fucken huge, and studying digital forensics... well, a couple of moving vans is required!

My next laptop will be a Mac - I plan on developing for iPad/phone and using Traktor on it. Apart from that, this is a windows home!

Never mind, found somthing that does it for you: Traktor Bible Tutorial #1 Has a handy utility for changing the mapping of various options in TSI files.

Hey Guys, Bit of a noob question here, so feel free to tell me to rtfm or search the forums (I have, but haven't found this little tidbit)... I've got the trial of Traktor 2 (I'm getting sick and tired of constantly copying music to two different HDD's, confirming ID3 tags have copied across, playlist editing etc) and am looking at maybe moving to Traktor with the two Denon decks as controllers outputing through the Denon mixer. I've managed to get most things working in Traktor, although I appear to loose the ability to scratch/pitch shift with the platter on the HS5500. Not an issue, I can track down the assignment codes for it later (hopefully...). My main issue is that to get both decks working, I've had to set the S1200 onto MIDI Channel 3 (The HS5500 uses Ch1 AND Ch2). This is an issue in the assignment table, as all the TSI files I find for the S1200 assume the deck is on either Ch1 or Ch2. I know how to go through and update the Assignment Table in Traktor, that's how I confirmed I could get both decks working. What I don't want to have to do is set each option manually to Ch3. And then repeat for the second HS5500 deck (the HS5500 is a two-deck-in-one controller). Is there a way to do a mass update from Ch1 to Ch3 in Traktor (or the TSI file)? Kind of like a "Search and replace" in MS Word. Cheers

What's it like? I'd loved to have had the money for this. I got the baby of the bunch - the X120. Nice and simple but everytime I see this I just start drooling. Edit: Never mind, just read your last post. I'll eagerly await your review.

Main implication on getting OSX to run on non-crApple hardware is in the type of BIOS (or UEFI, in OSX case) that it supports. You need to find a MOBO with UEFI. If you use a mobo with BIOS, it's a bit trickier to install OSX. BIOS/UEFI sits between the OS and the hardware and basically passes messages between the two. BIOS has been around since the dawn on time and has recently been replaced by UEFI that is more expandable. OSX by default requires UEFI whereas Windows will run on anything. As for why you'd spend more money on a Mac, think of Windows as a $2 hooker and OSX as a $1,000 /hr escort - they'll both do the same thing, but the escort will do a better, classier job of it and she'll be less likely to give you an infection in the process or crash out on you halfway through a "gig"

DB4 - Anybody else thinking Aston Martin might have had something to do with this? Would certainly explain the price.

You really want uncompressed, so that means WAV format. Beatport does sell them but you pay extra Dance Music Hub I'm not sure about, but they don't have a great selection of hardcore/hardstyle music - at least the last time I looked (I mix hard dance as well...)

Cheers!

With MP3's, they will all sound pretty much the same. What you will be missing is, primarily, the very low level bass that you 'feel' more than hear you also lose the very high frequencies). This is the bass that makes your whole body vibrate. Compressed audio formats remove these frequencies to save on space as you can't hear them. But, play the same track compressed and uncompressed in a big-assed club system and you will feel the difference. This could make the difference between a great set and an average set.

HTC Legend. An older Android phone but it's fricken awesome. Love Android. Not as easy as iOS but more tweakable.

Thanks mayn! Headphones aren't that exciting, they're all very similar. But if I can help another noob-DJ like myself, then it's all worth it.

Just got a new set of cans - Denon DN-HP500. These are the smaller of the 2 Denon offerings on StoreDJ at the moment, the others being the DN-HP700. The main difference, apart from price, is the maximum input power. These are both supra-aural headphones which means they don't fully enclose the ear - they sit on the outside. My personal preference is for circum-aural headphones which fully enclose the ear. I find them generally more comfortable and better at blocking out outside noise. I decided to give these a go as my current headphones are starting to wear out. My current headphones are a sweet set of Sony's designed primarily for home theatre listening. They have wicked bass and good mid range, plus slightly larger drivers (I think...). The Denons have a good solid feel to them, unlike so many headphones. One thing I liked with these is the 1/4" adaptor screws onto the 1/8" plug. This is great - I don't know how many times I've gone to pull the headphones out and not grabbed the adaptor properly and left it in the equipment. Not such a big deal when you're at home on your own equipment, but I'ev left them at mates places before - not fun when you want to get home and mix! What I was surprised with is how nice these feel when wearing them. I've tried various supra-aural headphones in the past and never liked them. But these just... feel right. And my ears don't get burning hot after wearing them for an hour or so. The padding is just right and manages to do a fairly good job at blocking outside noise - another issue I've had in the past with these types of headphones. What about sound? Well they are easily the match of the Sony headphones. Bass is good but for me, mid range is where the Denons shine. Crisp and clear - for a $140 pair of headphones I am damn impressed. Kind of hard to get excited about a pair of headphones, but I was surprised by the build and sound from these. Anyway, time to step off my fanboi-box and get back to what's important - mixing. https://www.storedj.com.au/products/DEN-DNHP500

I can highly recommend Denon gear (check the sig). I'm not a fanboi - if I had the money, I'd buy Pioneer, it just so happens that Denon have great gear at much better prices than Pioneer. Of course, if you're planning on going club level, you'll want to stick with Pioneer gear. If you're not going that far and sticking to parties, home production etc check out the Denon stuff. They also act as digital controllers in Traktor and Serato. Either way, best of luck!

As a total nerd, I'm all over SSD. I'd happily pay the extra money for the benefits of SSD... If I wasn't spending all my spare dough on DJ gear and music.

Sweet. Wish I was handy enough to build something like this.

Try www.cases.com.au. Not sure of prices, but I was recommended this website by someone in my uni course who used to work in audio setups.

Send me an email at djadumbration@gmail.com and I'll reply with the template attached. It'll work for both HS5500 and 3700 series Denon decks.

I actually have a Word template that you can use to put your own images and text on. If anybody wants it, PM me and I'll send it to you.

I'd have say I also found this very laidback - almost chillout for me. Love the bass - would love to hear this in a club. Love the breakbeat aruond 1 minute. Gonna be awesome.

Not sure it works with the transition around 1:00 - totally different sounds. A bit jarring for me. Interesting though how you've brought it back at the end. Nice. Great bassline througout. Synth at 2:50 - classic. And again and around 3:10. Combined they sound awesome. I can't pick the bloody melody though - it sounds familiar somehow.
